Should I buy new or used??

Evening all.

So, I've been an avid GT player since GT2, but I've always used a controller. I dont expect the wheel to make me better immediately (maybe for MR Cars) but tyre wear is so much better on wheels from what I've seen.

I'm looking around for a decent wheel, probably a G29 or the GT one by thrustmaster. Both quite pricey. Would you insist on a new wheel or would a used be fine?

What should I be aware of when buying used??? Is there anything that usually wears out on wheels??

Also is it essential to get a sim rig frame?? Would a stand that I can use on my sofa be ok??

Cheers

Just aim to get a new one by spending a few more days, weeks or months in earning money and I'm sure it will be worth it.

I'm not that familiar yet with the specifications of the newest gaming wheels in the market but do they still come with the rack-and-pinion setup? Because the problem with used ones is that when steering, wear-and-tear will usually make them noisier compared when they're still fairly new.

So keep that in mind but I guess that shouldn't be an issue anymore if they don't have the rack-and-pinion design. Still, go for the new one as much as possible, unless the used wheel you're looking for is still very fresh and working perfectly.

Don't buy a used T300. The new ones are unreliable as it is.

A used G29 seems sensible as they are generally rock solid. If you find one that looks well cared for then go for it. As for a sim rig. A wheel stand is a good option (WheelStand Pro etc) but the sofa is not generally the best place to sit - you need to be front and centre and as close to your screen as you can get. A sofa is probably unlikely to get you into the right position.

If you can afford a new one it is better to have a warranty on that product, if you buy a used one you don't really know what sort of life the wheel has had. I would avoid buying a used wheel over the internet, unless you know someone well that has a wheel. I have a G29 and they are rock solid and the GT one by thrustmaster was a to much to buy for me, but it all depends on how much money you want to spend.
If you buy a wheel you really need to put it on a wheel stand or buy a Sim rig frame, but a Rig needs a a fare amount of room in your bedroom.
I know some players that have a wheel clamp to a table but when you said this, would a stand that I can use on my sofa be ok, no that is not a good idea.

Thanks for the advise all. Money isnt an issue, but if I could save abit of cash then I would of.

I've seen a fair few on the for sale sites etc, local pick up like a g29 for£80 collection etc

If I need a sim rig it also means I need another tv (another expense). Dont think the missis would appreciate a rig in the middle of the room lol. Also I'm looking at the correct wheels right?? No point in buying a fanatic wheel straight away right??

@kikie I did see this post, but no dates yet, so I assumed it's a while away yet

I think your best bet is a Wheel stand because it is easy to move around, if you have not got the room. The Sim Rig that I got is in the 3rd bedroom, because it needs a bit of room like this below if you want to get one.

See, that's something I'd love. Watch alot of kie, tidgney and super gt.. looks like their setup. Does the seat come with the frame???

It a G29, and it not that old.
Ah I see haha! Pardon for my vision impairment, friend. I thought it was an old DFGT wheel because of the similar red dial there but I wasn't able to take a look on the picture closely until now. My bad.

Another option to the rig/stand would be a playseat challenge. They fold up when not in use and can be stored in a closet
