Just temporarily, until after the initial launch rush. I'm seeing WAY too many brand new users posting the same BS over and over again in the GT5 forum. They're creating accounts just to post something that we already know.

Don't believe me? Go read the "News" thread. See how many one-post users posted "Release date confirmed!!" with the link to the fake IGN Twitter account. As if we wouldn't already know about anything real. Hell, we're going to know it before IGN does. There's got to be at least twenty of those posts in the last thirty or so pages of the thread, and I haven't even been following the thread as closely as some.

It's getting out of hand.

I've noticed it as well but remember, all of us were noobs at one point too.

I think he means the Intro Thread, Kikie :p
Maybe - Registered/New Members can't post in the general discussion in GT5. And give some well respected members (not me then ) temporary Mod Status in just the GT5 forum.

I agree. I'm tired of seeing 20 posts all saying, "Not all tracks unlocked", or "Release Date is Nov. 27th". 👎

That's the whole fun it...seeing so many people around the world gets me even more excited!

Keep up the great work Jordan, I can't help but flip the GTP homepage every few minutes on my phone hoping for updates :)

Yeah, it would be cool to see Jordan deputize some of the high end premo's to uphold the law if the GT5 forum.

Raise your right hand and repeat after me.

I, [state your username] do by solemnly swear to uphold the sanity of and protect the Acceptible Use Policy in the GT5 forums to the fullest extent of my abilities, so help me Famine.

What if you're left handed? :p

I wasn't replying to slickityslick's post but to the OP's post. ;)

See how close we both posted our posts. I was searching for the thread of which I posted a link when he posted his (slickityslick) question about the Intro Thread. I didn't even read it (slickityslick's post) until just now.

No, I won't be closing the site to new user registrations - I don't think it would make much of a difference.

There has been a silver lining to the hammering the servers have taken since the leaks, at least from what I've noticed; more than a few members have sprang for Premium. So there is that!

I'll be finally getting it once I'm re-employed. This is just the beginning of the storm, I imagine...

I'm an old guy but surely not as grumpy as some others!

Let'em newbies share their excitement, post the fake IGN twitter, fire away release dates they learnt from their gamestop's clerk's girfriend's uncle's uncle's father's father.

They registered to fit in and be part of these exciting :dopey: moments, why deny them that. They're kids, remember! ;)

Well reverse the lining....even though we have some Premo people, the GTP servers have been taking a awful beating. I'm sure having the site run smoothly is better than a few Premos, but I wouldn't take down registrations. I do like the idea of Temp-Mods, because even us good members can't get into the GT5 Forum without getting overrun.

I could be wrong, but isn't this site what Jordan does to earn a living.

Why would he want to stop people joining his site? Is it not beneficial to Jordan to have more members registered, therefore he can charge more to advertise on GTP.

But WHY would we need temporary mods??? Yesterday I spent a lot of time reading the "GT5 latest News" thread, and I found it funny indeed (all that excitement, all that ...

... but I'll say this, bar the usual wannabe mods with an aggressive and completely misplaced "attitude" towards newbies, it all was very enjoying. I guess nobody had the chance to start internet fights because new messages were coming in at such high rates and that made "direct replies" a futile exercise.

Quite interesting to watch, as it was the excellent work of the REAL mods. Almost invisible, but always there (I noticed them in the big, big lists of members reading the thread).

So, don't ask for temporary mods, they're not needed (at least that's what I think, it's Jordan's call anyway)

True, but it was more the nonsensical release date "oh look at this hey this." stuff, surely I don't want to be a Mod (I'd say no.) but I think with that many people being flushed through the server that our regular list of Mods may have dealt with a larger group than they thought. But I do believe most of it's done, meaning hopefully the computers can take a break.

It's closer to 12. the concern isn't so much about the small number that got through, the concern is the 100 odd replies that are in response to them. Life would be so much better for everyone if they were simply ignored so that they can be cleaned up more easily, as and when the mods can get to them.

Very funny and educational post!
+1:tup:

If this was a poll, I would vote no/disagree on taking down the ability to register. The only advantage is that this procedure can keep existing banned and blacklisted users away. However, there can be disadvantages. Everybody wants to talk about GT5 and not just the release of it when they get registered. Maybe that is why registrations should stay open. If you want to get the opinions on every single user's point of view, I respect that. No pressure.

If you'd read the thread, you would have seen that it isn't going to happen.

The whole GT section is hilarious though, and incredibly facepalm worthy most of the time.

What if you were one of those members who got shut out if they did shut off registration?

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the people who are complaining about the 'GT5 rush' joined this site as part of the GT4 rush way back when. Hell, I was probably part of the GT3 rush myself. It's the same now, just on a slightly larger scale.

I might get banned soon and have to re-register, so I vote no, let new people in.
If you re-register, you will get banned again. :p

Don't forget, some of the mods on this forum are super and all knowing - God - like creatures. :D

Surely most of us will be spending less time on here and more time on GT5 (I know I will) after the 24th? So the amount of users will kind of even its self out.

Somehow the GT5 thread reminds me of the GT4 Drifting threads when it was popular.
