this week we are in sunny california with lots of "distractions" but keep your eyes on the track guys, this one can get away from you in a hurry. 10 laps track meet style, start timed laps in the back of the pack, all standard rules apply.

this week i will also be driving (after i drive my race in the protege) the acura RSX-S to determine weather or not it is competitive. if some of the other front runners would like to assist me you may, but ONLY after you have already run your race, so that you dont get more than one look at the field/race before you turn in your time.

have fun guys

I'll certainly be interested in those results, i might be new to OLR - but i've spent far to much of my life playing all the GT games to know i can't be that slow!

I've been thinking that the RSX-S must be down on power, looking at others lap times. 👍

I'd be happy to give this a shot and compare it to my 247 hp Protege.

@TheCracker, I haven't yet driven the RSX-S, so I can't say for certain whether the car is up to snuff, but I will say that OLR is an entirely different animal than racing AI in the game. Consider that in the challenges thus far (Hong Kong aside) we have been able to easily outpace the AI, if not lap them. If your primary experience is against AI, how can you really know how fast you are?

At present, I am fortunate to be leading this series, but I personally know that there are many, many racers out there (some of whom are in this very series) who would hand me my arse on a plate. :nervous: My point is that even though I have been doing OLR for several years, I know that I can, in fact, "be that slow". ;)

I'll second what q_b says. I'm a decent player; a most-but-not-quite-all-gold-licenses kind of guy, and I understand theory of technique and adjustment. I can turn in pretty consistent laps and I can almost always beat the AI with less car. I never mod more than necessary to barely win when playing for percentage. In GT3 I hold one GTTimes record - 10th fastest lap around Apricot Hill in the Ruf RGT. I consider myself a solid player.

But I'm definitely bottom tier in OLR. In the Weeklies I qualified in Division III and though I never really had time to run it, I'm sure that I would likely be mid-pack there. Good OLR drivers are at a very high level of speed and consistency.

I'll ocntinue this; and they are all right. OLR is a completely different level of racing. And even then, within OLR there are several levels of fast. Having driven at most of the levels at some point in my 4 years of OLR, I can tell you that the really fast level is so damned fast that you wouldn't believe it. Just wait until the nect Boards Challenge gets underway and the real big names in OLR start showing up and posting their times. It is simply awesome how fast some guys can go.

If you follow the weeklies at all, you will be familiar with the two guys who consistently run away with it (holl01 and hotboi). Those guys would definitely be on the podium, but don't be surprised if they don't actually win any races in a BC.

Racing against us is a totally different game than racing against the AI.

I didn't want to sound like i was moaning guys, i took up the seat in the RSX-S because i was intreagued with OLR and this series looked appealing, i don't really care if i'm running at the the back of the pack - i'm in it for a bit of fun. I just didn't want to be running a car that was below par with all the others on the 'grid', especially since drivers of the RSX-S seem to have come and gone quite frequently. If it turns out that its just me and the car is relatively competitive, than i'll just have to try harder. I think my problem is that i've never really spent time tuning any of the front drive cars in the game, i can get a RWD set up to suit my driving style, but FWD is a bit of an unknown quantity - if anyone has any tips they would be welcome - especially from anyone who has decided to test the RSX-S for comparison :sly:

Please can you clarify, is this Infineon ??? is it the SP one or the other ???

I've PM'd my times to yourlocalgod.

Turned out some pretty consistant laps 👍 - unfortunately consistantly poor 👎

Been busy this week and managed only around 12 laps practice before realising i'd need to run the race last night (thurs). On a circuit like this passing the AI cars is a bit tricky, i managed to lap all the field but one before the finish. I don't think i hit a single apex all race and found it hard to find a good marker for braking points into certain corners.

I think i'll end up around 15+ seconds down on the pace setters this round.

i did practice back on wendsday. my better laps i think were not too bad but i had lots of inconsistancey the more and more i played. so i stoped thinking that theres plenty of time left to finish the race. well now its saturday. good thing is is i have the weekend off. but im going to be really busy this weekend. so im thinking i should be able to squize this in but i wont have time for much more practice. maybe a few laps than its off the the races. so i know this race im sure i wont be on the potium.

Time Submitted. Had about half an hour of practice, and then the race (just found out I'm leaving town a day early for the long weekend :D ) The race went ok, considering, no big mistakes, but no great laps, either. See you guys next week 👍 Good luck all!

well i got my race done. it did not go as bad as i would have thought. made a couple mistakes and did not have much problems with traffic.

the oddest thing i have ever seen was when i went to watch the replay on the first lap (after the warm up lap) more than half way my car cuts a corner and hits a wall and does not continue the race. the ai passes and my guy just sits there stuck. now im going wtf, i have litteraly minutes to get off and this happends. so i quit and go to the replay theater. thank god it worked there!!

