Simpsons weirdness

I'm watching my second Simpsons episode at the moment, and it's weird. All the voices are wrong, and sound muffled. And the drawing is mince.

What's going on here?

The two episodes are where Bart cheats on an IQ test and goes to smart school, and Homer signs up for a family therapy plan.

Can any Simpsons afficionados tell me what the scene is here?
 
That episode is probably from the first season. The animation and voices were really bad.
 
Yeh, because on Fox 8 yesterday they were showing really old episodes, because the animation was really bad, and most of the places looked different...

No, they were on Sky One. Although it did sound like they'd been taped off the TV with a handheld video camera.
 
Must be a very old tape then...remember some of those first season was 14-15 years ago! Mr. Groening also talks about how low the budget was very low in those days. That, and they hadn't tacked down all of the voices and character models yet.
 
those are from the first season (both if i recall correctly)
The first ep was the babysitter bandit one, a classic from the early days is when they buy a motor home and go camping.
 
fav character is sideshow bob. definatly the greatest character ever created for the show.

it doesn't mean anything, it's like ramalama ding dong, or give peace a chance....I LOVE THAT ONE....also shut up brain or I'll stab you with a Q tip...:lol:
 
The voices sound totally different in the oldest episodes. They're hard to watch when you're used to the rest of them. Especially Homer and Marge. Also homer is less weird and more of a dummy, which isn't as funny.

But that one where they go to therapy is one of the best ones. I laughed my ass off when they're all shocking eachother and Maggie's just pressing all the buttons. :lol:
 
Dan Castellana has always done Homer's voice. I think all the main voices have been there since the beginning, and as the budget improved, so did the recording process.
 
True, but Dan Castenella changed the voice, too, or was told to. It's pretty different in the first season. So is Burns', Moe's, Marge's... and the even changed the drawings in small ways, but I'm sure you already new that.

Those two episodes are the 2nd and 4th episodes ever, so what do you expect?
 
But he had the same purple spikey hair. Wouldn't that be indicative of a light-skinned person (light, straight hair)? Maybe he spent too long in the tanning booth. ;)
 
All of those visual things were fixed by series 2. But Homer's voice is still stupid in series 2. That becomes normal in Series 3.
 
I can't remember, but didn't Groening say something about the coloration in the first season's DVD commentary? I think it was something to do with sending it to Korea to get the animation done, but they messed up the colors early on. I'd have to check that (or just get vat_man into this thread.)
 
As a Simpson fan I just bought the collectors season 1&2. Season 3 is about to be released in sweden in august.

How many seasons have been released in the us? Do you know if they plan to release one season every year ahead or will they come faster?

In the UK we already have the first two season out on DVD and the third should be out July 28th - I can't wait :).

In the US the third series has been released and series 4 comes out soon as well - its unfair :(
 
Homer has to be the greatest singer/songwriter of all time!👍

I only wish. Season Three is coming in August or September.
