welcome to lime rock park or as we all lovingly know it, deep forrest (normal) this weeks race will be a 10 lap run at the track meet, and for the newcomers that may not be familiar with the way we run the race on the track meet, when you come out of the pits, stop. wait for the field to pass you by, stay in the back of the pack until you cross the stripe to begin your timed run, add your lap totals and submit the total time for all 10 laps.

thanks for playing guys, its been really fun so far, with no runaway series standout so far, which makes me feel like i did a fair job in tuning the cars, and penalizing in weight. i wish we could get a full field in here, but some people just cant hack it i guess lol.

So its not High Speed Ring reverse?

Yeah, he decided in another thread that HSR was too wide and flowing to simulate Lime Rock, and I agree. I think DF is a better choice.

Good, i'd sneaked a few laps of the H.S.R. last night - i think results would have comedown to who'd achieved the best gearing compromise, its not a good track for these underpowered cars.

Is anybody else having problems like I am? I'm losing traction and a couple different parts of the track. Mainly coming up over a crest and the fronts just spin. I'm also bouncing horribly, losing traction here as well.

Haven't set a wheel on Deep Forest in GT4 yet, except maybe a license test. But yes, at Trial Mountain I was definitelt unloading the front wheels on a number of the crests.

well i just put some 80 miles on testing and came up with this:

t1: 27.0 ish
t2: 57.4 ish

bobman
t2: 1'57.4 ish

Did you stop for lunch?

Unless otherwise is said I will assume all those are legal:

bobman
ops, no. it could have been 1'27.4 ish.

I think that's your lap time, not your T2, bobman  T2 is just before the last tunnel.

I ran a few laps this morning, and had T2's in the 58-59's ... with a lap time closer to what you posted :p

:banghead: what i jot down on my page was 27.0 and 1'57.4. proabably made a mistake and put a 1' infrount of the 57 lol

t1 27.0
t2 57.4

that should be correct now lol

I'm not the Race Steward, but I just ran my first laps on Deep Forest / Lime Rock, and I strongly vote that all three of these spots be considered out-of-bounds.

The red and white rumble strip clearly denotes the intended edge of the track, both in the approach and the first tunnel. The fact that they are paved is a safety item where you can see the owners cut the bank back. Taking advantage of that as part of the track is outside the spirit of the course design, IMO.

If you allow those two areas to be considered track, even though the whole car is outside the rumble strips, it makes this whole section of the course much easier. If you call the first two areas OK, you might as well cut the grass on the last turn. The only difference is concrete or dirt.

For the record, my T times for what I consider legal laps are:

T1: 27.056"
T2: 58.854"

I'm really happy with the car's transient response but I'm getting even more wheelspin at the crests than I did at Mid Ohio. I'm going to do a little suspension adjustment to see if I can't allow a little more compliance without sacrificing the cornering behaviour.

It's a Golf, not a LawnBoy. ;)

Definitely not legal.

He's already saying the last one is illegal. But I really think the first two should be as well.

I would further agree with Duke and cast my vote that all three of these areas are out of bounds and not considered legal.

i completely agree that all 3 should be considered illegal. when i did my race i figured that it was ok and everyone else was going to do it so i did it. i do not have time to redo my race. i have work fri, sat, and sunday and wont be able to find a shred of time to redo let aloun more practice to get those corners figured out. so im asking if for this race can we make those 2 corners legal.

Well, pic #3 was a joke (sorry if it wasn’t funny)

But a decision need to be made regarding the other two, as of now I am using those curbs but I don’t really care. Either way is good as long as I know about it by tomorrow (we are approaching the dead-line faaaaaaast)

If the good lord hadn't intended us to use this area of curbing, he wouldn't have bothered concreting over the grass between GT3 & GT4!

If the good Lord had intended you to use that part of the track, He wouldn't have put the rumble strip 10 feet further to the right.

This stretching the bounds of "track" is starting to bug me. Two inside wheels on the rumble strip - no farther outside. Those are standard OLR rules in use all over the racing world.

 I thought all three were a joke, Deuce! Using those areas is clearly not in the spirit in which the track was designed. Whatever YLG's ruling, I won't be using them. I'd rather be slow.

EDIT: I agree with you, Duke. I wish this exact same question didn't come up every time I race at Deep Forest. The answer is always the same.

EDIT: Maybe Bobman could be assesed a time penalty for each time he purposely went outside of the rumbles? It'd be up to him to let us know how many times it happened (I trust him :) )

Again, don’t kill the messenger…
In my eyes it’s all good as long as every driver on the same page.

all 3 not legal. sorry but they were dirt in 3 they should be considered as dirt in 4.

I guess he got sick of maintaining the grass on this part of the track :sly:

- i didn't use this section myself, if you do its a bit like when you do a 'slalom' - you go through the first left hander quicker than you can the next right and left handers, leaving you with too tight a line going into the bridge. If you take the 'that' corner on the rumble strip and not on the concrete it gives you a more even line through this complex, you can accelerate through the final corner more effectively where as if you cut the first corner you enter the 3rd corner much quicker, hindering your ability to get round smoothly.

this is the only section i took full advantage of. as for the amount of times im sure i did it 9 out of 10 times. maybe if im lucky 8 out of 10. i would have to check the replay to be for sure but again i dont have time.

do you have a time difference in your theory?

I tried it early on in my 20-lap practice but decided it wasn't fair, so I can't compare it to my later laps where I was faster overall. However, I found at that time, it allowed me to stay at closer to full throttle in Turn 2 (the right at the top of the short hill), and then full from 2's exit almost down to Turn 4 (the right at the first tunnel entrance). When I stuck to the rumble-defined track, I had to use much less throttle through this whole section, starting at Turn 2 entry and carrying all the way into the tunnel.

I don't want to see bobman severely punished for making a judgement call. Maybe assess him 0.5" penalty X 8 occurances = 4 seconds... ?

Either way, thanks for the quick ruling, YLG.

Hard to say, when i practised i did some laps at first using all the concrete strip before i realised it was probably out-of-bounds, as i went on obviously my times got quicker. The trouble i was having when using the concrete strip route was that i was ending up at the tight right hander that leads to the bridge at some obscure angles and speeds, often losing me speed going into the next section - some laps would be quick and others slow. The rumble strip route is much more reliable - in a 10 lapper consistancy matters.

Ok, Darwin Award time ...

I started my race a few minutes ago, and it was going terribly. The 5th place car was an Aston Martin V8 Vantage (the big ugly one). It must be very heavy, because it pretty much has to stop when it gets to a corner. I underestimated this, and hit, then passed him coming onto the main straight on the warm-up lap. I figured that since I hadn't actually started the race, it'd be better to start again, and make sure not to pass him. So, I restarted ...

I'm running (badly) on lap 4, when I got to the last corner. Not quite sure what happened (caught the rumble strip wrong, maybe?), but I ended up sliding sideways into the pit lane. I didn't realize this before, but when you enter the pitlane in track meet, it exits the race :dunce:

I hadn't had problems on this corner all day (well, not oversteer problems, anyway  )

Here's my question ... can I do the race again? Or should I take a DNF?

Hey, that happened to me in practice! I was running what would have been a very good lap, when I hooked the end of the rumble strip. It threw the car into the pits sideways, just like that!
