Shorted graphics card?

Hi all,

On my computer I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb. It has 3 outputs, 2 VGA and 1 s-video. One VGA goes to my monitor and up until recently the s-video went to a scart socket at the back of my tv as an extended desktop.

I recently unplugged the scart from the tv while everything was running. On plugging it back in the computer can no longer detect the second display. Manually enabling it does nothing.

Is it possible i have shorted out part of my graphics card when i unplugged the cable? My monitor still works fine.
 
This might sound stupid, but have you tried something simple like re-booting the computer?
 
There's no reason S-video shouldn't be hot-pluggable that I can think of.
Just to clarify, your desktop was extended, not duplicated to the S-video?

If you have another S-video device, you might try using that, to get away from the SCART.
 
It was extended although i have used cloned desktop before.

Unfortunately I don't have an S-video device.
 
Another silly question, but did you update any driver software after you unplugged the s-vid connection?

If yes, roll back the driver to the previous version. If that doesn't work, or is not the case, try updating your Catalyst software to the latest version.

Only after plugging it back in and finding that it didn't work, I updated to the latest catalyst software.
 
Have you tried re-seating the graphics card? If not, and you decide to do that, be sure to turn it off. Graphics cards are not hot-swapable. :D
 
Have you checked the ends of your s-video cable for bent pins?
I've had a problem before where 1 pin was bent but the cable still plugged in, leading to all sorts of diagnostic funkiness until the bent pin was noticed by accident.

I'll try re-seating the card, but it still works perfectly on my normal display so I don't think that's the problem. I'll check the pins too.
