Shift 2 Unleashed PC Users

I am allmost ready with the offline part off shift 2 and will hit the online part right after.
By the way, very good idea

my autolog id is: Dazbog

i run su2 on my pc that i built. it running a chip overclocked to 3.24ghz from 2.70ghz with 2 gig ddr2 memory and 1 gig nvidia graphics card. runs perfectly smooth with that setup, even standard setup is good as well so it must be your graphics card need updating !!!

Thanks to everyone here who confirmed my request.
It's a lot of fun having you guys show up on my speedwall - too bad there isn't some kind of messaging system in the game.

not even tried the games full advantages, but will get round to it on my pc also need for speed hot pursuit as well !!!

Can you all advise me regards to graphic setting issue tks so much. Earlier on I posted my old notebook lenovo core 2 with no dedicated gpu n I got advise to buy a better pc so I bought a good laptop with gpu yet still can't play shift 2 really upset.

I am very puzzled as seems that most folks here get better graphics of shift 2 compared to 1. I experienced the complete opposite when i first unpack Shift 1 Loose and put in all mods. The graphic was equally stunning as GT5. But no matter how i tweak the Shift 2 using nvidia inspector. I only get 25 fps 10 cars race, no AA and no Vsyn in game. Rest set to High settings, except for shadows at Low. The graphic quality is 50% of what i get on Shift 1 and lots of flickering. I thought my laptop specs should be more than enough to handle Shift 2? Tks bro.

My specs:
Notebook: Acer Aspire 4750G-2632G50Mnkk (Aspire 4750 Series)
RAM - 8GB
Processor: Intel Core i7 2630QM
Graphics Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M 1GB
Display: 14.0 inch, 16:9, 1366x768 pixels

settings are automatic for the system for game. if you click right mouse/pad button it will come up with menu, go to screen resolution and see what it set to. should be full res. check game setting options and check graphics as well. the acer will only go to whatever settings your system can handle as is. no matter what you got mem/graphics !!!!!

Hi robbos thanks for the fast reply. My laptop native optimal resolution should be 1033x768 I think but since I project to a good dlp projector I set the resolution to match my projector which is 1028 by 720. I play the game in windows mode to gain few more fps if not it will drop to 25 from 30. Do u think is there anything wrong here? I am really puzzle as my gpu is conside mid range in gpu benchmark already yet the graphic is nothing near what I saw on YouTube most folks are enjoying. Really appreciate advice. Thanks.

Hi Boxox,
Thanks for the tips. u really taught me a valuable lesson that anything can be found on youtube haha. in fact i used Youtube alot to search for pc graphics of shift 2 and realised mine was the worst. I never thought typing Gt540m can find anything...

Now the sad part pal. My graphic really look like those in youtube so it really means that Shift 2 on laptop with GT540m gpu can never look as good as ps3? Is this certain? So it means very high end gpu than can match the ps3 graphic.. Boy I should have bought ps3 shift 2 long ago then as I have ps3... I thought my new laptop can make use to run shift 2.

Then I am puzzled why on EA website they stated the specs to play SHift 2 to be so low... Tks folks for advising me and helping newbie like me.

hi m8, i using shift 2 on my pc same as shift 1 as well. they both run with optimal graphics on a 1gig graphics card. i bulit my pc from scratch and all my games run at 1600 by 900 and not even get a flicker, also run them on acer laptops as well with no problems on both laptops and desktop .

Hi Robbos Bro,
Can you share with me what kind of nvidia setting you using or tweaks you perform if you using nvidia. I refer to boxox 2 useful links below... Really i am getting this kind of graphic quality only when playing...blur, flickering white lines...unsharp, dull colours..Are you getting anything better...? Tks

without Fraps 22 Fps in some races up to 30 fps

Frame rate Without Fraps - 20-45 fps Avg 27 fps

just using standard settings on a nvidia graphics, no changes everting just as is to run game. the reqiures a minimum 512 graphics card. i use 1gig as it was on sale in pc world for £50 so got that to use 👍

Yeah, I don't know what settings you were running in Shift 1 but as far as I can tell this (compilation of GT540m benches from a variety of laptops using it as the gpu) is about what it would get -

So tollerable at medium/high but probably less so as the resolution creeps up.

and this vs common desktop cards for raw gpu power -

(the 260 being about the minimum you would want to drive S2U at max settings at any significant resolution)

Then I am puzzled why on EA website they stated the specs to play SHift 2 to be so low... Tks folks for advising me and helping newbie like me.

Minimum is - it runs at all and features technically work. So maybe ~30fps at lowest settings. I actually used to run Shift at below the minimum cpu but with a decent GPU for a while and it did pretty good, especially in hot laps with no AI.