This happened to me, too, on one of our earlier 'track meet' races. :odd: Also got my times from Replay Theater.

Once again, I had a short practice session followed by the race. I feel I did good but I'll probably be placed in my usual spot.

Along with bobman and qb, I had problems with the replay. Here's the story the replay shows. Actually kinda funny:

I roll out of pit row and stop, wait fo.......fast foward.......Cross start line for the first lap. Everything going smooth. Pass through T1 and brake for the right. Up over crest to sweeping left. I tap Acura HSC in the rear. I end up taking a tighter line and went off course on the inside of the HSC. Upon re-entering the course, I pass between the HSC and the EVO VI and B-line it to the other side and hit the tyre barrier. I ride for a bit before thrashing the wheel the other direction to hit the wall on the other side of the course. I again re-enter the course and stop, turn sharp right and gas it. Head-on to the wall. Not realizing that there is a reverse gear on the car, I continue through the gears trying to break through. I eventually turn right and continue on the course.......backwards. I bounce from wall to wall, tearing up the gearbox like a 4 year old kid just mashing buttons. The field passes, all missing my retardedness. The field comes around again. By this point, I'm almost taking the left to go back to T1. I come off the wall just in time to have a head-on collision with the EVO VI who is then rear ended by the EVO VIII. I laugh hysterically and stop the replay. I must get my times. Elapsed time: 4.5 minutes.

The replay theater almost made me go ape. It was posting my splits when it wanted to. Made me nervous. But I got all times.

Times submitted to YLG.

I also had replay trouble; the first time I've ever seen it with my own eyes. In the replay I didn't even finish the warmup lap; at the exit to the fast right before the hairpin, B-spec Bob dipped a toe in the grass at exit and got the car sideways (I sure didn't!). He then turned into the hairpin about 50 yards too early, ran through the gears with the nose to the wall, and then worked off to the left as he tried to go through the imaginary first three turns. This got him off the wall and into the pits, ending the replay.

In the real race, I came down the chute on the warmup lap, only to get brake-checked by the 5th place Z06. I avoided contact, but lost too much momentum so I was not able to swing out for the pass after taking the green at the s/f line. I started to go outside him at Turn 1 but he changed his line, causing me to cut inside to avoid contact and divebomb him at Turn 2. This left me a little hot at Turn 3 (the first crest) and I had a minor off at the exit (lost time rather than gained, though).

I gathered it up and pursued the 4th place Camaro SS, holding a tight line and slipping past cleanly in the chute after Turn 5 (the second crest; highpoint of the track). I got the 3rd place Monaro CV8 in Turn 6 and the 2nd place T350C at the exit to 8 after the footbridge. For whatever reason the Sylvia 240RS was miles ahead, and I didn't run him down until the hairpin. He held me up through the turn but I passed cleanly to the inside at the exit - just about 5 mph off the pace thanks to his slow negotiation of the hairpin.

With a clear track I ran laps 2 through 5 on a good pace compared to practice, each lap a few tenths faster than the last, until laps 4 and 5 were faster than my best practice. I happened to notice this on lap 6 and consequently the little kick of adrenaline caused me to make a slight bobble after T1. I didn't have an off, but the rest of the lap was loose and again I was troubled by poor trap speed at the s/f line, so lap 7 suffered a little as well.

Lap 8 proved to be my fastest as I got my discipline back in order, knocking almost 4 tenths off my best practice lap. I was careful not to pay attention to the timer, though, since lap traffic was coming up. I got a clean pass at the Camaro inside Turn 7 and the Monaro a few seconds later, passing at exit to Turn 8 on Lap 9. I again caught the 240RS at the hairpin and again had to wait for him top clear the turn before I could move by on the inside. Traffic cost me about 1 whole second on this lap and the slow trap speed had a few tenths impact on Lap 10 as well.

Overall my laps were pretty consistent and controlled; I know I left at least a second and a half on the track for my own miscues, and probably 2 seconds for traffic overall. I didn't record T times from my best race lap, but for practice they were:

T1: 21.621"
T2: 1':05.634"

01 - 0'21.514 / 1'05.501 (43.987)
02 - 0'21.458 / 1'05.427 (43.969)
03 - 0'21.999 / 1'06.297 (44.298)
04 - 0'21.513 / 1'05.437 (43.924)
05 - 0'21.710 / 1'05.861 (44.151)
06 - 0'21.533 / 1'05.555 (44.022)
07 - 0'21.883 / 1'05.946 (44.063)
08 - 0'21.619 / 1'05.957 (44.338) - Two very light contacts with GSX-4
09 - 0'21.344 / 1'05.449 (44.109) - Very Minor 3-wheels off
10 - 0'21.709 / 1'06.109 (44.400) - Minor 4-wheels off (same turn as above)

All in all, I don't think this race was too bad, but my best practice lap suggests I was about 1 second per lap off pace... so like 10 seconds or so total loss..
During practice I was seeing (very consistently), about 0'21.300-400 and 1'05.050-300, of course, I was a little more reserved for the race, and cost myself a lot of time, especially in the hairpin and quick right that preceeds it.

