Say Hello to the New Lancia Delta

Make the grille go all the way across on the "short" one there... You'll have a Lincoln instead.

It's "better" but then again I could say I've seen some thing that looks just like it before.

lol i think i know who that is

I think with those twin grilles, the bonnet line and the high mounted badge it's got a strong hint of Karmann Ghia:

It's a nice edit of the original Lancia, but doesn't scream "Lancia" to me.

Problem solved. Volkswagen, do that. Lancia, come up with something else

Surprise surprise. Another badly restyled, presumably higher priced Fiat. The Musa and the Ypsilon come to mind...

The Karmann Ghia is a lot less cluttered than that car, or at least gives the impression. Otherwise, it should be correct, if only for the round headlights.

This is how the new Delta could have looked, if Fiat were to revive the old styling of the Integrale:

No, that would be an utter FAIL. The Delta should be boxy like the original, and that rendering has too many angles that it just looks distorted. But it definitely would look better than the one at the first page...... :indiff: You know, some cars aren't meant to be revived......

Lancia is one company in desperate need of retro styling.

I like this a lot better than the other pictures posted. In that picture though, the car looks a bit on the tall side. It is a much better start than the other car's styling.

on the Render atricle: They're selling themselves a bit short with a 1.8 DIT making 230HP. They need a 2.0T making at LEAST 280. 300's a better number.

So, while many have gone on the record as saying they hate retro styling, in this case it would be all right to do it on a car that was last sold like that only 14 years ago? And was pretty dated then? I don't get it. Remember, this was the Delta:
250px-Lancia_delta.jpg

A boring, 70s looking econocar. Only a small minority were the flared, bespoilered pieces of crazy. Its essentially like wishing the next Golf looks exactly like the first Golf just because of how the original GTi looked.

I never hated retro styling, and I certainly think that the old Delta, while not exactly being a pretty car, has some character to it. At least it has loads more than the euroboxes of today. Also, I don't see a limit as to how old a car has to be to get a restyled successor.

Blimey, bunch of picky sods here :P

That render further up the page looks really good I think, it's maybe a little too much of a pastiche on the original and I do think that the new Delta should be modern and probably quite angular, but not necessarily the same. The comment on the Golf GTI above is a case in point. Some of the other renders on that website look great. Incidentally, on the Italian language page of that site I found this previous render too - it shares a similar back end to the production car (but as it's a concept-style it looks more cohesive) but it's much more agressive:

I'm not sure if anyone else here is aware also, but this Delta isn't replacing the original, there has actually been a model in between the one which became the Integrale, and this new one. The phase 2:

Not exactly a looker either... properly Eurobland that one was, didn't have the appeal of the original nor the smooth Noughties styling of the new Bravo based one. They did however make a performance, turbocharged, 3 door variant of the car in the late 90s, the HPE HF Turbo. Being only FWD it wasn't quite an Integrale, but they have a bit of an underground following. I've only ever seen them for sale in the UK twice (rare import), both in the same month in Auto Italia magazine:

This HPE version I do think looks quite good, definitely got some character.

I don't think retro styling would have been the right idea, but it would have been better than this Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Anyone else think the back end looks like the Murano?

Yeah, when I saw it it did instantly remind me of the murano... I swear I have also seen that rear light design on some luxury concept car, cant remember which brand..

I think they really have messed this up, its almost what Subaru have done with the Impreza... they have killed its rally soul and turned it into a boring neutral 'everybody' car and its such a pity that it has no resemblance to the original..

When I saw the photos of it in autocar it was serious face palm..

What the redesign harkens to is the sharper 1980s Lancia Delta, and that picture is the base model; the Colleziones, Integrales and Evoluziones were more common than expected. The quad headlights, for one, did wonders for the car, making it look decidedly more continental (read: more like a BMW).
