Should there be a paint Shop in GT4?

...or u have to choose a number (on ur car) to differentiate the players!!
..then i would like to have the No:7,17,1 or3 on my car!!:)
...would u like to have a paint shop in which u can paint the body of every single car as u do it in some PC games or would u like to have "PAINT-BODY-KITS" which would allow(as in NFS-U)to make another colour(than the basic) at the rear of the car for example???
the second version would be a kind of rear/front-bumper and right/left-side painting!

I would like race cars to be minutly paintable, like if you want to change thte number or put your name really small on the side, any major modifications would really slow down online play, Thats why I think body kits arent going to happen.

As much as I just love the idea of a paintshop. Writing a team name or maybe a web address would be cool. or writing "if you can read this, I'm winning" on the rear bumper.

I'm worried about certain things however.

Will it demish texture quality?

If a # decal is allowed, is anyone expecting a lot of 69s and 666s? Those sad sad pubescent boys.

And also, anyone have a link to more details/screenshots of this feature?

i think the paintshop should have the standard RGB color palatte setup, that means your car could be virtually any color you can think of, if TXR can do it, why couldn't GT4?

as for Decals, the ability to make them and put them on your car would be nice, and it would be nicer if you could actually create them on your computer(Photoshop anyone?) and then email them to your PS2 (or something) and really, it will help to organise teams better if your entire team could sport the same logo, but there should be a limit as to how many and how big the Decals are(if just to conserve the speed of online play)

Even If you only have a 3 letter limit to what you can have on teh side/back of your car it would be worthwhile. And I'm sure it wouldn't have too much of an effect on online speed and texture quality.

I think maybe they should rip off the sponsor option from Kaido Battle, then at least the decals would be for some use. What would happen is you unlock a sponsor challenge which is some race or time trial, or licence test. When you pass it you are able to be sponsored by that company, so if you run the race with that sponsors decal on your car you get an extra bit of cash if you win. Paintshop coupled with the racemod would mean we could probably have sortof identifyable cars in the online mode. Although I can see some manufacturers having a problem with changing your cars colour to a non manufacturer one, although it's been done in other games with real cars so I don't see why not in GT4.

yeah if you could get sponsered and they would give you parts and pay you for winning that would be SICK, you get sponsored you get decals.

ENDLESS, HKS, FALKEN, NISMO.....you know you'd love it.

having M.McDonald on my car would be sick too. along with SDG(see quote).

I just noticed Race Idiot your avatar is the chelsea FC logo i just saw them play celtic up here in seattle a few weeks ago, great stuff man. Celsea won 4-1 I believe. w00t chelsea, but my favorite team is arsenal mostly because they used to be sponsored by sega and had jerseys with Dreamcast plastered all over them that was sooooo cool. and thier name is arsenal, I dunno just sounds cool.

Why would anyone NOT want a paint shop in GT4? I guess I'm kinda confused about why this is even a question??????

This thread is more about how the paint shop should be. I'd like to make my own color schemes, add decals. This way you could make team colors. Just like the distinct Yellow/Green-White on the Takata NSX.

Don't ask, I think Viper just oversimplified more than he normally does. Personalisation doesn't always have to equal rice, individuality is good.

There are no screenshots or anything else of Paint Shop available, we're just going off announcements made at E3.

in my Opinion, there are 4 types of Car enthuisiests

1: people who try to make their car loud (DB Drags/soundsystems)
2: people who try to make their car look good (car shows)
3: people who try to make their car Fast (engine/suspension)
4: people who try to make their car *look* fast (read: ricers)

the only typ ei can't respect are the 4th one, but it is still possible to have Decal sand body kits without being Rice, you just have to learn to combine functional with fashion(and some Decals are functional, they promote sponsors and/or teams)

Well, again. Don't assume that just because people have a chance to stylize their cars anyway they see fit that it's "ricing" out your car. I tend to get tired of that word, but it's a mainstay car term. So what? Putting two racing stripes across a 1969 Camaro is rice?

As I've said before, I'm an art person, so I can tend to appreciate WHY a person wants to stylize their car instead of just stylizing. And personally, I don't want to make my car look the same basically. My favorite color is blue, my favorite car color is red (like Eagle's favorite color for his "team"). So there should be a mode to modify your car's cosmetics as far as how the car is designed. Someone mentioned the NASCAR Racing series. And in fact, it's probably the best one. Almost anything you put onto it will be guaranteed to be in the game. Only thing you had to worry about is if it would show correctly. For some PC games, you have to find some software to access the files with the cars, extract the bitmaps, modify them correctly, then import those changed bitmaps, and then compile the car data back together. With the game "Sports Car GT," I had to make what we call "standalone" cars, so that we can have a car modified successfully without having to simply modify a car's looks off the bat.

So PD would have to come up with a special system to make the Paint Shop work to perfection, or near perfection. I would suggest being able to purchase more than 20 "starter kits" to provide bases as to how to paint up a car. If possible, maybe a total of 200 different car "starter" ideas so that you can perhaps be able to complete your designs better. And let's say that with those, you can probably save 25 or even 50 different designs you've saved.

I completely agree. If I'm not mistaken, but didn't the 1967 Camaro Z/28 have 2 stripes that came with the car stock? That was not ricing at all.

That's what I was getting at. Personalization doesn't necessitate anything inherantly negative.

No that's not rice. If it had an ugly huge wing and an ugly body kit that isn't functional, then that's rice.

(read: Personalisation is what helped the NFS series sell out)
I think you mean NFSU game to sell out. But that will probably help the NFSU2 as well. I miss EA's old racing days.

I rented NFS:Hot Pursuit 2 a few days ago. That game was the suX0rs.
I want more good racing titles. I want my GT4 and a ricey counterpart. I loved NFSU. Despite how angry I got at some of the ****tier parts, I still enjoyed having my stupidly ricey cars with a variety of finishes.

Thank you eagle, I am famous for my paint shop pro skills, nothing like a using a program to it's utter limits eh, I couldn't to art like this using paintbrush.

I am going to say maybe here. I am still a bit skeptical after reading all the replies, and I am going to really have to see it to see if I will change my mind.
