Should PD have Skipped Out on the Rain Settings?

As much as I enjoy racing in the rain and experiencing environmental aspects affecting a race, I think PD should have saved the climate effect for a latter GT title. I' am just not impressed with the climate effects and think they were not up to par as say Project Gotham Racing 4. The rain droplets look like pixels as someone mentioned before and are just plain boring. Even the racing soft tires work just as well as the ran tires. One thing I enjoy with GT5 is the day time effects on a track, but i think they should have focused on 24 hour change of time for all tracks because that would be amazing. Yes there are flaws with the headlights and seeing in the dark but that can be easily fixed. I am interested to see what people think about this.

I think the rain was a nice touch, but it could be fixed up, before it's just right.

Yeah the rain effects from the cockpit are very poor compared to other games, and the tracks themselves never look wet.

But hey, it bumped the track count up.

Well since people have been saying that for a long time about the racing softs hopefully PD has fixed this issue. Crossing fingers.

I remember in GT3 where a few night tracks were wet and they seemed to feel real and look pretty good from the light reflection and you could actually see dry tire marks on the wet track.

I personally think the change of weather and change of time are excellent additions to the GT series.... of course not everyone is going to be happy with them and will find something to be upset about... but i think they did a great job...

as far as headlights are concerned... they differ depending on the car that you are driving... some have great headlights and others are poor just like in real life... i don't see a problem there... and as for the rain... well it is very evident that the rain does have an impact on the driving... you can see the standing water that gathers more in different parts of the track.... and handling is appropriately different as a result...

it doesn't get any better than having an online race with your buddies on the 24hr nurburgring with weather and time change.... it's super addictive and i for one can't get enough of our races (with stock no mod races) :-)

It's the first outing for the dynamic weather so it's not amazing, but passable.

I'd really like to see a level of weather on par with Codemasters' F1 2010. Although there were issues with that game as far as the amount of water on the track vs. amount of grip, they really did a fantastic job with the visual aspect.

Whenever I play a racing game without full weather uncertainty, like F1 2010, it just feels like I'm missing out a bit now.

Just to clarify I enjoy the actual driving in GT5 more than F12010, but after you do a 50% distance multiplayer race at Spa, with the rain clouds emptying and the sun eventually coming out as you rocket through Eau Rouge, GT feels a little vanilla.

Project Gotham Racing 4 = 30 fps.
Codemasters' F1 2010 = 30fps.

Don't start asking too much or you'll turn GT6 into a 30fps game too.

By this logic, Kaz should put an option in to disable the anti-aliasing to boost the frame rate but that would make the cardboard trees and people just look that much worse... the rain and smoke still look like garbage with it on anyways.

I have to agree that i dont think the rain effects are that great when its fully wet but it looks pretty good when only raining lightly. it would be nice if the tracks looked wet as well. For some reason that effect has only been implemented on ssr7 and one of the braking licence tests.................looks great as well, just a shame the track doesnt look like that on any of the other tracks

Have to agree on some of the comments about f12010 weather, at times it looked spectacular

So you wanted 120fps?

Both games mentioned, PGR and F1 2010 are heavy with shaders for those awesome weather effects, and thats why they're 30fps. You'll NEVER see them on a 60fps on this generation of hardware.

No. I didn't like how Tsukuba was the only wet track in GT4, so having more wet tracks in this edition is a plus for me. Also I don't think the rain droplets look so bad.

The droplets look bad, but I think it's amazing how they react to the car movement and how each droplets reflects light at night

This game only peaks at 60fps as it is, start a 12 or 16 premium car race and while the cars are bunched up together on the first lap don't tell me it's anywhere near 60fps constant. There are always tradeoffs.

Depends on the tracks and conditions. Saying it "peaks" at 60fps is less of a truth then saying it's "60fps". The game actually does play at 60fps most of the time. But yeah, it can go as low as 40.

*edit* Oh, and it tears like mad.

The thing I find dumb is that you can drive better with racing softs than with the rain tires, because I think that the "rain" effect has to be combined with the rain tires to be "accurate".

I also think it's dumb that you can turn on and off your wipers at will when it's fair or sunny but you can't turn them off when it rains... talk about a "simulator"...

Seems like there's less fan boyizm' as the months pass. I've actually stopped my fan boyizm' in mid december.
