Hey all - on my first full day back in Chicago in a week, I have seen the new Porsche Cayenne S and the new Chrysler Crossfire on the road. My impressions of both vehicles are good. To start, the Cayenne S is very good-looking. I saw it in pictures and at the auto show, but on the road it's truly spectacular - easily the best-looking SUV excepting maybe the XC90. Unfortunately, I saw it out of a second-floor window and hardly caught any details other than it was silver and had 'S' trim. Still, great-looking on the road.

I didn't really expect to see a Chrysler Crossfire for several more months, but I saw a white one yesterday as it passed me while I was turning left. It had dealer tags so it was not owned by anybody. Speaking superficially, it was great - fortunately, I couldn't spot too much resemblance between it and the Audi TT coupe, which, by comparison, appears staid and conservative - the Crossfire seems radically beautiful. I can't wait until they line the streets...

Anyway, that's my two cents.

I don't know about the Crossfire "lining the streets", it's got a fair amount of competition and the rear-end styling is undoubtedly going to turn some people off. It'll sure be a nice contrast to all the tin boxes already lining the streets, though. :)

Chrysler's had a good reputation for bringing concepts almost unchanged to the street. The Crossfire, however, doesn't seem to have made it. Some of the minor modifications they made in order to meet the market price lost a lot of character that the concept had. For example, the headlights just aren't interesting anymore. It's like taking Tyra Banks eyes and putting them on Heidi Klum: you end up with just your "average model" face.

As for the Cayenne...well, I can understand why Porsche needs it financially, but they should have just asked their VAG parents for a loan. It's not like they couldn't have payed it back. The Carrera GT should make up for things, though.
