Thanks anyway, I'll be 'shadowing' the series as well - so if anyone drops out.... :sly:

I been thinking of setting up a 'Historic Touring Car' OLR series following similar rules to your SCCA WTCC series. Its a type of racing close to my heart, and its a bit different to what everyone else is running.

I've identified 12 suitable cars (upto around 1966) spread over 3 seperate classes, with full points for winning your class not just the overall race (like we do in reality)

I've yet to experiment with getting the performances of each of the twelve cars to a roughly similar standard, even considering the difference in the classes. Id like the fastest cars (class 'A' 2,000cc upwards) to be no more than 6 seconds per lap quicker than the slowest class 'C' cars.

I'll try to use some of the shorter circuits, which would keep it in line with its 'club racing' roots, and will further narrow the gap between the faster, heavier cars with the slower, lighter ones. I'll also try to visit some of the lesser used circuits in GT4 such as Autumn Ring mini, and Tskuba wet.

Once i've fleshed-out the details a bit better i'll post my ideas as a thread to judge if there's any interest in a series like this, until then i'd be interested in the opinions/potential interest of anyone whose competing in this SCCA WTCC series?

i would be interested, i think the biggest key to a successful series, is fun cars, so as long as the cars are fun to drive, it sounds like it would be pretty cool.

I'd be really interested in this 👍 I've been thinking about something similar myself lately. Here's what I'd had in mind ...

- Run the series in arcade mode, and use the quicktune settings to even out the cars (i.e. the race admin specifies quicktune settings specific to each car, so that they all share a similar power-to-weight ratio). Arcade mode give lots of flexibility for opposition, # of laps, tire wear, etc, and not tuning the cars means less effort is necessary for the drivers to compete.

- Don't break the series up into classes. I think it's more fun to have a short, focused race, than an epic championship. Plus, you'll have more success getting a good turnout for 4-5 focused races, than something the spans months of racing. If it goes well, run another series afterward for cars in a different class. Again, the simplicity of one set of rules means less effort for the drivers involved (I know ... broken record, but I think as much as fun races, making it easy for people to have a go is just as essential to a successful series).

- Short tracks are fun (I love Motorland), but some of the bigger tracks are a lot of fun too, and they have a whole different feeling when you're in an older/slower car :) I've been driving an old Alfa Romeo GTA around the 'Ring in the 1000 Miles series ... 115hp and it's a blast. I'd love to see tracks like Costa di Amalfi, Ciatta di Aria, and Georges V ... perfect tracks for classic cars!

- The "Practice Lots, Run Once" method that the SCCA uses is great. It makes it a lot more fun, without everyone running over and over ad nauseum, plus it allows for some longer races.

Anywho, there's my $0.02 :D

I appologise for hijacking this thread - but i thought you guys would be the most interested in the series i'm thinking about. Anyway, this will be my last post on the matter before i post a thread on the subject.

thanks for your feedback yourlocalgod & Luxy, i've been mulling it over and decided to move it away from calling it a Historic Touring Car series - i think it would be too hard to equalise the performance of a Fiat 500 and a Shelby GT350. So instead i think it will be more fitting (and US friendly) to call it a 'Historic Trans-Am' series.

This should give you an idea: http://www.historictransam.com/homepage.htm

Although it was mostly US muscle, in the early years (the series originally ran between 66' & 72') Alfa GTAs, BMW 2002's and Datsun 510's ran as well. I believe the Alfa actually won the first ever Trans-Am race at Sebring. I'll aim for a power-to-weight ratio of around 300bhp per ton which i think is a realistic amount that the cars can be tuned up or down to.

I've a short list of 10-12 cars that would be eligible, most of which i know actually ran in Trans-Am, and the others are of a similar ilk. I've also short-listed a selection of tracks to run on, some of which are actually used and others that will substitute very well for the other used tracks. Most of these tracks are good, flowing mid-lengthed circuits, as opposed to the shorter ones i originally mentioned as i think they will suit the cars better.

Using Zoxy's idea of running the entire series in Arcade Mode, and the flexibility it would bring seems to be a great idea. I'll test it out over the next couple of days and then post a thread about it early next week. If anyone has any further suggestions then feel free to PM me to stop this thread going too far off-topic.

Things are heating up for me at work (I'm doing 12 hour shifts, and will likely have to do the same through September). This is giving me a lot less time than I'd like to have to race.

If anyone wants my seat on the Golf Power! team, I'll turn it over to them. The rest of the guys in the league deserve someone who'll be able to put in the practice time needed to be competitive as an opponent.

Please PM me.
