I imagine the Atom on an oval is more interesting than the Dodge Charger on an oval for 20 laps.

I'm just over 2000 credits myself. Not sure if I should buy a car or keep saving up for future events/cars/quick races that prove popular.

Which cars do you have? Or if you have more than a few, how many?

I've just stopped for now (need to do some work) with 810 credits, I had a quick look at the cars I can afford now and there's a lot of choice. The Asphalt Modified and Cossie are obvious choices but I'm also tempted by pretty much all of the <1000cr road cars (MX-5, RX-7, RX-8, TT, Mini Coupe...) so I can't decide whether I want to buy the Cossie or a combination of a couple of Mazdas and the Modified. I'm thinking I'll buy the Cossie first then pick up the others as I earn the credits but really it makes no difference, does it?

Oh and in addition to being unable to read, I also can't count. I have $2.91 left, but that doesn't actually matter because as you recommended and I said I'm going to hold onto it anyway.

Save to 1060 and buy both the Cosworth and the Modified! The modified is just too good fun not to buy, and its great value. The Cosworth is the best of all the 150-300bhp range of cars by a mile in my opinion.

Mx-5 = Difficult car to drive, not one of my favourite in the sim, it's realistic but it over accenuates some of the negative qualities of the MX-5 too much.

RX-7 = Bit of a borefest if i'm honest, doesn't sound great either and the engine lacks oomph, like no torque or something. I'm told by RX-7 owners that it's pretty accurate but I didn't personally like it that much.

RX-8 = Fun car for me, I really liked it but some people have issues with it under braking, personally I really like it and would recommend it.

TT - Fun car that I like, it has a bit of understeer from the drive of the front wheels, in a typical 4WD fashion, but personally I like it, quite powerful and sounds good, can really be thrown into corners and it won't fall over or give up on you.

Mini = Fun car again, fast and exciting, a lot of offthrottle oversteer but it's fairly controllable, this is one of the more fun and exciting low power cars in the game once you have got used to the sometimes scary offthrottle oversteer and slides that result.

But still, for me the Cosworth is the best of all the cars, it sounds great and it's very well modelled graphically and it's a real good car to drive, it's well sorted and decently balanced, isnt over the top on stability but it won't bite you too hard, it's fun and exciting to drive but without having to be punishing (like the MX-5) or over the top (like the Mini) and you don't have understeer issues (TT) or a weedy feeling engine (RX-7).

As for the Modified it's just a complete animal, it's savage in terms of power. It's a raw and untamed oldschool racing car that wants to bite your head off, but it is drivable and because of that it can be really really fun!

I'm up to 49 cars now, been playing it on and off for well over 6 months though, won some prize events and earned nearly 11k credits and bought a car nearly every test drive tuesday, so they add up pretty quickly!

I think I'll just wait and let the credits stack up. I don't want to blow credits on a car that I'll end up not being able to use for a while.

As long as there's a car I have that can be used on an oval, I think I'm good.

Wise man, it took me a while to learn how best to spend credits... And I still wilfully ignore what I've learned and buy cars I can't even use. But you're right, as long as you have something you can use on an oval.

That's one thing I don't like about SRW though, I kind of feel like whenever I play it I should be doing something to earn credits, and even then I want to do something to earn credits with the least amount of effort or time. Then I buy cars and only use them if I can use them on ovals! They need, in my opinion, to adjust the payout so everything is worthwhile. Say, for example, basing credit rewards per lap on a par time or something. If it takes a minute and a half to do one lap then it should be worth three times as much as a 30 second lap.

Also I think they should get in there early and totally rip off Battlelog. It would set SRW apart from iRacing (not that I know how iRacing actually works) and could really draw people in, they could even add achievements, unlocks (all I can actually think of is cars and liveries) and rented servers and stuff... It could work, surely?

