Well, my PS2 is almost dead. It takes a few tries to get GT3 fired up. It took 4 resets to get it started just now. I already now it's not dirty so the laser is going dead. I'm just gonna buy a brand new PS2. Mine is 3 years old. I'd rather have a brand new, nice and fresh unit. Maybe I'll get the PSX for the fresh new look. Any idea when that's coming out?
Anyway, my GT3 drifting days might be over soon being as I have now source of income. I gotta go apply at Arby's or something near by just to get by. My estimated exspenses for January are pretty high.

New PS2/PSX: $180-300(price fo PSX?)
Gran Turismo 4: $50
GT4 Wheel: $140
New controllers: $70

So that's anywhere from $440 to $560... ouch.

Oh, not to mention a cell phone bill, car insurance, car payments, cost of going out, etc...

I got mine used at the Gamestop for $149.00. It hasn't had any problems. They also sell refurbs for $159.00. It's not a new machine but it is cheaper.

Good Luck, mate.

:( duude no its just cant bee will u still mange the drifting team:(
what about x-mas and your mom getting u a new one?
well good luck u got the team behind u ;)

Of course I'm still gonna manage the team! I'm proud of Monkey D. We're 20 members strong already and we've already made alot of progress as a team. I'm in it for the long haul bro.

You don't have to replace you PS2, just the lens. If your PS2 breaks, it's always the stupid plastic lens. They're like $70 or so I think. You can find them on the web and probably on eBay.

from sony like $195 from ebay or any other internet store like 80 bucks

I do that all the time. The first time I cleaned it there was soooo much dust in there, and it worked like new after, but now it's spotless and still doesn't wanna work.

Dude I'm serious. Replace the lens and blow the dust out, it will work like brand new. It's the only thing that ever wears out in the PS2. For some reason they skimped out and used a plastic lens instead of glass. Let me guess, you run your PS2 for long periods of time like 4+ hours at a time? If so the lens has melted long ago. Once it happens the first time, it starts to get worse faster and faster because it melts easier after the first time, and gets more and more deformed. Unless of course you're one who likes to pick up your PS2 and slam it onto the table... (I say that because I've known people who do.)

Dude, where are you from? Those prices seem exrodinarily high. In US Dollars this is what I found at Best Buy.

PS2 (with online pack/ATV Off-road 2) $200
GT4 $50
Wheel ... I assume it's going to be $100 again
You don't need new controllers. And you don't need a PSX.

That comes to $350. You could probably even wait a couple months after GT4 comes out and it'll be a Greatest Hit (:

When I say PSX, I don't mean PS One. Sony is making a new PS2 and calling it a PSX.

I'm from the US, and you're confused. My prices were dead on, and you forgot to include the controllers.

Lemme just say this, I HAVE A GOOD ALTERNATIVE FOR YOU!!!, I had the same frikin problem, and I called up SONY with my dilemma and they said it would cost me $195 as well. But, being the stubborn asshole I am, I emailed them with a really disgruntled attitude saying, " I can't believe that you won't back up a product I just payed $300 for. It's rediculous that I would have to pay $195 to fix something I just bought for $300." then they replied with you need to give us your PS2 serial code and blah blah, you get the jist. I emailed em that, then they emailed me back with an order number saying they'll fix my PS2 for free, and they did. All I payed was $20 shipping. Best of luck to you.
