Simulation Steering assist.

What are your thoughts about simulation steering assist?
Why was it included and what are the pros and cons of using it?

My review of it is its pretty much useless for drifting because it doesn't provide much countersteer.

Thankyou for puting this up, Breaker. I was talking to a guy in another thread about this, so this will be a good topic of discussion. I have tried all the settings with the wheel (when I had it), and I found the amature, and pro to be the best settings. I found the simulation setting restrictive, and would not allow for "full lock".;)

I have to agree with u Breaker, Simulation doesn't allow for much countersteer. I find myself spinning out a lot because of it. For me it also makes the wheel kinda irratic when it comes to force feedback. I get strange feedback u normally don't get on the other settings

I think what the developers were thinking of simulation for the wheel is that if you turn it 90 degrees, that it responds like a 90 degree turn in a real car, because thats as far you could turn the logitech GT3 wheels. So as long as you are grip driving, it would prove usefull to simulate the actual sensitivity of the wheel. This is just my theory. I came up with this from observing how far racers actually turn their wheels when they are grip racing. Does this sound like a good theory?

Sounds like a reasonable theory to me.;)

Actually I tried yesterday to drift at the first steering assist, amateur or beginner and professional and simulation. I find that amateur or beginner is the best assist type to drift.

I've also heard that. Maybe your right. Hey, you should post more. You have been on since Oct 03', and your still a new member. I read your post in another thread, and it sounds like you have a fair amount of knowledge, in the subject of drifting. We need more people around here, that can give insightfull input.;)

Professional is the best steering assist for drifting in my opinion. Gives you the fastest and smoothest response.

Yes, Pro has the fastest response. If you move the wheel slightly your car will respond faster than if you were in Beginner or amature assist. You can test it on zig zag turns at high speed. With pro, you will be able to drive throught it faster. (grip not drift)

What is the difference anyway? I think they all feel the same. I used two different steering wheels (logitech force feed back and logitech force feed back PRO GT edition) and did a comparison to all 4 modes.. only small difference I found is that amatuer has more of a power steering feel to it and that the wheels return to center/neutral zone faster than pro of simulation. On the PRO, I also tested out the difference in 200 degree mode as well as 900 degree mode (btw, anyone who can drive or drift with the 900 degree mode at 100+ mph is my hero).. I also configured the PRO wheel to 60% feedback mode as well at 100% feedback mode.. I just feel more rumble if I hit the dirt pavements.

Note: test-car used for this was the BMW 328 Ci with racing exhuast/intake, chip, port and polish, and engine balancing (to round out about 240 to 234 hp [trying to simulate the power of an E36M3]) with simulation tires.

Word. Ive always used SIM, but as of recent, I switched over to PRO.

I have to bring this thread back because still there is no good answers. I've been driving FF cars recently, so I haven't needed much help with countersteering (not drifting much), and so I've been doing many trials switching back and forth between Sim steering assist and Pro steering assist. Each time I switch I get faster times, due to the practice I gain each time I run, so I can't tell which will give you faster times.

Its known for sure that pro assist provides faster response and better times compared to beginner and amatuar steering assist, however I have no clue how it compares to simulation steering assist. "I'm not talking drift here, I'm talking grip racing" Can anyone else help me run tests????

I've been trying to figure out just why the simulation steering allowed for so litle countersteer and if it was even realistic for awhile now. I've talked to a few *older* guys online who race in real life and they said that its unrealistic how you cant come anywhere close to correcting the car once it starts to come around even a little bit on simulation steering mode. I just wanted to race with the most "realistic" physics possible, but im still not 100% sure whether simualtion mode is more realistic than the other modes or not.
