Ok Jeff, you are the organizer of the event and last word is obviously yours. And let me state clear that I do understand and accept as logical your arguments.

Manny, I wouldn't state that the driving was more wreckless than usual. I feel it's just the combination of track and different paces. I felt the same during yesterday's first lap at VIR. Alan was all lap on my tail by '20 tenths and was clearly holding it off to avoid accidents. Thing is that under the braking for turn 1, my braking point is a little bit later and stronger than Alan's (who apparently slows down earlier) - the contact was inevitable! In my mind I realized that due to the tracks own characteristics this is likely to occur oftenly during the races - and this was my point, trying to find a way to minimize it.

I am considering to start with an online petition to prevent Jeff from ever using this "thing" he believes its a track again, in future events!

I think it's a great circuit. SCC does not model it properly; the SCC physics make it seem more bumpy and risky than what it appears like in real (I've only seen videos, but that's enough). It's the great thing about all of these North American road courses; they're still pure, untouched. Whereas on more modern international circuits, it's all about minimum track width, mandatory tarmac run-off, a twisty infield complex for the benefit of a grandstand full of Mercedes employees or something.

A clean overtaking in this track is as likely as someone winning the lottery twice in the same week without actually buying any tickets.

Overtaking is more difficult than on a lot of circuits. But into turn-1 is a big opportunity. I also see into turn-7 as a chance (after coming out of the Snake). But anyway, that's motorsport - it's not supposed to be easy to overtake. It should be a challenge.

Alan hit me in the back twice. Coming round turn 2, Arvore was pushing me to the inside of the corner...Alan also flyed through causing again the car to get unbalanced...

Don't rush in for what on any other track might look like a clean pass shot...

The first thing I have to say, and it's also directed to Manny and Arvore and Kemp, is that the lag issues did make it very difficult for me in our races yesterday. So many times when I'd get close, and preparing some kind of move, the car in front would suddenly shift position. For example, coming out of the final corner behind Kemp, I got a good run and into the slipstream. Then I had to brake in the middle of the straight because his car suddenly shifted much closer to me.

I apologise for smashing into you Bullie at turn-1. A lot of the reason was just unfamiliarity with when and how much everyone else brakes. Just need more proper race practice.

PS - I wonder if qualifying shouldn't be ignored on this track for both races, and just use the personal's fastest laptimes for setting the grid - faster guys in front, slower in the back.

I think the plan is fine the way it is. Forget about me smashing into you last night; I'm extremely confident that I can avoid contact when it comes to the event (and to be honest, I think I always have done in previous events).

Overall, I think everyone just needs race practice, practicing competitive races with a few other cars giving it the max.

I really like VIR. There are a couple of good passing opportunities - most obviously the long straight (it would be nice to have the "full" version of VIR which has a really long back straight). A good strategy for passing remains keeping close to the car in front through the last turn & then drafting past on the straight.

The only problem comes from having to make your way through a lot of traffic. I really suggest the faster drivers focus on keeping it on the track during the qualifying lap (I'm looking at you new-soul ;)) so that they don't end up at the back of the grid. I really don't see that gaining a position or two from a super-fast qualifying makes that much difference in a 20 lap race... but starting from the back upsets the "natural order of things". :)

:)

i dont know, have no time to race, before the event,
...that wold rise the ??% of me going off in the 1st lap :)

:dunce: and will charge my contoler before the event, 💡 so that it stays connected:sly:

The apologies weren't needed because I'd never held them against you or any other of the guys we raced yesterday. I do fear that somehow my intentions on these last few threads is being misunderstood...

No Sérgio I don't think they were.At this point we race each other for so long that I don't think neither of us thinks any other driver will harm us on purpose and incidents happen...and as annoying they might been I've learned to quickly get over them and focus on the next race:)
I think that everyone agrees with your point of VIR not being a very easy track to overtake...but I think in the end this race will be very much like the others before...enjoyable if disconnections don't occur:)

No, I think I understood your point, which said a different way, comes down to this... based on the leaderboard, the lap time difference at VIR from the fastest of us, to the slowest of us is over six seconds/lap. On a track with limited places to execute a clean pass you're concerned about the races becoming a mess.

