As to the Christmas Theme you see, I think GTP site should be modified in some way for some major holidays, just like what happened for Christmas. Of course the holiday must be popular enough to be celebrated by practically everyone, like Halloween. It doesn't have to be too intensive. It can be as simple as the Christmas lights. We can also develop some sort of competition beforehand so the theme won't have to be completely be based on efforts of the Mods, or whoever created the Themes.

I think someone already mentioned this in one thread so I'm unsure if it was denied. Discuss if you would like to :)

This would be quite good to see but yes the smilies would be a pretty big job.

Do you guys remember a few years back when myself and a few others made more Christmas smilies (still used to this date). Originally Jordan didn't have all the smilies so a few of us chipped in and finished off the list, which Jordan happily used.

If he supports the idea of having more themes I am sure a few of us are more than happy to pitch in with stuff like that.

I'm thinking the same thing.

Problem is, I think time constraints restrict Jordan from editing the website..

There has to be more than one Admin here...
I'm actually the only one, in this context. The forum administrators help moderate the site (and Famine will be helping out with the blog more often in the future), but I handle all of GTPlanet's other responsibilities myself, including the design. This is discussed in a bit more detail here.

I would like to decorate the site for more holidays, but it is unfortunately not a practical undertaking. Creating the graphics, editing templates across all the different software page formats, and cross-browser testing takes hours. Of course, this is all besides the fact that very few holidays are celebrated internationally, and GTPlanet receives visitors from over 200 different countries each month.

That said, I do always tweak the Christmas decorations for New Years (I haven't got around to it yet), and recognized the site's 10th anniversary with a special logo at the beginning of the year.

I was thinking more "internationally friendly" rather then "major holidays". :)

You make a great point. Although the celebration must be widely celebrated and accepted. Wouldn't make sense if we celebrated Juan Ponce De Leon discovering Florida on February.

That's what I was going to bring up. Good call.
