I played the new Forza at a friend's house (interesting and different career mode, and they have the La Ferrari and F12, color me jealous) and the controller is set up for R2/brake and R1/accelerate. I tried this in GT6 today and liked it. Do any of you guys use this controller setup?

(Disclaimer: Yes, I'm an AT guy, and I haven't unpacked my wheel/pedals yet, so still playing around with the controller.)

Yup I use it all the time. Started in GT5 and also use the plastic trigger extensions which give you more precise modulation of the brake and throttle.

I like using L2 and R2 for accelerator and brake, but it royally messes up my gear changing. I don't have the dexterity! So if I use a DS3, it's back to the analogue sticks :indiff:

Same setup, but I switched to using right stick up/down for shifting. Works great.

I use a Wired XBox 360 controller for Windows with a USB adapter for use with the PS3. The triggers are why I do this. The triggers give a long throw so it's easy to modulate throttle and brake. The right stick as well as X (down) and SQUARE (up) are used for gear shifting, TRIANGLE for Reverse, CIRCLE for EBrake, R3 for rear view, L3 for the RA Menu with the rest of the RA menus navigation set to the control cross, L1 for Nitrous, R1 for Ghost on/off, Select for changing my driving view. I drive with all driving aids off and find this configuration gives me the most control.

I use R2 and L2 on my controller as well, though I use □ as gear up, and ○ as gear down.

R2 for braking but right stick for acceleration with r1 for upshift and square for downshifts. How I ended up there I have no idea, but it works well.

L2 for braking and R2 for throttle seems to be the best set up on the controller. I also use square for downshifting and triangle to shift up. But, everyone has different preferences.

When i don't have the time to mount my G27 i use the pad with this configuration:

L2 = Brake
R2 = Accelerator
Right thumb up = shift up
Tight thumb down = shift down

I've tried many button configs and this is the most confortable for me.

My pad loadout works pretty well for me,,

L2 - Brake
R2 - Accelerate
L3 - RA Menu
D Pad - RA navigate and adjust
Circle - Handbrake
Square - Nitrous
Triangle - Reverse
R Stick up - Gear Up
R Stick Down - Gear Down

L1 - Look Behind
X - Horn
R1 - Toggle Lights
R stick Left/Right - Look around

I didn't see any point to mapping the wipers, as they are completely automatic, and you can't switch them off in the rain anyway

It always surprises me when a thread like this pops up, using L2/R2 feels so natural and logical to me that I can not understand how someone can use the right stick or the X/Square button for acceleration and brakes. Glad that we can freely map the controls.

I use X for up shift and square for down shifting.

X accl. SQUARE brakes, R2 upshif L2 downshift. original gt beotches. all the buttons are pressure sensitive. GOML.

I was a long time Forza player so:

L2: Brake
R2: Accel
Circle: Upshift
Square: Downshift
X: Handbrake

Now if only I could use the 360 pad instead of the DS3 to replace the POS triggers, the left stick on the 360 was better placed and had better control too, I find the DS3 way too soft and wobbly with more range, I find it much harder to correct oversteer with.

I might give them 99p clip on triggers a try see how that goes...

I use x/square and i'm fast. Top 100 TT fast. It's just a matter of preference, I feel I can use my thumb to hover over both, using two hands for throttle and brake just doesn't give me a heel and toe instant action feel.

R2 Acceleration
L2 Brake
L1 Gear Up
R1 Gear Down.

Been using this set up for as loooong as i can remember, i guess since ps1

I don't think it's anything to do with how fast you are, a lot of proper fast racers can be fast with pure digital accel / brake and get by with just tapping it when needed.

If it works for you, then all power to you. I used the same "thump technique" in the old GTs but I never want to go back.