Anyway, whatever, I'm just daydreaming. Thanks for those brief reviews, Bazz, I think I'll buy the Modified now, the Cossie after that then get back to the Mazdas. I recall saying I was going to buy the three of them before anything else a little while back. I still 'need' the R5 Turbo as well. Looking at my account history I've actually spent a fair bit on SRW, $50 since May last year. I've bought 24 cars with real money so far (well, the McLaren M23 I managed to get for free), probably only unlocked maybe five or six with credits.

Just a brief recap of what is coming to SRW in the future, most of which I already covered in the thread to some degree.

1. Dirt racing
2. Multi Car racing - Mixed class, same class etc etc.
3. Social features, including being able to add friends, join groups and create your own race events for leagues. I'm not 100% sure but this should include recording stats down similar to iRacing on profiles.
4. A better credits system has been discussed heavily and is likely to come from what I gather, probably based on roughly 5 credits per 1minute. It may not be for a while though as it will come once they have finished adjusting the penalty detection system. Nothing is solid certain about this but there is a big discussion concerning it on the forums.

Hopefully when everything is added in you will have a much bigger reason to own cars other than ones being used in current events. They seem to have big things planned for improving and upscaling the service, and they suggested Q1 this year.

The Asphalt Modified is so much fun and the price tag is fantastic.
It's a bit tricky to drive and some noobs are causing a huge havoc in Kentucky (it's so funny to watch when they start slow, rev up the engine and drive straight into the wall ), but 300 credits is a steal.

Are they planning on revising the rep points system? As it is now, there's no possible way to lose any points.

It's good to know the service is still evolving and social aspects would be very welcome.

Wow, are my nerves frayed! I just joined G.T.Ace for two Asphalt Modified races around Kentucky oval. That thing is just insane. First race I was coming 7th (but only because everyone behind me had quit), managed to get into 6th and then the server crashed. In the second race I started from 2nd, got a terrible start (as you'd expect) but managed to hold 6th for the rest of the race until the guy in 5th crashed, so I only dropped three places. Then I tried a third time and must've gotten a bizarre communication error because in the warmup everyone showed as being the same guy and halfway round the first corner my game froze, but I could still type chat messages. Wheel locked up, couldn't escape out of it, so I left it to see if it would come back. It sort of did; I was teleported back to the pit and could see people chatting, saying 'good luck' and all that, but I couldn't do anything other than send chat messages.

Anyway, that car is crazy. I like that it's cheap so the races are always packed, but making such an insane car so cheap is probably going to end in tears... If I'd been near anyone during lap three of the first race there would've been an accident. I'll see if I have the replay.

I found that starting in 2nd with full throttle on the clutch/brakes makes the start better in the Modified. It has enough torque that once it gets to about 15mph in 2nd it launches fast. Just have to watch as it gets closer to the shift point for 3rd as it will try to change direction.

I didn't have any connection issues, but you were not the only one according to the chat. I made some 2nd and a first place today. Finished all races but one (got crashed by a spinning car), so it was a successful day for me. Got a rating from 67.something in the end.

I don't know if it's my PC, my connection or bugs in SRW itself but I've just had a similar connection problem. I joined a quick race lobby, got out on track for the warmup, but the other cars disappeared halfway through and the frame rate was stuttering like crazy. Then the race started, my wheel locked 90 degrees right, the game froze and then the wheel centred itself. Weird. Had to Ctrl Alt Del again.

I had a connection problem on my first race this morning, seen a few people have it in races I joined, I think they are having issues with their servers this morning by the looks. Annoying but **** happens I guess, lol.

Had a few good races this morning though I did race against an almost impossibly fast keyboard user at Kentucky in the modifieds who I suspected was cheating, I've won almost every race I've done at that event and have it pretty nailed so have a good idea of how fast it can be done, but he was pulling away from me at a ridiculous rate every lap. I'm willing to believe that people can be faster than me for sure, but not that much faster.

For what it's worth I was running 31.2 laptimes, it's possible to go faster but by that point you're splitting 10ths, this guy was pulling away at a massive rate every lap, using a keyboard. It was only quickrace though, so it matters not and they cant get away with it in events due to the review process.

