just got a Dazzle capture card last night. I tried it out today for about 20 mins, its pretty cool, extremely easy to use. I need to start gathering good replay footage so I can try to put together a video :D

i was about to get a Dazzle video capturer. was gonna get it on amazon but all the reviewers gave it a 1 out of 5 rating, and no good reviews. so i didn't get one from dazzle...anyone know the reason for so many bad reviews on that product?

my fav capture card is the all-in-wonder and it's cheap now, but that's the only analog one I've used. It worked great on my 440mhz computer back in the day as did most basic editing progs. Windows movie maker will do the job easily and compress the videos well. S-video will also do a world of difference, but I have yet to buy the cable...

Now I phoned a guy here in town about the thing, and he said he didn't know if the PS2 signaled the right signale or something like that, I think HE thought that the Dazzle couldn't read the PS2 signales, anyway I'm sure it can now, but can you explain in a few brief steps, how it works and where you plug it in:)??

Im looking for some way to record game vids as well and was wondering what the best, cheap option is. Ive got a laptop so any internal card wouldnt work for me. I read that review above, would that be a good choice for my particular setup or is there something cheaper that would do what im wanting to do (just record game vids)

Only practical thing I've seen so far is the Dazzle and now this USB thingie:) Just get it if you understand a bit what that link says, it sounds pretty good. I don't really judge these things very good, so don't really trust my comment, but sure it sounds good:tup:

well you go and install all the software for it first, then when you plug in the USB plug your system automatically recognizes it as the dazzle video thing. you have to tell the program if youre using standard or s-video inputs, it took me a minute to figure it out (i could hear the sound from the ps2 but no video feed) there is a little window open that you can view what youre doing on the ps2, so you can navigate menus and load up your replays while being hooked up to your computer.

I have not worked with any of the editing yet. i just did a practice capture to see how it worked...quality came out just OK, i also have not played around with that or any other compression settings, but it claims to be able to do all that kind of stuff. I need to rip some mp3's to try and put them with the video clips.

I think i paid $70 for it at best buy. someone else said they got theirs cheap on ebay and im an infrequent ebay-o-holic so I kicked myself for forgetting to check there but oh well i have the card :D

Thanks:sly::tup:And, it may sound stupid, but do you have to have it connected to the PS2 and the computer at the same time? Or can you connect it to your PS2 first and then to your computer? Because I have my computer stand in another room:indiff:

Edit: I might have been to unclear, realising now, I need a sort of memory card or something just to walk from the PS2 to my computer, I KNOW IT'S BRINGING UP problem all the time, but I'm sorry I haven't mensioned this a bit earlier:guilty: But I forgot it myself so.....:banghead::banghead:

do you intend of having some kind of kabel that lets you watch your ps2 on both your pc and your tv ?? if you dont then the pc is my best bet !!

Anyone else get sound static with their capture cards when the car zooms by in the replays close to the camera? I picked up my generic vid card from Ebay for $35 and it works pretty good other than the errant static noise in close up shots.

I always watch the PC and the TV at the same time. Also when I record videos I can play on the TV at the same time I am recording on the PC. 👍

well you can do all the racing you want and save the replays, when it comes time to transfer to the computer i just hook the ps2 right next to it and replay them, but i guess you could get a usb extension cable or a/v extension cable. however then you would have to walk to the next room (or wherever the computer is) to start or stop the capture..

but yes, you have to be plugged into your computer for this software to work.

Now I've gotta say that I knew you guys were helpfull, but I >NEVER<>NEVER< expected so much help from you guys, so already thanks for that. And for the people that have seen me asking questions about the DFP in the GT4 general section, I asked alot in about a month, but I eventually bought it so..........I eventually AM gonna buy that capture thingie WHATEVER reason stops me from buying it now(money problems at this point)

Anyway, does that bring somekind of problem then, like I must look at the TV for knowing when to stop recording at my comp. Cause I can't see the TV from here.

But in school, there was somebody in my class that was talking about the same thing: getting some vids. of the PS2 to the computer, and he says he thought you could do it with a simple memory USB stick, like a MP3 player (if you know that thing, something you can bring along when cycling to school or something, THAT thing)

Your welcome for the help. FOr most of us here at GTP it isnt a problem to help other people. It just makes us even more happier when it is appreciated. 👍

No you dont need to see your TV. All of the recording is on the PC.

Your friend at school is also correct. If you have any existing videos they can be inserted into the software program. So to answer your friends question. Yes you can use the flashdrive to put vids on your comp without seeing your television. I think thats what 194GVan was also trying to say.

yeah, the included software with the dazzle capture device provides a little window that you can view whats being displayed from the PS2, so you can navigate through menus, load up replays, or maybe even run some practice laps while recording. so like Camaroboy69 said you will not need your tv, just a computer.

however, i dont think you can save replays from the game directly onto a USB stick. even if you could i dont think they would be a format that your computer could recognize. hence the need for a video capture device/card

So: Dazzle vs USB stick..............mmm..............I'm going for the dazzle I think (at this point, I may change my opinion later) since that thing is really made for it, and the USB thing is more like storing things in general.

And I know it wasn't a problem for you to help, but sometimes the posting and helping just stops......................so thanks for REALLY >keep on< trying to help:sly:

I just thought of one last option that you could do since your PS2 is in another room. You could save your replay on the PS2 memory card. Then bring your PS2 into the same room as your PC. No TV necessary. Then just plug your PS2 RCA cables into the dazzle (or S-video if you have them). Next you could just play your replay and record it. Again, no TV necessary since you will be watching it thru the PC monitor. This will get you by until you get a USB stick aka flash drive.

And by the way, those RCA cables are three aren't they, white, red, and yellow am I correct? Just to clear it up
That is correct. Look at this pic of the Dazzle and you can see the white yellow and red holes.
Here is another pic Dazzle pic 2
My Dazzle is black.

Edit: So: The black cable plugs into your computer, and an aditional RCA cable plugs from the PS2 to the Dazzle. But do you get that RCA cable also with it?

G-T-4-Fan
Yep, I see, and the Dazzle doesn't need a cable to connect it to your computer right, it just plugs DIRECTLY in your computer.

Also, what I've read is that the Dazzle contains software with it, but does it ALSO have that RCA cable with it?
I just posted a new pic in the above thread called Dazzle pic 2. It shows the enitre dazzle and the USB cord that is attached.
You will plug your RCA cables directly into it from your PS2.

Ow stupid:banghead: The RCA cable is already on the PS2:dunce:

mines the Dazzle Digital Video Creator 80 and its black. They had the 90 that Camaroboy69 posted above on best buys website, but only had the 80 at the store. Same price. There Is also a Dazzle DVC 150 that costs about twice as much as the 80. Not too sure about the differences though, out of my price range.

I dont have school tonight, so I am going to make a conscious effort to play around with the program for a while, maybe capture an average drift lap at trial mountain and make a simple first video. will keep you guys posted.
