haha good to know someone else finds it hard. it took me about a half hour to get gold on the first challenge with all assists off (spent about 20 minutes of that trying to shave .8s), but after twenty minutes on Eiger, what felt like a really good lap left me about 5 seconds short of bronze. Maybe if I get short on money or need an extra xp kick to level up ill go back with skid recovery and get some golds :p
 
Apparently, playing on controller is very easy.

My friend managed to finish it with all 3 golds in no time.

On the other hand, wheel play is another dimension. I struggled on both Eiger and Chamonix for some time, while Toscana was easy because I knew it from earlier.

On wheel it is more than pretty decent challenge with all-off.
 
easy? no, challenging yes. Golds are certainly attainable without driving assists, but not on the first try, It actually took me some work. its one of the special events i really enjoy.
 
Really? Because I am using my G25, and no assists. It only took me 2-3 tries per course to get gold. Guess it's just me.
 
While I had no problems with almost any License - only the really buggered me was F40 on Karussel - but I gave 2 full hours of my life for SebLoeb Challenges :D
 
IT would have been easy if u didnt get DQ if u hit the wall ffs.. its too tight for that to be not allowed..
 
Would be easy for me if I knew the tracks. I didn't and it took me some time (esp the snow one took me about half an hour to get gold). Great fun though! 👍
 
I was just getting silver with them and thought I would try skid recovery force due to what people have been saying, ended up with gold by 15 seconds! Went back and beat the gold time without it though as I felt bad.

Skid recovery force is far too useful in my opinion.

I'm using a wheel, and for me, the car is harder to handle than the Elise on the Top Gear challenge! I was using driving with no aids though, so I might try the skid recovery aid to see if that helps. 👍

the license in this gt are the really easy than previus gt, but the IC-1 took me away 1 hour..
 
I too have been on this challenge for a little while. I'll be trying it with skid recovery on.

Question though: With skid recovery on, should I turn off everything else? What setup should I use?

Only got gold on Toscana and it must have taken 20-odd attempts with no assists except abs 1.

I still find it difficult to get a consistent response from the car in the rally segments. Hairpins are ok as I can throw the rear of the car around by spinning up in the rear tires in second-gear, but that decreasing radius corner at the end is a pain as I just sit there going nowhere on the final part.

The Eiger and Chamonix will be much harder as I need to memorise the courses first and they're much longer.

I found hugging the inside of the corners, don't turn the wheel too much (i.e. don't let the tail come out too far), and sort of pump the throttle a bit between about 30-70% gets you around the corners, then obviously blast the straights.

Also, try to remember the few areas where a turn is labelled with a lower gear than is really necessary, there are a few corners that are marked as say 2nd or 3rd gear but that open out onto a straight, so try to get a good line through these and take them faster...

I found Toscana took 2 attempts as I knew it from earlier, Eiger took about 8 attempts (first few had no idea where I was going...), Chamonix was much the same, about 9 or 10 attempts.

I came to this game after a year on Shift (and haven' t played any other GT game) and found the Rally Challenges all about the easiest to get Gold on...

But I am so used to drifting round corners with Shift, I guess I feel at home on these!

BTW, the Rally races in GT5 are the only ones where I feel I get a sufficient road surface feedback from the wheel (compared to Shift). Most of the time, I feel I am driving around on a billiard table. Rome goes from tarmac to cobblestones, and I can't feel ANYTHING in the wheel (there's a noise difference, though) to tell me I'm on it. Has ANYONE ever driven on cobblestones and NOT felt the wheel judder?

Wheel response for driving is great in GT5, but feedback from tarmac road conditions is VERY muted (if there at all)...

Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a shot. 👍

I'm also thinking that I need to look again at my braking strategy. I brake like I'm on a race track, maybe that is not the best strategy. I'm thinking that you need to be a little more fluid with the car control etc. 👍
 
I got the first 2 problem free... the last one however took some work, i got it eventually without skid force so i'm happy
 
Got gold on toscana (easy when I turned ASM off) and got silver on the other 2 after wrestling with the car and learning the track. And thats using a controller with skid recovery off! May go back now and try with skid recovery on for those golds....
 
wow, i couldn't even get bronze with before with all aids off.

i read this thread, then turned on skid recovery and ASM, and GOLD!! by 9 seconds in the snow event!!!!!

Using a controller as well.

i cant do it to save my life, i either touch a wall and get disqualified or when i get to the end im about 4 seconds off bronze, any help please?:(
Im noramly really good at rallying aswell!
 
Snow rallies are way too easy, i beat gold for like 8 seconds and in rally competitions, i always came on second place, despite 4th place at start. I won those rallies for 50 seconds or more. But i always struggle on gravel...
 
I thought this Event was a good challenge. The snow was really tough, it requires a big change in driving style ( being patient!). But the snow master event was a totally new experience: no maps, no line, assist needn't apply, using roof cam at night doing 140mph was rather thrilling.

Did you turn up the force feedback? Not that I really noticed a ton of it either though....

Yap, thats sad but true.
We have a lot of those cobblestones streets in bern and they are way more slippery then normal tarmac/asphalt.

Would be great if you could feel the diffrence.
