Shouldnt the "Final Gear" be the same thing as the "Top Speed"

Ok I hadn't paid much attention to the transmission adjustments in gt5, but up until now eveytime I changed the top speed I thought I was changing the final gear.

Now you can adjust both.

What is the top speed setting equivelent in real life? ANd what does it do in gt5 compared to the final gear?

If "top speed" setting is still a quick auto-tune that adjusts all gears for you... then "final drive" should be in place for custom tunes where you decide your own gearing. Just make sure your last gear reaches the limit of your final gear if you go custom.

Well when changing the gears using top speed you are setting the gears with a set top speed that PD gives you.Example 146,155,164 and so on.

With the final gear setting you can set it to what you think the best top speed of the car should be.Then after that you go and adjust the individual gears to your liking.

Think of final gear as modifier for every other gear. The engine spins the drive axle according the gear ratio in the transmission, once transferred to the drive axle, the differential further manipulates the ratio of wheel rotation per drive shaft revolution.

The "final gear" is much (like budious said) like changing the differential gear in real life.

The top speed setting is like replacing the entire transmission with one with wider (higher top speed) or closer (lower top speed) ratios. Decreasing final drive will make all gears longer while they're still the same distance apart (RPM drops the same amount), increasing "top speed" will make 1st only slightly longer and space the gears out more (more RPM drop when shifting).

If you remmembered from GT4; Top Speed setting= auto setting @GT4
Not saying that your wrong or anything:dopey:

I've known that for ages. :p

It's even got the same number of "steps"; 25. ;) This is why I hated the fact we couldn't adjust individual ratios; it's the same system as always.
