should I wait for PS3 or get PS2

I unfortunately don't have a Playstation 2 yet...and I was wondering if it is even worth it now. Rumor has it that PS3 is going to be released in May of 2005...So is it worth investing the money in the PS2? or waiting for PS3 and putting the money that was going towards the PS2 towards the ps3?


Is this confirmed? I've heard 2 rumors...One sayign 2006 and one saying 2005...Also heard one say Late late 2005 might as well be 2006..Does anyone have any ideas? and could post proof of that date?
 
It won't be released that early. Although I wouldn't doubt it'll be showcased in some form at E3 that month.
 
PS3 will be on store shelves only around the end of 2005 in Japan and early 2006 in America, so there's time to wait. And the PS3 will probably cost many $$$$ ( around 500-600 $ I guess) so you better have the cash. Plus, the good games will come later (GT5 anyone). And the PS2 is a good console with a solid games library, among them is GT3 an 4. If I was you, I'd buy a PS2, it's cheaper than ever and still good.

Actually, I believe it's early '06 in Japan and late '06 in the U.S. Xbox is the one that's coming late '05, not PS3. PS3 will, however, be unveiled at or around E3, April or May of '05.

So you've got a while to wait, either way.. might as well get a PS2.
 
hey man, you might as well get a PS2....one day it will be considered "Old Skool" and it will be worth sentimental value plus u still got GT4 on it so its worth it....PS3 wont be here for a while and it will cost lots of money....u gonna need something to carry u over so just buy a PS2!
 
my friend recieves game informer and there was a page for X Box 2 and it is basically a Macintosh G5, maybe G4, but whatever macintoshs fastes computer is. im not sure how to word it, it has the same power as the G5. I remember reading that it has dual processors something like 3 GHZ total. Now that is insane for a console! Nothing was really said about PS3 except they have been designing it since late 03.

Read up a bit... PS3 is waaaaay beyond Xbox2. Microsoft is making the Xbox2 a more powerful Xbox, is all they're doing.. bigger, better, badder. The PS3 is all-new technology, far more advanced, and far more powerful. 3GHz may be "insane" for a console, but I believe the PS3 is at least triple that fast.
 
the ps3 will be showcased next year and probably be released some time mid 2006 Japan and late 2006 for America and Europe, dont miss out on gt4 its guna be sweet, get your self a ps2 and play play PLAY!!!! :)

Ok......XBOX is not basically a G5 its just basically a regular desktop computer with some highend components , one of these being an ATI R520 graphics chip which is gonna be very powerfull (easily more power full than the average users videocard)and i think a 4.0ghz processor. This is gonna cause some kickass graphics ........but Nvidia just joined the IBM/TOSHIBA/SONY bandwagon and there creating some crazy graphics processor....on top of that there gonna be using something called cell (or grid im not sure) technology allowing multiple appliances to share computing power meaning expandabilty later on for better graphics :)

Man i cant wait for XBOX2 and PS3:dopey:
 
You should just get a PS2 now. It's not that expensive these days for one :) And there's a chance Sony may release a GT4 package to all regions in the world, so it'll be a good buy if it's available :)
 
I sold my PS2 couple of weeks ago(relax, I got my brothers' PSTwo), because the new model is smaller than the original PS2 I had and also comes with progressive scan and Network capability to play games online.

Unfortunately, when I went out to buy the new one, they were all soldout and backordered, due to the holiday demand. So, I recommend waiting until GT4 comesout in month or two(yeah, don't quote me on that), and see if Sony will package it with the new playstation. That's my gameplan anyway! P.S. If the package included the white console, I will forgive Sony for the GT4 delay and stay loyal to PlayStation forever.
 
Get a PS2. The PS3 won't be out in japan until Q1 2006.

And I must say, the from a technical standpoint the PS3 will rock.
Current Specs:
CPU: Sony/Toshiba/IBM 'Cell'- 64bit PowerPC based core. Multi-core, Multi-threading and DRM.
Memory: Rambus- XDR DRAM 256 Mbit?
GPU: Nvidia- based on GeForce architecture
Media: Sony- Blu-Ray 54GB dual layer BD-ROM, 30GB single layer BD-ROM

That stuff is all pretty definite. The idea of cell procesors in different devices working together to improve graphics is pretty far fetched, and not practical. It won't happen. The PS3 hardware will be shown at E3 05. Interestingly, the xbox 2 looks to be using a tripple core PowerPC procesor running each running at 3.5ghz. So, in that area it is very similar to the PS3. It will also have a GPU created by ATI. It is likely that the base model WILL NOT feature a hard drive. I don't think the PS3 will have a hard drive either.

EDIT: one other interesting thing... The X box 2 is probably going to use a standard DVD media. So that means 6gb on the bbox compared to 54gb for the PS3.

I'd wait.. No reason to get a PS2.. I'm considering selling mine so I can start waiting for the PS3 to arrive.. Shouldn't be more than 18 months or so...
 
Get a PS2. Or even an XBOX. You need something to do :D while PS3 arrives :D -i guess you like videogames, if not, why to post here ;) -

Nvidia has been on the Sony bandwagon since the start of the PS3's development, It just was never public knowledge intill recently.
 
If you want to play GTA San Andreas or GT4 when it comes out then get a PS2.. If your not bothered about either of those games dont bother, theres nothing else decent in the pipeline for the PS2 as far as I can see.

the new Xbox2 better be easy to hack..... the current one rock cuz of all those homebrew software for it.

games are nothing too impressive for the xbox anyways

If it was early 2005, it would worth the wait, but unfortuneately......it not. As Flerbizky said, expect 18 months of waiting...
 
PS3 is comming quite far. Go and own a ps2, GT4 when it comes and lap at the ring as more as u can. U wouldn´t even notice when PS3 has arrived. :D
 
Hey guys I just have a question, I dont really know anything about XBOX 2 I just wanna know if its going to be better than the PS3????
