Short twisty tracks and wheels

on the short twisty tracks do you guys use a wheel or a controller , just seems to me that on this type of track the times achieved with a wheel seem near impossible , to me anyway :ill:
also what about the use of the hanbrake / e-brake on twisty tracks , do you use it ? if so how do you use it with a wheel like mine dfgt , because everything rotates with the wheel , and its near impossible to operate the e-brake in most circumstances .
Do you alter the wheel settings in options at the beginning of the game , or do you alter the in car wheel settings for these tracks , or do you just leave the settings as they are ? what about ffb , do you reduce this too ? :)

I think the best option is to adjust the steering lock for each track individually. 450 is a good base setting for the DFGT, and on any "real" race track I dont feel you'd need to change it, but tracks like Miami, Ebisu etc become extremely annoying.

I don't know your feelings on helmet cam and "look to apex", but it can definitely help for tight corners. An overlooked problem on tight corners is not being able to actually see the apex, making it extremely hard to "hit".
 
I used to race Shift1 against a guy from Canada, which at one point, held almost all the world records. I won't mention his name, as some friends from those days will probably remember him (not the cleanest and fair racer on-line). He used the e-brake all the time. You could see how he tossed it round all the corners, whether short or long circuits.

He told me one day the only way you can control a car driving in that fashion, is with outomatic gears and lots of practice. He would not say which aids he used or if he had a wheel. It sure made him fast, but to each his own I suppose.

Things have changed with SU2 though. He is still playing, but no way as fast as he used to be. Different physics have made this unrealistic driving more difficult. Would you drive a real world car using the e-brake all the time? NO

I don't change FFB or wheel settings at all for the different tracks (DFGT user as well).

Edit : do you use outamic or manual shifting muso?
 
I've set the steering lock to 360 on my DFGT. I've found it to be a very good all round setting. The only time it may be a bit tricky is when you have a very faint high speed corner.
On the other hand you could change the steering lock of the cars you're using for the specific tracks (in the tuning menu). That might also help.
 
i use 720 degrees with increased steering lock to 34 for every car and i have no problems. There is only one corner in all the game at shangai track that a not able to to do with 720 degrees. The shangai variation from the LE content event lancer vs bmw.

zeeco i use manual shift , just seems to me that on the really tight tracks i cant get the lock on or off quick enough :guilty: so if we ever race on these type of small tight tracks , i'm done for :lol:
 
@ paulpg87: I use a DFGT with the same settings, you just need to rip your wheel more brutally to get round that freakin corner! Make your rig shake! :D
 
what about assists ? i don't use any other than the track line , when i'm learning a new track . i still find the small twisty tracks very annoying to get round with a wheel though :indiff:
 
Some of the corners you just have to jam it in first stay off the gas and make the turn before getting back on the gas.
 
I use a DFGT with the steering lock set at 900 degrees.

What I find works is going into the tuning menu and setting the steering angle to 70.
 
Personally I prefer setting the overall steering lock a bit lower instead of setting the steering lock very high and then having to tune the steering lock of each car so it has a lower steering lock. For my taste 360 degrees is perfect for stock cars. Some cars need some adjustments, but overall I am happy with it. Ofcourse this is personal preference.

I would suggest you take a few stock cars to a track like Spa (with a variety of corner types) and try to find an overall setting that you like. If the steering lock is too low you will have problems in the high speed corners and if it's too high you will notice in the hairpin :)
 
I setup the vehicle with fast acceleration, and over steer, I find in this case (tight turns) hard on the brakes, then hard on the throttle; the over steer will slide you around the corner.

It really depends from a player and his skills. You could be beaten by any wheel if guy is good.
 
enter tuning and boost the wheel lock, on some cars (muscle) I would have as much as 35. inflate the rear tires 10%, this will take some practice, but i find it works for me.

there are other settings but for now, just try this.
