Retiring Grand Prix veteran David Coulthard may relinquish his seat at Red Bull Racing before the end of the 2008 season, according to the latest whisper in Formula One articles.

The rumour coincides with Red Bull junior team Toro Rosso's confirmation on Tuesday that Sebastien Buemi and Takuma Sato will be tested later this month in view of replacing Sebastian Vettel in 2009. In a statement, Toro Rosso said the pair will get a day each at the wheel of the STR3 at Jerez following the Italian Grand Prix because the team is 'turning it's thoughts to the 2009 driver line-up'.

'The time has come to try and find a suitable replacement for Vettel,'; Toro Rosso principal Franz Tost said. According to the Coulthard rumour, the 37-year-old Scot would hand over to Vettel after Monza, thereby creating an early vacancy alongside Sebastien Bourdais at Toro Rosso. The Ferrari powered team would then be free to trial teenager Buemi, Super Aguri refugee Sato, or any other 2009 candidates, perhaps Bruno Senna, at the final four races of the season. In terms of the current constructors' championship, however, the rumour makes little sense. Scuderia Toro Rosso's Vettel was the star of the recent Valencia race, collecting three points for sixth place, but the team sits just ninth out of the ten teams, three ans six points respectively behind Honda and Williams.

This should provide some end-season entertainment!

I dont see why Coulthard would retire early. Yes, this season hasn't been his best at all (in fact, its been his worst ever), but I don't see this as enough to make him retire before he originally intended. Its not like he's gone all Damon Hill on us yet.

Also, it sounds like some website has seen this article:

And copied it but added in a source-less rumour.

I can't see why either Coulthard would retire early or why Vettel would want to move to a team with a lesser car. :odd:

Well maybe Coulthard wanted an early retirement? He is 37 and even if he was fit enough to drive, I think his age is catching up to him. His driving style and awkward collisions with the other driver really did piss off most of the grid.... Then again, would like to see Vettel in a better car for once and see what he could pull of. Sure he may not do much with the RB4, but at least he gets to know about his car a little early. :D

Also, please bring back Sato!!!!! Then again, please let Bruno get an F1 seat as well..... :nervous:

Yeah! Sod Buemi and Bourdais! Bring back the best Japanese driver ever and the nephew of the best driver ever!

Satoru Nakajima is joining Toro Rosso?!

Not it's Sakon Yamamoto
No matter what anyone says about his ability, he is a genuine fellow from what I've seen in interviews, always being polite to the interviewer etc. And in the F1 paddock you'll only find a few drivers who are genuine nice guys.

I'd like to see Sebastian stay at Rosso until Brazil or China.

speaking of sato, what's the 411 on Ken Anderson's F1 team?

You tell us, you were the one that posted it originally ;)
Wasn't it just a rumour in the first place?

lol, I forgot that I was the one that posted it first.

yes it was a rumor but it would be nice if Ken Anderson himself confirmed those rumors to be true or false

Then I choose.....Aguri Suzuki! Go! :p

But Aguri Suzuki was good? 88 Gp's says better than Naoki Hattori's record :D

If im honest I think Taki Inoue was the worst driver EVER in Formula 1

Wow this stayed on topic

Heh, well there isn't much to say on the topic anymore really. Its a base-less rumour on Coulthard, no sources to back it up, nothing. The point of interest is the replacement drivers at Toro Rosso next year, which I think has already been discussed, though not in its own topic?

How about Michael Andretti? At least Inoue provided some accident prone comedy, like flipping after being tagged by the safety car and then being hit by the marshal's car ...

I'll owned you guys with this one. Tora Takagi. :sly:👍
Anyhow, whats the 411 on Ken Anderson's F1 team? Didn't the deal break down already? :odd: Oh, and as for the rumor, please let it happen before Spa..... :D

As a bump, does anyone now get the feeling a Team Red Bull seat is now a step backwards? Honestly, if you'd asked me six months ago, I would have said: "No."

So one year in the Red Bull seat, then the contract is broken so Vettel can go to ____ (fill in the blank).

BMW Sauber

Or maybe Ferrari:P
