I recently bought the newly redesigned ps3 since my fat died and I've noticed this very annoying problem where the screen will flash black with no sound for a couple seconds then it'll come back. It not limited to GT because it was doing it during another game as well as Netflix. I don't think it's my tv because my cable box never does this and I tried the ps3 in another hdmi port with the same result. Are hdmi cables known to fail? Could this possibly be a software issue? Thanks for any input.

My TV does the same thing. I have SONY BRAVIA.
I am no expert, but I believe this occurs when the TV chances quality of the image.

If you switch the PS3 on, it will blink a few times because you are going from normal TV, to 1080p.

Same for any other game. The XMB is running at 1080p, and not all games run at that rate, some stay in 750p.

Like I said, I am not an expert, so my explanation is not very clear, and I might be wrong, but I find happening on my TV, with any game, any system plugged into it.

My Sony BRAVIA, does that as well. I think it's the change of the picture-quailty, as well.

Yea but I'm talking during gameplay. You're getting ready to brake for a turn and bam, sound and picture is gone. This never happened until I got my new system and used the hdmi cable that I got from the cable company. I have a feeling it's the cable. After work I'm going to swap the one from my cable box and see if that's it.

The cable will fail. Especially when it is bent. Mine lasted 2months. I bought a new cable, and it lasted 4months before issues, so I built a track out of wood that holds it straight. It's a pain but I can at least see :)

My HDMi is holding steady, but the connection into the TV is so weak that lightly tapping it with anything will cause it to fall out...:grumpy:

I read that 1 in 5 cables will fail. I bought a new cable last night but it was too short to reach my system so I used it on my cable box and swapped the other one to my system and aside from one spot of static on some menu music it's holding. We'll see I suppose.
