should I wait for PS3 or get PS2

ATi>nVIDIA
Not really, recently ATI got there "rear ends" handed to them in a silver platter by Nvidia. Nvidia's 6800 line PWNED the X800's.....the only exception being the X800XTPE. But ATI is gonna be back on top soon, with there new X800's and X850's. So....Nvidia > ATI right now but soon it will be ATI > Nvidia.
Its gonna be like this for awhile. And regardless PS3 will be the fastest and most advanced technologically of the 2 consoles.:)

And regardless PS3 will be the fastest and most advanced technologically of the 2 consoles.

I'm sorry, but care to show some 100% official specs and real performance examples that back your claim up? Hell I'm not saying it couldn't be, but don't start blabber mouthing off, until we see some evidence.

Oh come off it, it's not like you will be able to connect your ps3 to your microwave, if it had cell technology and use it as a power to boost to get more performance. That's ridiculous fan boy drivel, you know, I know it. Consoles are CLOSED systems, the idea being that they all run as fast as the next same console. Those links you gave are hardly official either, and we all know what companies are like for hyping up the "UB3R POWER" of their consoles, sony especially with their unusable emotion engine.

It might actually be official because Sony just patented the Cell technology, i never meant microwaves........maybe you should use common sense next time, what i meant was something like a card or maybe another ps2 or some sort of peripheral. Once again senseless jiberish....... Im no where near a fanboy... I currently own both systems and both have there strong points. But Xbox right now has the better graphics. I wish i could merge the graphics of Xbox with the games and controller of ps2........oh and halo... that'd be sweet.:sly:

In all honesty, if you're strapped for cash you could just wait for the PS3 to come out and borrow someone's PS2 and all their games. I plan on lending out my stuff when the next round of consoles comes along and I imagine other people will be doing the same. I've seen it happen every generation starting with the NES.

If I was you, I'd buy a PS2, because if PS3 gets delayed as often as GT4 did, you'd have to wait a loooong long time...

seriously though, the whole reason i posted was to ask... does anyone remember if PS2 was delayed or not while awaiting its release? I didnt get a PS2 until a year or 2 after it actually came out. By getting that answer, hopefully I will know whether or not to trust Sony with PS release dates

There are questions with definite answers, such as "is GT4 going to be released at all?" Then those without definite answers, such as "which came first, the chicken or the egg?" This one, let me see...

First off, I think this is probably a topic that should have been moved to the Playstation 2 forums. Second off, I can say this. GT4 is going to be released well before the PS3 even makes it to stores. Treat this like a fashion trend. [Still] In fashion is the PS2. The next "trend" is the PS3. If you're reluctant to play PS2 games, get the PS2 for Christmas. It's $149.99, so there's no excuse not to afford one unless you don't have parents to mooch on for money or your job doesn't pay enough. In fact, I'm not concerned about the PS3 RIGHT NOW. What I am looking forward to is GT4, then see the PS3 in E3 coverage or something, then look to see if I'll sell my PS2 and get a PS3.

So while my advice isn't perfect or trustworthy, that's my suggestion to you. Take it or leave it. You call the shots. You're in charge of your own trance party. Decide for yourself.

Damn Code - You NEVER fail to impress me with your complete lack of common sense..

The emotion engine is famous for being hard to use.

Under powered and over hyped, I remember all the crap they said about it's AI etc years ago, and it ended up being a next to useless over complex chip, that doesn't have any of these amazing AI features they bragged about. Not to mention that it.s about 10 times harder to get decent results with then anything else (anything else being ther xbox and GC).

"If you’re going to develop a tricky, unorthodox machine, offer no help to the community who are making games that show off your system is capable of, and then complain when the machine is under-used, the blame is on you, not them. The fact is, if Sony wants developers to use the PS2’s features more efficiently, it’d be wise to show them how to do it, not simply tell them they should. "

Oh looks like it's not me who's lacking common sense.

:sly: Why not get both? Think about it for a 'sec. There's almost NO chance of the PS3 coming out next year (sure, it'll be seen, maybe even playable at E3, but that doesn't mean anything), no ifs', ands', or buts' about it. Whether Nintendo or (more likely) Microsoft release their new machines next year will not be on Sony's mind. What WILL be on their mind, however, is the marketbility of the PS2. Much like what they did with the original PlayStation, Sony's going to try and milk every single last dime, nickel, and penny that they can out of the PS2 market, and when that same money starts dwindling to very low point, then and ONLY then will the PS3 likely make it's debut (and while we're at it, let's not forget that GT4, Sony's big game of the PS2 life cycle, will be coming out in early/mid 2005 here, and while that may not make an impact on the PS3 releasing in Japan in '05, it does signal that it's release here in '05 is slim to none). Even if that's false (and there's a very good likelihood that I am wrong on that), then there's always the PSP. Sony seems focused on trying to make the PSP as much of a success as it can possibly be, and they can't do that if they also have to look after the viability of another major system. For this reason, I feel as though 2005 will be the year of the PSP (whatnot with it getting most of Sony's support), and 2006 will be the year of the PS3, and both console sharing nearly the same spotlight (with the PS3 obviously getting just a bit more) from there on out. And lastly, you have to take into mind that the PlayStation 1's lifespan (before it's successor) was actually more than five years. Why do I say that? Because the PS1 launched in Japan in 1994, not 1995. If the PS2 follows the same life window, expect it to hold on 2005 without a successor, and finally the PS3 releasing the following year. So, all things considered, just get both. 'Ya never know. :sly:

The emotion engine is famous for being hard to use.
I think you need to read the article once again Code.. The emotion engine is doing all the work because the Twin Vector units ISN'T being used - Those are quite tricky.. the Emotion engine is the easy part.. But you knew that of course - You just quoted yourself wrong.....

