Good news! I just hope it looks good too, cause Sega ain´t good in porting games to the PS2. Sega Sport Tennis and Sonic Heroes don´t push the PS2 so hard...

Yeah, I love the game too. But I know that the PS2 can do better in graphics than what Sega has showed to us so far.

True.

If you want fancy sega graphics, pick up the xbox port of Outrun 2 when it comes out. Looks breathtaking.

Or Panzer Dragoon Orta...

I have played both already, thanks! Outrun 2 is great, but Burnout 3 is better.

Blasphemy!

Meh, maybe you're right, I haven't played much of the latter so far. The EA logo on the corner is messing with my head. :yuck:

I don´t like to compare them, cause they are different type of games with different objectives, but when you are playing Burnout 3 for three straight days and you try out some Outrun 2, it kind of loses it´s shine. Don´t get me wrong Outrun 2 is a great game, but if I could choose only one of those I would stick with Burnout 3.

But getting back on topic, here is something I found on IGN:

IGN
September 16, 2004 - We reported yesterday that Sega is hard at work on a new entry in the Sega Rally series of arcade-style rally racing games. Today, we've got lots of new details on the game, Sega Rally 2005.

Being produced by Jun "Drift Bomber" Taniguchi, producer of Sega Rally 2, Sega Rally 2005 will arrive to the PS2 on the 10 year anniversary of the series. The big new feature for the game is the "AGC" system through which the game generates courses randomly. Each time you play, course layout, time, weather and road conditions will change. Sega expects this to replicate the real fun of rally racing where you follow the guidance of your navigator while racing on an unknown road.
It may seem that random courses will prevent you from memorizing courses in advance. That's not the case, though. In addition to the random courses, the game will feature a set of non-random courses which were fully designed in advance; some of these will be selectable by default while others will appear as you play through the game. You'll also be able to save your favorite randomly generated courses and replay them as often as you like.

As this is the first home-only Sega Rally game, Sega will be including a number of modes of play designed for the home. The game's main mode of play is a career mode in which you start off as an amatuer and work your way to pro driver status, then aim for top honors at the Sega Rally Championship. A quick race mode lets players race through a series of four courses, all featuring more than ten opponents. Finally, the game's time attack mode allows players to challenge saved random courses and non-random courses.

A release for Sega Rally 2005 is set for, as the name would suggest, 2005.

Sega Rally Still Coming
Sega's Rally racer is still on track for 2005
by IGN Staff

August 31, 2005 - Sega is still set to release Sega Rally 2005 for the PS2, according to the latest Famitsu. The magazine reveals that the game will be coming out in Japan some time this year.

Following a playable debut at last year's Tokyo Game Show, Sega went quiet on its PS2 Sega Rally revival. The game didn't appear at E3, suggesting that it had been either cancelled or bumped up to next generation status. With this new confirmation from Famitsu, we expect to get some hands on time at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show.
👍

Okay, so now it´s Sega Rally 2006.... but at least it´s coming! Some more news:

Sega Rally Update
Sega's PS2 rally racer gets a new name and a new career mode of play.
by IGN Staff

September 7, 2005 - SEGA Rally 2005 is no more. The PS2 revival of SEGA's classic arcade franchise, which debuted in playable form at last year's Tokyo Game Show, has been officially scrapped in favor of... Sega Rally 2006! That's right, the game is now expected to hit Japan in January of 2006, and Sega has given it a name change to go along with the new date.

Producer Jun "Drift Bomber" Taniguchi, in an interview featured in the latest Famitsu, reveals that his team has included a Career mode of play where you work your way from amateur levels to pro class. In this mode, you can progress from one race to another even without placing in the upper ranks. Those who want a real challenge can aim for the number one spot.

In addition to the career mode, the game offers a more arcade-style experience via its arcade mode, which is set up similar to the classic arcade-style play the series is known for. You start in 15th position and work your way up as you play through four successive stages. A time attack mode is also being worked into the game.

Famitsu gives no reason for the length of time SEGA has taken to get SEGA Rally 2006 out. Currently, the game is listed as being 90% complete, so the January 2006 release date should hold. Alas, SEGA was unable to release the game in time for the series' 10th anniversary this year.

I was always amazed by Sega Rally 2s graphics on my 300mhz PC, it looked good and was one of the few games that actually ran well. That was until my crap graphics card locked up the machine

I'd be pleasantly suprised if it was more fun to play then RSC2, but I doubt it.

Original Sega Rally Set for PS2
Sega to package original game with new PS2 update.
by IGN Staff
October 26, 2005 - Sega's update to its classic arcade rally franchise is at last nearing completion. The latest issue of Famitsu reveals that Sega Rally 2006 will see Japanese release on January 12.

The game will, according to the magazine, support the GT Force, GT Force Pro and a mysterious device called "GT Force Pro For Sega Rally." This steering controller will be released along side the game at a cost of 14,800 yen. There's no word yet on the changes being made for the "For Sega Rally" version of the Logitech steering wheel device, although it will be available in limited quantities.
The update on Sega Rally 2006 doesn't end with the release date and controller, though. Famitsu also reveals that the first shipment of the game will include the original Sega Rally Championship arcade game. A perfect port of the original arcade title, players will be able to select championship and practice modes and two cars.

Sega Rally 2006 has seen a somewhat bumpy development cycle, being delayed so long that Sega ended up having to change its name from the original Sega Rally 2005. The game played wonderfully at the September Tokyo Game Show, though, and with the bundled arcade title adding a bit of nostalgia, this should be a no-brainer for Sega fanatics, and possibly rally fanatics as well.

So now we have a release date (January 12 in Japan). 👍

And better yet, full support to DFP and the original Sega Rally game as a bonus. :)

Kikizo
Kikizo assumes that the Hitmaker team is behind the project, with the majority of staff from the old Sega Rosso side of the studio central to the project. Our source told us a year ago that Sasaki-san was overseeing the project but there has been a lot of movement within Sega since then and really anything could be happening.

Bad. VERY BAD.

Hitmaker/SegaRosso did Initial D Arcade Stage... :nervous:

If this is true, then say goodbye to Sega Rally 2006 being fun to play AT ALL. :ouch:

Say hello to horribly inconsistent and illogical driving physics, with random understeer and hard-to-initiate, don't-countersteer-until-after-the-corner oversteer, collision physics that force cars to slide around or through walls and other cars like hot butter, and very artificial car-performance attributes that pay absolutely no attention to the attributes of the real-life counterparts.

The video I watched seems to confirm Kikizo's assumption, but please, please let this game be made by AM2... :guilty:
