Hello all Im not sure if this goes in this forum but im considering buying a PS3 and of course GT5P, my only thing is i have an older tv that came out kinda as hdtvs were really taking off. Its a Sony vega, now i have been running my ps2 thru component cables and getting very nice pictures, my question is how will GT5P look, i remember from GT4 i was running either 480 p or i i wanna say p but i know it cant do 720. I realize it will pale in comparison to higher resolutions but with a recent batch of gamesw coming out i want to get a PS3

When I got a PS3, I had it in my Office room which has a 480 television set.. and it worked fine. I remeber Playing the GT HD and it looked fine. Now I hooked it up to the 1080p in the living room (most recommended)
So yeah it will work out fine for you. Maybe save up some money for a 720p or even 1080p

I run mine through a component cable and a little 15" CRT TV and it still looks miles better than the PS2 did. One thing to note though is that I personally don't get the full widescreen aspect so the view in GT5P isn't as panoramic, and in the interior view you can't see most of the rear view mirror and never the wing mirror.

I'm planning on getting an HD TV ASAP :P

thanks for the reply guys, im still on the edge on whether im gonna buy. I been cruising the sony forums and theres ALOT of posts about people returning units for repair, sometimes multiple times, and apparently grand theft auto 4 is contributing to alot of this

Remember, nobody is going to go online and make posts about how their systems DOESN'T have any problems, and I assure you the issue affects a much, much smaller number of systems than the 360's issues.

Yes truth of thematter is, PS3 is tons more reliable then 360 I know people whohave gone through 5 360s. Unlike the xbox 1, 360 was custom built for gaming, xb1 was a good gaming PC with all the PC stuff taken out.

Where is Microsoft can make software relitively well they can't make hardware.

I have two PS3s I had one since the 80G came out and I just got a 40G when GT5P came out (so there is no conflict with my wife). Both my wife and I are avid players and we never had a problem with the hardware. GTA4 does have some issues with it though, the game gets stuck during some of the the cinematics, and there is nothing you can do to resume play except to turn it off (without a proper shut down). The problem occurs when the game starts saving or loading the next mission and you turn it off while this is happening, basically you may loose all you data on the HD. I turned off the auto save feature and I haven't had any problems. I did loose some saved game data the first time it happened  A friend of mine lost a lot more than that but even if the OS screws up you can download a new of and re-boot your system.

As for your original topic. I've tried using all kinds of resolutions and TVs and it all looks good. The 1080p is of course the best but over all I wouldn't worry about using a CRT TV its going to look good.

Cheers

well that instilled (sp?) alot of confidence and i appreciate it. Ill prob get one tomorrow, i heard a rumour that there are 40 gigs being bundled with prologue? Regardless the first game im getting is prologue, heck this and metal gear solid 4 are pretty much the only reasons i have for getting it. Ive been with GT since the beginning so im excited for prologue, maybe ill see ya guys online!

I said from the getgo that this was for MGS4 GT5 and grand theft auto, because i just cant play it with anything but a PS controller

^^ Slightly off topic arn't we? :odd:

It'll be fine mate. I have a 5yo 32" Sony Wega SDTV, and the picture is great. Obviously it is not HD standard, but it will do.

One thing I will say is that there is a whole other level of detail that is not present on SDTV's when seeing and playing a game through HDTVs. Its not so bad on GT5:P, but on games like CoD4, it is crucial that you have the higher definition. 👍
