Hi guys, I was playing the game and noticed sth different from GT5P.

First, I play it using my G25 set, and I'd use the clutch whenever the cars have an MT version as in real life (i.e. won't use the H-shifter on R35). Somehow, I feel that if I use the paddle-shifters only, even ordinary cars like Toyota Vitz, Suzuki Swift & Renault Megane shift as quickly as R35/F430/LP560-4 which are equipped with double-clutch or F-1 like gearboxes... anyone else think so too?

P.S. Is it confirmed you don't have to press the "triangle" button on G25/27 in order to enable the clutch? It seems to me the game is now supporting the clutch automatically. 👍

I don't use my g27 clutch at all now :grumpy: With the change to the clutch friction point and the faster shifts while using paddles there's no point. I'm pissed about it too because I bought a g27 for GT5 👎

I have noticed a similar thing, however I do still think with good timing you can clutch and shift marginally quicker than paddle shifting, just like on prologue however its not always a stable option for example if your racing online and you shift into N by accident.

Secondly the clutch has been working automatically ever since update 1.01, soon as you press the clutch it activates.

hope this helps somewhat,

Auzzam

Clutch is activated simply by hitting the clutch pedal.

Even with the paddles, you still shift faster with the manual/clutch. Watch the visual accelerator input graph, when you use the paddle shifters it shows a redline which means no throttle input even if you are on the gas. With the clutch the red line is pretty much non existent. Clutching is still faster that paddle shifting, unless you are using the F1(not sure if this thing shifts like a manual does in the game). But as far as I know and witnessed, manual w/clutch is still the quickest shift with literally no pause between engaged clutch and accelerator input.

Probably I should improve on my manual shifting techniques...

Cuz last night I was playing my first B licenses... I could easily achieve Silver with the manual shifting. Out of a bit frustration, I turned to using the paddle shifts no matter what car I was in. The result: I got all Gold easily!

The key I think was the paddle shifts got me the crucial 0.1sec in order to attain the benchmark of Gold medals

Paddles will always be faster until you get really good with the shifter.

I use paddle shifters, and I think they are super fast. I can't understand how you could get faster shifting through the gears though. 👍

I think the biggest advantage of using the clutch shifting is to have the "engine braking" effect during the reduction gears.

But you cannot have your foot on the throttle when using the clutch anyway so theres no throttle input for clutch either.

i dont like the fact that you can shift quicker or as quick as clutch in a non paddle car, using clutch used to have advantages over paddles in a non paddle car but it came with a price, you had to take one hand of the wheel to change gear, this proves tricky sometimes especially if you are breaking hard for a corner with zero abs/aids. using paddles you can keep both hands on wheel and not worry, why bother with clutch now, but i will still use it on cars with a stick setup because its realistic and i get a real buzz shifting with the stick shift, especially when downshifting and braking hard for a corner, heel/toe and pulling it off smoothly, great buzz for me.

While that may be true, you can engage the throttle the instant you hit the next gear, with a paddle shifter the game waits until the redline and the grey line match before throttle is allowed.

GT5's problem is that it allows every car to shift as if it has double clutches, which is a ridiculous thing to do. There are few joe public vehicles with double clutches, the Lancer Evo X is such a car, everything else is a super car. They need to patch this crap pronto, you have to be flawless with manual clutch shifting to outshift a paddle shifter in this game, makes having the H shifter a waste. But it feels so awesome to downshift for a turn then heel toe through and back on the gas for the exit.

Let's finger-crossed PD will patch the "shifting time" glitch. Double-clutches gearbox should have some kind of advantage over ordinary ones...

But again, this echos the point that all the technologies & driver's aids are to make your lap times faster, while being a purist in 100% sim mode, all you get is fun (& maybe satisfaction if you pulled off sth awesome)