Interesting. I had no idea that rule existed, since I never ran that warm-up event, I never read the thread, much less the rule added to it.

On top of which, I have seen another specific individual whom has reported the same thing after several of the rounds, and nobody 'corrected' their mistake.

In any event, thanks Q_B, cause I sure do thing 'someone' ;) missed that particular addendum (which should be added to the actual rules post...) ...

Race run and time submitted.

My field was:

Honda NSX '99
Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STi '96
Mitsubishi 3000 GT VR-4 Turbo '96
Subaru Impreza Sedan WRX STi '00
Acura HSC '04
Mazda Protege '02

I came up on the heels of the 5th place WRX (the HSC had passed him on the practice lap) right at the practice lap final hairpin, but he was fast enough so as to not let me pass before the S/F. I caught the Subie at turn 3 and ran on his right side over the small crest, finally overtaking him on the outside as he braked early for turn 4.

As I braked for turn 6, I could see the HSC and the 3000 GT up ahead but had to follow them through 6, 7, and up the hill toward 8 (the downhill sweeper). The HSC slowed up to the pace of the 3000 and I was able to get underneath both of them cleanly before we got to the straight.

The second WRX was a bit ahead of me through turns 9/10 and through the 11/12/13 sweepers, but he slowed for the #14 right sweeper and I easily ducked inside for 2nd place. By this time, the NSX had a considerable lead and was nearly to the 'chute'.

He must have taken the hairpin horribly, though, because I could see his beady little taillights when I came around. I finally caught him through turn 7 (lap 2) and got outside position for turn 8. He braked early for the downhill and I easily passed him without incedent.

A couple of minor incedents (of my own doing) to report:
I had a two-wheel off after turn 5 of lap 4, a two-wheel off in the sand before the chute on lap 5, and a three-wheel off after turn 6 of lap 8. As expected, these were reflected in my slightly slower lap times for the respective laps. :ouch:

Laps 9-10, lap traffic. The 3000 was the first, and I got by him without incedent. The two WRXs were next. The first decided to rub paint through turn 7, but no foul. The second ran wide at the exit of turn 8. I took the inside line and was not affected. I could see the NSX hitting the hairpin just as I hit the chute straight for the final time and the HSC was WAY out in front of him (entering turn 8).

My average race lap was nearly a second slower than my best practice lap, but only around four tenths slower than my average good practice lap, so it was a decent outing. Based on the posted splits, however, I'm not sure how I'll fare in the field this week. :nervous:

HUGE congrats to bleurabbit for an AMAZING run. that weight (or lack thereof) did you good on all these hills. big ups to link as well for his best finish to date (if memory serves me correct) luxy..lwell....good solid consistent run as always lol....that weight killed my little protege this week...last week it felt fine, this week it felt HEAVY. cracker i didnt have time to run the RSX this week but i will run it at el capitan. you do however have a new teammate, he posts over at the times. ///m-spec has officially retired, so there is now a seat open again on the virtualtime racing team. great week guys.

Well, thanks for the congrats... it actually ties my best effort in this comp. In the opener (Twin Rings Motegi) I placed 2nd behind Q_B... that was long before all this weight... :)

Congrats to bleu, that is definitely fast, sure must be nice having no weight penalty on them hills for sure. But... now I am going to go back to mid-pack... up to 160 kg (I think that makes it).... ugh.

Wow, didn't expect 3rd :) Nice runs guys, especially bleu :O

Looking forward to next week ....

Yeah, and if I hadn't noticed I was beating my practice times, I'd have been in a photo finish with bhawk!

Nice runs, everybody! I'm sorry that my teammate ///M-Spec had to drop out, but I'm looking forward to a new partner to finish out the rounds with. If anybody is looking for a ride, claim it with ylg and then hit me up with a PM and I can give you my current setup.

Incidentally, I didn't want to start practicing at El Cap yet, so I hopped in the VirtualTime transporter and shipped the VTR Acura TSX over to Japan for the Type R Meeting. The mechanics removed all the power mods, but I was afraid to change the handling any because I am very used to the current setup. As it was, we took the series in a sweep, with 87 to108 A-spec points every race. The best contest was against the NSX-R at Motorland; making the front tires last 10 laps meant extra smoothness was required, and the midengine NSX was never far behind. Our MOV was 4.844", far and away the closest in the series.

Congrats to the podium finishers  very fast time bleurabbit, nicejob! 👍 and Luxy another excellent run, I'm trying to kept up but you're just to fast!