As for 'as good as the ps3'... it depends. You're running it at a higher pixel count, at (occasionally) higher FPS, with more demanding shaders/textures/etc. It shouldn't look worse. From a few benchmarks on my PC I've found really not much difference in detail settings past the jump from 'low' to 'medium' (and very little hit from AA). From what Griff has said the main bottleneck in S2U tends to be more about GPU architecture - not necessarily straight GPU clock speed or memory bandwidth, but how well suited it is to running the pixel shaders in terms of the whole render pipeline on the hardware/driver.

So some of the steps taken to cut down the power/heat/cost of the GT-M line (as opposed to the GTS/X line of mobile gaming GPUs) probably hurt it a bit. You might also find you get better results from trying different drivers (eg. at the laptop manufacturer's site, or see if the hardware id supports installing nvidia's own drivers from nvidia.com).

Hi Boxox and guys,
Thanks for your detailed analysis. You know... I finally bought the PS3 version last night and hurried home to try.. To my surprise, the PS3 Shift graphic is indeed less sharp and colour less rich than my PC version running on my GT540M gpu. Wow wow. This is some consoling to my decision to buy my laptop as it now proves that my acer notebook with GT540M gpu in fact not that lousy.

I think over youtube when i see PS3 graphic it seems very sharp and nice because it is a small screen infront of me. When i am playing over my 80" projector screen in my dedicated hometheater room, the PS3 version one now seems soft..while my PC version is sharp. The PS3 version seems like when I set the PC version to medium quality for all graphic in game setting. Now I know I just need to tweak the smoothness and frame rate issue of my PC version and it will beat the PS3 version already.

BTW Boxox I set my physiX output on laptop to GPU always, instead of AUTO. Immediately there is 10-15% improvement and I go on to tweak the AA setting of nvidia control panel. So now I can say the graphic on PC is better than PS3. Only thing is on PC, it is not smooth framerate as PS3 and the AA flickering (zaggies issue) is 2x worse than PS3 version. I will continue to tweak more and I am sure will continue to improve base on folks' kind advise here. Thanks guys.

P/s - I always thought the PS3 SHift graphic overall should match to GT5 but after last night... I feel that it is the most 80% of GT5 nice graphic level, in terms of sharpness, detailing and colour richness.

Hi guys, I'm a frequent reader of the forums but infrequent poster! I started playing Shift 2 on the PC (I have it on PS3 also, it seems to be too laggy with my G27 on PS3), as it seems to run a lot better, but have no autolog friends to lose to, lol. My username is barese345 and would be glad to have some competition on the track times.

Does anyone play the PC version with an XBOX360 pad? I'm having a lot of trouble finding decent controller settings for it, anyone found a config they're comfortable with?

Greetings all! So...basically I've been playing NFS Shift&2U for a couple of months now, and have been REALLY enjoying it; so much I basically dropped my other MMO's for this...lol I've posted up a couple of set-ups here and there, in other forums and posts, and on Renown Tuning Unleashed ™(well...just the one on that forum). I've really gotten to enjoy the frustrations, complexities and triumphs of the game and found it fun! Tho, like some of you guys who started off, I don't have a much of a FRIENDS list to compare times to, so I figured I might as well join in...:)

Mine is Pantero44 on Autolog, and I'll get started on looking some of you up as well.

Any PC users still playing and looking for some Autolog or online action? Could add a few if anyone is still playing. ;)

Been really busy lately, but I saw that Pantero44 added me in Autolog, so I gave him a few times to aim for. :) I will add Kenzim and sagedavid too, unless you are no longer playing. I guess nobody else here is still playing?

please re-ad me to the list, autolog id " Dazbog " (without the h).

on the moment I replay the game on difficult.

record time at Spa: 2.06
at Nurnbergring: 6.19

Same here! After wearing out my racing wheel's shifter, I had to wait week for a new one to come and found myself TOOOO busy to get back into the game having to fix the house. I'm almost done but will be gunning for those new times, soon enough! :)

Hi there. To the guy saying he can't run Shift 2 on his GT540m at full settings.

I just got the game and was looking for other peoples benchmarks to compare.

I'm able to play it on highest settings with the GT540m OC'd. Depending on your computer if it has good ventilation/cooling you can OC it also. Google GT540m overclock and you'll find a 22 page thread of info about it.

Mine runs sc2 ultra, dead island high, shift 2 maxed out, meanwhile nobody who has the card stock can do that and it ran like **** stock by comparison. It doesn't get too hot on my Samsung RF711 but you should use HWMonitor to check the temps carefully if you're going to use MSi Afterburner etc to OC it.

I will say this though Shift 2 runs for me on max settings with zero lag, vsync enabled. (You can try D3Doverrider as well)

Anyways good luck.

Just to let you know I just used fraps. It was 30-31 fps and dipped down to 28 a few times, once to 26 for a split second. I still have 5-6 degrees worth of OCing I could do though in terms of temperature. No doubt at least the RF711 can OC this game to the playable range on maxed out settings.

Personally, I think 30FPS with dips down to 26 is way too low. Rather tune down some options and run it at 45-60 FPS.