And when has "being hard to use" EVER been a valid excuse ?.. Ever coded an OS for anything x86 compatible Code ?... The PC isn't easy to do low level code for.... Been there, done that, never saw the T-Shirt.....

Under powered and over hyped, I remember all the crap they said about it's AI etc years ago, and it ended up being a next to useless over complex chip, that doesn't have any of these amazing AI features they bragged about.
Again Code - Reread the article - It's because they don't actually USE the chips that can enhance the AI.....

Not to mention that it's about 10 times harder to get decent results with then anything else (anything else being ther xbox and GC).
Being hard to use is still no excuse.....

Oh looks like it's not me who's lacking common sense.

I think I'll just let that one stand by itself for a minute... Looks quite nice in this light....

its your darn money do what you want with it stop wasting space with stupid threads like this
And your post certainly ISN'T waste of bandwidth.... retard...

Flerbizky I know, it's under powered because that chip has to do EVERYTHING usually. If your gonna rely on it to do so much, wouldn't it have made more sense to make it more powerful? Or put some kind of 3d hardware on....cough. Ok so i was abit wrong, I kinda forgot about those vector units (lame as it sounds, I was aware of them, but was on a flame crusade, so they kinda slipped my mind :dunce: ), but the fact remains, it's a pain in the arse for devs, and the fact also remains that the emotion engine hardly bought along with it the "UB3R EMOTI0N" in games that sony made out it would.

ps. You smell.

I imagine the "faults" in the emotion engine are because it's working alone. If it's handling things that should be done by the vector units, then it can't do any of the "fancy stuff" that it was supposed to do. The reason why they didn't make it more powerful to compensate is because it was never their intention to have the EE doing everything.

Judging by what we've seen of GT4, though, I imagine that game is using everything the PS2 has. PD's never been known for holding back.

Look.. Code... I'm sure you take great pride in being an annoying *****, but it doesn't HELP.. You're still wrong.. There's LOTS of amazing games for the PS2. Do you think those developers GUESSED they had the Vector Units ?... Anything is available from Sony - if they think you're worth it.. Small anecdote - Many many moons ago, I had a pretty high tech Sony tape deck which wasn't officially imported to europe. It broke.. Sony Denmark knew nothing of it, and neither of any tech manual.. But a few emails to Sony Japan got me the info I needed - In english..... So the lack of instructions is NO excuse...

And bear with me on this - but I'm guessing, that a lot of the (self called) Developers that only got the info in japanese, just didn't want it in english bad enough. Lord knows tons of (self called) Developers only "develops" for a succesful platform.. And YOU know the PS2 is just that.... If you can't handle whatever plaform you're developing for, find something else where you're lack of skill isn't as obvious...

With a slight chance of repeating myself - "It being hard to code for is no excuse".. call it bad because you lack skill - Guess who looks stupid now....

ps. You smell.
That's a personal attack and I'm telling the mods......

I'm sure that'll help your relationship with the rest of GTP....

I'm speechless.. Literally lost for words...... I'm mean - One can be as clever as me**, and yet, I'm beaten. Belittled by this amazing intellect......

Uh oh...looks like someone left the nursery door open again and a child escaped.

So anyway, just wanted to say that I beg to differ about Xbox having better graphics as they simply appear to have blurred the jagged edges, thus making it look like you're playing through a dirty TV screen.

I'm currently facing a similar quandry about the PS2/PS3 as my launch model PS2 is really starting to show its age. It's certainly a little depressing about there being no interesting games coming up other than GT4 but the amount of time before we get the PS3 is so great that I suppose there's no option but to shell out for another PS2.

Anyway hopefully there will be no 'complicated coding' issues with the PS3 and we can all live in peace and harmony. Ahem.

Sorry for cutting your sentence, but the PS3 will be even harder to code for than the PS2.. of course, again, this all depends on Sonys Developer kit ;)

Flerbizky, when I said you smelt, I meant it in a good way, please don't tell the mods, oh please please please!!!!1111!!! If you tell the mods, I shall unleash my h4x on you that I got if this guy while I was playing counter strike. I'll aim bot your system! OH PWEASE!!!!

*beg beg beg*

You smelly person, when did I say otherwise? I like my ps2.
Flurbiskuit, I win. And the things I said about it being hard to dev games for, I was right.

Anyways, SuntoucherUK, play it though a scart cable :P. Razor sharp.

p.s you smell (aimed at Flurbiskuit)

I also second getting a cube, great machine.

Total BS. If the specs for the Xbox 2 pan out, wow. thats one incredibly powerful machine. I don't think the cell processor will match up with it unless it has three cores as well.