It's a valid concern as I said, but I didn't want you to take last night's races as an example of how this weekend's races would be. As I said I wasn't being as cautious as I am during events. And based on what I've seen in the events so far, I think people will generally be able to be patient and keep the race as clean as it's possible for any online race to be.

Good to see you already got the game Lefty:tup:
You'll have to get used to it,physics are much more demanding than Shift,so pratice a little offline, buy the Ferrari 348 Challenge-one of the cheapiest-and join us in the nights for some racing:)

I don't have the game yet, I only found it online and have orderd it from Britten. I'm thinking probibly a wk. The down time is allowing me to paint and photo my racing rig that I designed to hold my stearing wheel and foot peddles.

Hi everyone!

Can I join your series? I've just get my SCC, and I need to practice with it before I could make races, but I'm looking for an SCC League, Series or something since Shift League is stopped.
It would be great to practice online with somebody from here during the weekend!

Hi Mohamu,

See here: :sly:

I will first open a PSN Text Chat room under my PSN ID: jjaisli approximately 5~10 minutes before the event starts and will first send invites to those on my buddy list who are on-line and have expressed an interest in joining this series. You must first join the text chat to take part in the race. If anybody new would like to join, provided there's space in the lobby (16 players or less), you're more than welcome. Just send me a PSN message and I'll send you an invite in return.

I don't have a 'sign-up' sheet for these events but I do give priority to those who have already taken part. However, we have not had a full 16 plaer lobby once in the first 3 events and if there's room, you're welcome to join in.

However, if you've just received the game, with only a few days to practice, you might want to try and join in for the next round instead. VIR is probably the most technical track in the game and SCC's handling is a bit...'different' compared to other games and you may need a bit more time to feel comfortable. Get yourself to the point where you can do consistent laps. If you feel you're ready, make sure you read the rules in the original post carefully and come knocking.

Thank You so much!

I'll practice, and I hope there will be a place for me in your lobby:)

I think a few Shift League member will come here soon, so may I ask if you plan to run 2 lobbys for each events as we had in the Shift league when we had more drivers for an event?
And to make sure I'll stand my place right between you guys, please tell me a laptime that I have to hit at VIR, to not to be too slow on a race.

TBH, I don't think I'm going to run 2 lobbies. I feel like too much of an 'administrator' before and after these events as it is. But if the lobbies approach full capacity I'll think about alternative possibilities.

Ultimate lap times are not as important as 'clean' racing. Certainly, if you want to aim for the stars and fight for the podium, you'd have to shoot for solid 1:29s. A good mid-field pace would be 1:31~1:32. So long as you can do consistent laps < 1:35 in the dry you should do fine.

In general, this is probably a 'lousy' track for your first online experience in this game. It's tight, narrow, has limited passing opportunities and there's bound to be some contact, especially near the start. But we're a pretty restrained group.

Hi Mohamu, to win the race you have to be in the mid to high 1'28 moust of the time:sly:

you can lock at the leaderbords, if you can do constant 1'30 ore a cople sec slower- you be in good company..

the VIR track alows to cach up because the track is narow and players in traffic lose a lot of time, so dont worry if you slow, the key is to stay on the track and be cosistant.

Thanks for the info!
(And can you tell me an average wet laptime?)

I agree that clean, gentl and fair driving is the most important, I just asked about the laptime because I don't want to make a situation what we can see nowadays in F1:)

I would say constant 1.31 to 1.33 should put you in the heat of the action (although significantly behind the leaders).

Got the game today and I'm looking forward to have some races with you guys some day. First a lot of practicing I think :)

I must say, the learning curve is steep when you start of immediately on Simulation settings. But I particularly started to like it from the moment I could buy my first car, the 348. An excellent car to start working through the challenges, so this racing league would definitely be one that I like.

Oh well, now I have to learn to drive again ...
i've just tryed my copy, and after Shift, i feel like i'm playin' with a simulator.
And now I see Ihave to practice a bit more, before i could join, min 1-2 weeks I think

I've now added a 'countdown' link to the original post. And reposted here for easy reference.

Unfortunately, the forum will not allow me to post a live javascript so I can't put a live timer directly on the page. But hopefully this will eliminate any confusion over the start time.

