I was reading an article about the Sega GT 2k2 for the Xbox and it had some pretty intersting features.
Aside from the obvious, car damage, the cost of repair to car damage incured in a race was deducted from the prize purse. Also one had to often overhaul the car's engine and added parts from time to time (which also cost money) and buy new sets of tires when the owned ones were old or overused in addition to changing the motor oil.
Basically the cost of maintaince (sp? i'm in a hurry) was the thing. And the higher class your car, the more expensive it is to maintain (can you imagine the cost of maintaining a car like the ZZII or Aston Martin Vanquish or a Viper for all you Viper freaks?). It would also put an end to 50 to 75 car garages that most of own. Imagine maintaining 62 cars that ranged in cost from F1s to Minis.
When you think about it, this really changes things in these types of games. Your more liable to take a longer and harder look at car when buying one. While the NSX is a very well handling car, is it really worth buying a $90,000 car that can barely out perform a Corvette Z06 (which is little more than half that of the NSX)? Which in respect to other sports cars is a bargain. Imagine if Ferrari really was in GT, would even buy it if you had to maintain a $150,000 360 Modena?
In the article, the writer, went on to say that in all respects Sega GT 2002 was better than average racing game and driving dynamics were close to on par with that of GT3 The only problem was, however, there were a lack of tracks, 8 total if memory is correct.
thoughts?
