Hi guys,

Not sure if this is the right section, but I couldn't find anything more suitable on this site. I've done a bit of internet research but not come up with anything relevant to what I require.

I'm about to sign a publishing contract. The exact details will remain a secret until I reveal them, but although the contract itself seems straightforward I'm a little confused as to the actual signing process.

Essentially, the contract has a section that I'm supposed to sign, with the following spaces:

By:.............................
Name:...............................
Title:.........................
Adress for notice:...........................

Now the name, title and address are straightforward, but to what does the "by" section apply to? I'd assumed just my name, but then there's a section for that just below, so writing my name twice doesn't seem to make sense.

Or is that the particular syntax of the contract that just means "signature", in which case I scrawl my bit in that section and my actual name in print goes in the name section?

Sorry if it's a daft question but I'm not used to signing contracts...

The "by" section could be used if you have instructed someone to act on your behalf such as solicitor (name of the solicitor could go in "by" section, company name underneath). Can't guarantee that's correct so worth getting checked by a legal representative.

That sounds right, but again, ask somewhere besides the internet.
