Since I joined GTP in 2006 (!), I've used this username for almost everywebsite I join. But now I'm realizing that it's not so great. I don't really like MINIs that much, and I'd rather not be affiliated with them for everything I do.

So, I have a decision to make. Do keep my username to maintain my connection to the community (which isn't really too strong anyway - I don't post that much), and to avoid the hassle of gradually changing my name for all the other important website's I'm a part of? Or do I change it to something else? I was thinking of just using my email, dylansan, as I could easily remember it and it's grown on me. MAybe I should come up with something else that is more memorable but still suits me.

What do you think? BTW, I am thinking now that this may be better suited to the premo forum, but I'd actually like to hear from people who don't have the ability to change their name as well as those who can.

Poll will be set up shortly.

As long as the people that post beside you often (in certain sub forums) know who you changed to then I dont think it matters. I almost never see you post so it doesnt matter to me, lets see what other people have to say.

If you feel strongly that you have outgrown it, then by all means change it. If you are worried people won't know who you are after the change, edit your Custom User Title to reflect your old name for a period till members get accustomed to your new name.

The two posts above me sum up what I was going to say...

Interesting points so far. I must admit that I am more concerned with other things, like deviantart or Live For Speed or my PSN id. I mean, I don't have to change these too, but It would be nice. But I think it could be really hard to change those.

If you don't feel connected to the name anymore than I'd definitely change it. To what? That's your decision.

Thanks guys. I've decided to change my GTP username and my deviantart. Gaming ids aren't really that important since I'm not actually creating anything that would be credited with my name, just racing. Plus, I would gain friends based on fun races and people I know here, not my id.

I'm just trying to figure out how to change it.

I just noticed the Poll is out of 110%

I think you should change it at your own will. If you think of an awesome name, then make it that.

This is what I did when I changed my name from Northstar3914. Than again I had only been here for around 5 months at the time.

Whether or not you should change it is up to you. If you don't like it that much change it, just remember you only get 1 a year though.

Shoot Jordan, DA or Duke a PM, I believe.

I just PM'd Jordan when I did it, I would assume it's the fastest.

I'll be changing my username anytime soon. To what, I don't know yet. You're to PM Jordan for name changes.

I actually already PM's Jordan before post 9, but I haven't gotten a response yet. I think he's been busy lately. Or it's because it's 12:20.

I also didn't specifically state what name I'd like, but hopefully he'll get back to me.

For the record, the advised procedure is to choose a new name first, check that your desired new name is available, and then PM an admin requesting the change.

As to whether you should change yours, I reckon you should if that is what you want, but put a note in your sig or user title to indicate that you used to be MINICOOPER120 for a while, for the benefit of those who are less familiar with you. 👍

Change it if you don't like it anymore. just put a "previously known as ..." line in your sig, and most people will know after a while.

edit > oops didn't see Touring Mars' post, well... what he said :)

I'd keep it, just for nostalgia. ;) Unless you really hate it of course. The 'Arosa' part of my name comes from driving the little bugger below, which I sold in 2005. But somehow, I keep using the nickname. :)

Actually, that's almost what I did, except the first PM I sent didn't actually say what username I wanted. I've already requested the name change to dylansan, so hopefully it will happen soon. :)
Edit: It's Official!