Hi jeff
Great idea with the timer. But it says 4pm and I think that's your starting time and not the actually starting time 8pm.Because right now it says 1 day 3 hour 23 min.and that will make the event start here(Denmark) tomorrow at 4pm.

EDIT: OK, can somebody (in a different time zone) check it now?

That's better

ARGH! No, of course that's not right. Let me check the options again.

lost power for 2 sec, screan black,, ps3 off, rooter with a red light!

...anyway 10 min earlier, qualified 2nd behind MHM and Vompati !

Right in the 1st corner was covering the inside line, braked early to judge Henriks speed, and then sliped in to the apex to fast and that forced Henriks of the track, was a litle contact, like leaning ( not legal ) i was about to lose a position to Vompati, there, i quickly defended my line and, waited for Henrik to pass me, i started to feel that my set up changes before the race are pants, i was fast but the car felt strange with -25 front instead of hard front..
Fortune hit me in the last turn with a off moment, lost places to Vompati and Jeff..

***

WAITING FOR THE SPRINT RACE :)

***

Sprint race :
started in front finished in front, no action, laped 2 cars, and was of the track more than enough.

First the important stuff, thanks again to Jeff for all the organizing 👍

Next, excuses  Friend of mine caught me by a surprise on the week and asked me to join with him for a weekend of sailing on the sea. Of course I couldn't say no to that and I can say, that at this point writing this I'm pretty tired! But for this reason I didn't drive for 4 days and I felt that I didn't know how to drive safe&fast that last corner and I had done only 9 laps on wet.. Today we came back and I got to drive couple of laps before the event, but I noticed that my pace wasn't quite there. I was lapping constantly +1s slower lap times than on wednesday (no, I'm not dreaming :p Miguel can prove that I did a lot of low 1'29's with occasional 1'28's during races). Anyway, to the race:

Qualify: I got a fairly good lap, lost the control a bit on the long left-right hand sweeper combination, but 3rd place was a good place to start the race.

Race 1: My plan was to keep my position, and then start to pick up my speed to what it was on wednesday. This had a little problem, I had jjaisli or Manny on my back all the time pressuring me! In the early laps new_soul went off, and a bit later from that I got a little bit of gap to Manny and jjaisli. Then suddenly, I noticed that I was leading. I had no idea what happened to mhm66. Things started to look good, until I noticed that my lap times weren't good and Manny was catching me. I seemed to get my driving together and got the gap back to increasing (or maybe Manny and jjaisli lost time battling), but then catastrophe hit. I drove with a wrong line into the corner, drove too much over kerb and my car started to bounce like crazy and I went off. At this point I was pretty angry to myself. Manny and jjaisli flew by me. mhm66 was still quite far away behind me, so I figured that I still had a chance to go for the victory. While Manny and jjaisli were battling, they had a little side-to-side contact and jjaisli went off. Then I was chasing only Manny. Eventually I did catch him and we swapped positions. I still didn't have my driving together and Manny was pushing behind me, forcing me to make more mistakes. But at some point he vanished from my mirror and mhm66 was the one behind me. There were only few laps left, so I started to push to keep the distance big enough. Gladly I was able to do that, so I drove to the flag 1st. Wop. Not good drive by me at all, but others had problems too and it helped me a lot.

Race 2: I started from the last place and on the first corners I was only monitoring situation to see where to go. On the third corner I tried to go around GTP_Hun, but he had cars all over him and we had a little contact that sent me into the grass. But because everyone was battling in front of me, I was able to catch them quite quickly. Then I made some overtakes, lost control of my car and got a penalty -> lost some places, took them back and finally the situation was that I was 4th with Manny in front of me. But he was way ahead of me, I would've needed to catch him 1s/lap but he didn't let me do that. So 4th in the finish-line.

Overall, 3rd, 1st and 4th. Not bad considering everything. I doubt that my positions would've been any better with enough practice and without the break (and with sleep, lol), but maybe my driving would've been easier as I couldn't reach my wednesdays level at all. Sorry for my early braking in some situation and general out of shape driving. I really wasn't aware of my braking spots and driving lines in the first laps and I was too afraid of braking too late, so I braked way too early some times. At least Manny and jjaisli suffered from this.