I was in the Evo X race in third place, at times I was within arm's reach of 2nd, and I think it was on lap 6 I became aware that a car was gaining on me as if it magically had an extra 10mph or so. He ended up coming second because he just blew past me and the 2nd place guy as if we weren't even there! I mean, my oval racing technique totally sucks and everything but that was crazy.

Sometimes it's the slipstream aerodynamics, sometimes it's cheaters and sometimes they are just better, but sometimes there is something really fishy going on, I definitely had that feeling. There are cheaters and they are working on measures to do stuff about it, end of the day it happens in all games and it just needs to be stamped on hard. I know the review process they have currently weeds out the cheaters from the events but it is a bit offputting and annoying when it happens in the Quick Races, because lets be honest they don't really mean anything at the moment, it's just a quick blast for fun and credits, but still it can spoil your race if you think that someone is exploiting to gain an unfair advantage.

That said, I've never seen it happen before and I've been playing for quite a while so it isnt a big issue I suppose.

Anyway, I'm just about ready for them to release these social features now, could get a GTPlanet league up and running for some real good clean hard racing. In terms of the content I think they have that nailed down, the cars themselves are fantastic, as are the physics on the whole, just need the tools available for us to get some proper organised racing going.

Had a close 3-way battle going in a Modified race until the last lap when I lost it off of turn 2. Somehow I instinctively put it into neutral and managed to coast to the line with 3 wheels and no power to finish the race. Managed to beat one guy as well.

I've also been able to run 34.4 to 34.7 laptimes pretty consistently now with that animal.

My first race in the Modifieds, I think you were part of this race GTPorsche!

Called the video "Learning to Drive" for a good reason, because we're driving like a bunch of hillbilly amatuers, fun though.

Wasn't sure that I would get that car, but after watching that race I wanna try it out. Looks like I'll have some fun trying to keep it straight .

In my last race I didn't really stand a chance so I was getting the back out in fifth gear around each corner, it's a lot of fun.

Edit: I've just noticed that I'm 19th out of 47 entrants for the C6.R race at Indy. That's after two terrible, terrible laps... Maybe I'll put some effort in and see if I can't get up to, oh I don't know, 18th. There's five whole seconds between me and the guy in the lead, but I wonder how many will be disqualified? There should be an indication of times that are legitimate and those that aren't, maybe, to give us plebs some hope if nothing else.

So a few things. I just got out of my race with Allen Mcnish, and some other pretty fast drivers. Was in the Audi R18 at BRNO circuit, really wish I had made the point to practice it as I wasnt confident with either the car or circuit enough to push hard.

Still, I battled my way into 2nd place, but a faster driver behind beat me under braking and I fell into 3rd, I managed to keep up with him for a good while until at the start of one lap I noticed a few laggy cars and then I was in 4th (Allen was in 5th place at this point, battling behind). Annoyed and confused by what happened I kept racing and caught up to the 3rd place car passing him on the final lap after a good clean bit of battling to finish 3rd, allen finished 5th I believe!

Was landed to be able to get to race him, even though I ended out infront and didn't actually race side by side. Hopefully I can salvage something from the replay!

Next up in... They Released Silverstone today, I'm not sure why, perhaps an early release for the race with Mcnish?

And tomorrows Test Drive Tuesday car is the Mclaren MP4-25

Edit : Just to make it clear, you will be able to drive the car for 24hours completely free without buying it. An event will be held at Silverstone circuit in the car.

Apparently Allan Mcnish will be returning to do more racing at 2:30-5pm PST, so in around 1h 20mins from posting. You will need the Audi R18 to race against him.

Will most likely be at the BRNO circuit, as they were having some race start bugs with Silverstone.

I'm impressed with the MP4-25. It's not easy to drive it fast with the DS3, but i don't want to resort to using driving aids.

I'm also up to 2500 credits now. Hopefully I'll have something good to spend it on eventually.
