You know GTPlanet... I may have a brand-new motorsports hero. Tom Kristensen has to be a new hero of mine. He won his seventh Le Mans in nine tries last year, then he won with the turbo diesel Audi R10. I normally got tired of Audi winning all the time, but it's more of a "friendly" hate.
And now, it's time I do my thing and uh... sound off.
JOHN SOUNDS OFF! - AUDI'S DIESEL VICTORY
An E-mailer on Speed Channel show "WindTunnel With Dave Despain" stated that hardly anyone mentioned Audi's Diesel victory. It's the first in a major motorsport, and it doesn't make news. First thing you'll likely ask me is, "what's up with that?" Or as I term it- whazzupwithdat? I'll tell you what's up. Not many people follow racing since the American sports media is mostly over March Madness (I am too, but even I took a break between College Basketball and motorsports). Sometimes people will mention sportscar racing. Note that the only racing I mostly see covered on local sports programs are NASCAR and Indy Racing. Even if you don't care about sportscar racing, at least give people some respect, especially sportscar racing. This is sort of a situation from last year in which I seen the best race of the weekend while another less important race gets 20% maybe 40% more publicity. Can you recall what that was last year? Correct! Le Mans on Saturday-Sunday, then the F1 GP of America. This time around, it's the 12 Hours of Sebring and then NASCAR's washout of the Nextel Cup event in Atlanta the next day. I'm proud of Audi's acheivements this past Saturday. I wished I could have seen more of the race had my parents not take me out around town. With this win, Le Mans is likely their next stop. Could you imagine if Audi's turbo diesel won the June classic? Audi would just add more Hall of Fame status in sportscar racing. Also, credit Tom Kristensen for riding the winning car to the line. Again, he may just be my newest motorsports hero. If no one gives Audi's diesel power any respect or publicity, then that's why we have GTPlanet and other racing-focused message boards and news deals. We've always been sort of odd man out, or "the little people" so to speak. Of course, I still think Audi's win at Sebring with diesel power (I think turbo diesel power to be exact) is a great acheivement. It would be much better news to get across than NASCAR's Atlanta event getting washed out. Doing it like this basically makes the Sebring win insignificant in racing news in America. Yeah, Audi won. But look what they did, winning with diesel power - something that hasn't been done in most major motorsports in America (or the world, maybe?). Even if you don't like racing or don't consider racing a sport, give the God-forsaken Audi R10 some respect! I know March Madness is the key story here in American sports (which I am covering in the Basketball Forums), but motorsports is almost always first to me before ANYTHING. So do me a favor... GIVE THE AUDI R10 IT'S G..DAMNED DUES!" You freaking dig me, GTP?
(clears throat) Carry on discussion, ladies and gentlemen. I'll go with other tidbits and comments about this race in future posts.
