Hey Guys

Just now i was mooching around in the display settings of GT5 because i needed to enlarge the HD screen to 100% (so it fits my screen perfect) and i came across a setting that seems to of helped fix the nasty shadows in the game. I cannot remember the proper name, but i changed a setting from "normal" to reduce flickering" ?? or something like that.

I just ran an A spec race, and i noticed that the Civic Type R car i was using had much better shadows in the replays. Didnt look pixelated or was flashing or anything.

Can someone else please verify this, or just tell me i am seeing things.

Man I can't tell. I'd have to watch them side by side. My initial guess is the "Flicker Reduction" looks better, but I might be seeing things too.

yes, i would also like to know what this setting means and if it does truly affect the shadows. from what i'm seeing, it does not.

anyone else know if there will be a fix for the shadows?

Shadows are the biggest problem I have with this game, they are semply disgusting. If someone know a way to reduce those pixelated BS, please tell us!

I never noticed the shadows until i did some bspecing, but man they are terrible. I will play with these settings once my new tv is installed.

In terms of the TAA, this helps in mitigating some of the game’s sub-pixel shimmering issues, and looks to be present in 1080p only. You can turn off the use of temporal AA by changing the display option from ‘Normal’ to ‘Flicker Reduction’ to see the difference. ‘Flicker Reduction’ makes the overall image look slightly sharper, though introduces slightly more aliasing artefacts, whilst ‘Normal’ creates a smoother look, subtly improving image quality.

I don't think that would do anything to improve the shadows.

It's called "flicker reduction" and is in the XMB menu under "display settings". It makes a huge and noticeable difference, not just to GT5 but to GTA4 and even movies. Deifnitely worth the 20 seconds it takes to turn it on :)

I completely agree, the shadows are terrible. But personally the screen tearing annoys me more.

I'd love to have the trees that look like they were rendered on a Sega Saturn (ok maybe that's being a bit too harsh, haha) and some other things improved too. In a pre-race screen today, I could see the side of a crowd standing on a balcony. Because they're 2D though, they appeared to be cardboard cut outs (that also flickered). I guess we'll have to wait till GT6 (and perhaps a PlayStation 4) to have such things fixed.

Still, none of these things effect the fun of the game, and considering the PS3 runs with just 256mb of video RAM (and 256mb normal RAM), I guess it's pretty impressive still.

Even standard 480p resolution can't solve shadow problem. And it's shame because it's four times less resolution than 1080p.Maybe it's not a graphics-related problem, but overall performance.Or PD don't care about resolutions less than 1080p. (which is very bad!)

I also play Battlefield BC2 and noticed that some of the shadows in that game exhibit the same jagged characteristics as those of its GT5 brethren.

Could it be that it's just a limitation of PS3 hardware? The poor console does only have 512Mb of RAM, and even that's divided between system and GPU, or similar, I believe.

i have try many things and i found this to work best!!!

PS3>settings>Display settings

RGB Full Range (HDMI)- FULL

Deep Color/Colour Output (HDMI)- AUTOMATIC

GT5> Display-

reduce flickering

this has to be the best looking... the colors are great.
BTW.... if it seems to dark on you TV just brighten exposer alittle under GT5 display setting or buy pausingthe game and eting it there

Every hardware out there got its own "limits" even a PS3. It's up to developers DEVELOP a game that works best with ACTUAL consoles. We all shouldn't give a DAMN about GT6 and PS4 at the moment. We should require something that work with THIS console NOW. After 5 years development they just give us the worst shadows ever made in the videogame history.

@TaddyBear thanks I've tried your settings but it doesn't seems anything changing to my GT5 shadows, they sucks as always, thanks for the effort anyway.

I think they emphasized frame rate and game features (field size, etc) at the expense of shadow quality and alpha blending.

I'm okay with that. Didn't really buy it for the shadows anyways.

Also stop using Standard cars & import tracks they are sore to the eye... take a premium @ london or rome.....then a standard @ deep forest. you will see wht i mean....ALSO standard cars with the make 04 & older are better looking..

PD should also change everything in pit.the shadow is bad.in some track pit there dont even have a man.the most terrible thing is changing the x2010's tires.they can just change the tires without taking off the cover
