So, uh, whens it supposed to come out now? Late, 2059 maybe? It seems like this car should be on the cover of the next GT, since they'll be delayed the hell out of.

Production for both the Subaru BRZ and Toyota FT-86 starts at the Subaru factory in Ota, Gunma Prefecture, Japan in spring 2012.

In order to increase capacity they are going to open factories in China and Malaysia which will manufacture cars for those markets. Additionally they will stop manufacturing their own K-cars but instead they will rebagde existing models from other car makers.

As a result the factory in Ota, Japan will have capacity for the BRZ/FT-86 and the new XV. Impreza, Legacy, Outback and Forester production is planned to double with the increased capacity. It's called the Motion-V plan.

Please quote the original article. Give credit and web-hits where due:

The Truth About The FT-86. Straight From The Mouth Of The Chief Engineer

Bertel (my next door neighbor... I mean, China is only one time zone away) is such an unappreciated writer...

Love this quote:

“We usually come up with a designated tire, a tire that is optimal for the car. We arrive at this decision after long tests. That some guys go and decide their own tire steals a little something from the enjoyment of the engineer – but that’s the concept of this vehicle. It is not made for the enjoyment of the engineer – it is made for the enjoyment of the owner.”

Really puts the whole project into focus. On one hand, they obsess over the suspension and tuning to the point that they've got it optimized for the tire it's on, on the other hand, there's the implicit acceptance that this car is meant for the enthusiast and tuner.

Subaru BRZ Dimensions and More Teasers Released Ahead of Frankfurt

To build up more anticipation for its reveal at the Frankfurt IAA auto show next month, Subaru has released some full sized images (see here) of the graphics used on the Subaru BRZ Technology Concept website.

The most telling part of the photos is just the clear look at the FB engine (the BRZ, FT-86, FRS will be getting a new version of the FB engine with direct injection). The clear body should otherwise be mostly ignored as it’s simply a shell which is being used to display the car’s powerplant, suspension, and chassis. The production BRZ exterior is rumored to have been shown recently and was said to be very different.

Along with these images, Subaru has released exterior dimensions for the BRZ coupe, which will be:

165 inch length
69.7 inch width
50 inch height
101 inch wheelbase

Just read a comment that for some reason has eluded me. If they price the , 200hp/3000lbs car around $25k, how is it supposed to sell when the 265hp/3200lb WRX is sitting right next to it for basically the same price?

Wrx is fast and sporty but still doesnt deliver on 2 door rwd feel.

Btw I saw something above about production locations... Will the wrx/sti be moved as well? My sti was built in ota so I know hat particular facility is for there high-end stuff, lets hope the BRZ going there is a sign of whats to come.

I'm sorry, but if this car is over 3,000 pounds and $25k + I don't think it will do as well as they want it to.

I will have to agree on that, 3000+ is too much though 25k might be fine (need to see final product before judging).
That said, I feel like the 370 should have been a target for this car. Although the z costs more, it serves as an excellent example of the modern sports car (even though the z isnt exactly an entry level car).

I almost thought that was a new trailer by PD.

Correct, however we're relying on toyota and subaru to deliver that RWD feel. Numb driving feel meets understeer happy fun time. (WHy am starting to have doubts about this project?)
Have the STI/SPT and LFA engineers been involved in the project? Haven't really read anything about them.

Compared the measurements I listed above and he car is 8" shorter than the hyundai tiburon while the rest is within 2-3".

Id say we would be asking for too much to expect a 25kcar with this sort of engineering to come with the sti engine. Heck, they are having trouble doing this at the previously suggested prices, I dont see how they could upgrade to the sti engine and not go over 30k. Even the wrx engine would put this over 30k. That said, a wrx engine in this thing for say, 32k would stll be a scarey competitor to the Z.
Then again, drop the idrive and dccd of the sti and you might be able to get a sub-30k sportscar without too much trouble.

They would need to fabricate a few new things to adapt the 2.5 and trans to the new car. Negating any savings from dropping dccd.

in november they are gonna release pics of the actual car that will be on store lots

Flicking through a car magazine today, saw an article that reckons Toyota will bring out a stripped bare version with no stereo, no a/c and steel wheels. I think the idea is to try and encourage one-make racing. And obviously the tuning and customising that made the AE86 so popular.

That would be dumb, considering the current Forester is nothing like the last one.

No you are dumb and obviously need to learn more about foresters

I flipped out when I saw the bit where the guys in the office with their huge line of markers and tablets were drawing and drawing...[/color]

The current Forester 2.5XT's four-speed automatic transmission can't handle anywhere near as much torque-loading as the old one's. The balance is a bit better (thanks to better tires and a revised suspension) but it's taller and tippier than the previous car. To make a proper Forester STI now would require lowering the car a whole lot.

It's not impossible to make an STI Fozzie nowadays... but the current Fozzie is far cry from the Fozzies of old in terms of performance potential.

That screen looked it was something straight out of GT5 (the black background, the smoke).

I am very aware of the pros and cons I own a 2004 forester xt with minor mods and also own a 2011 xt with no mods. STI fozzies can still be had and is still a good vehicle even if they dont make it from the current one the old one can still stand up with the rest of these cars out here
