Started to wonder what races it is possible to win using simulation tyres after running the Trial Mountain Enduro in a Tuscan and a couple of runs in the PD cup with a Lotus 350 sport on simulation tyres and coming home in first place ( I am going to run the full PD cup on sims soon).

So which races have you run on sims and what where the results??

I don't care much for sim tires, but I assume that the right driver would be capable of winning each and every championship on sims.....

I believe Der Alta won the Roadster Enduro on sim tires.

I applaud the effort to make the challenge tougher, but I would rather use T2s on a car with a big power deficit than limit my traction on a faster car.

In gt4 arcade mode, one can choose between race and sim tyres.
I find it quite frustrating in arcade mode that Im the only one on sim tyres and everone else has alot more speed thru the corners!

I find racing stock cars on sim tyres creates a sortve Best Motoring scenario! but with heavily modded cars, its abit rediculous

Sim tires were placed in the game specifically for drifting. No other reason. It would be stupid for a racer to pay $5000 to $6000 for tires that perform worse than the stock units.

But yeh, I have though about doing some of the arcade races on sims. I always use my drift cars there and just drift the courses.

have to disagree with you mate, sim tyres SIMULATE real tyres in real life, with stock road going tyres.
They are great for drifting tho! If the default tyres were sims, wed all be falling off the track with "only" 280bhp on the wheels.

I know that... duh. PD put them in for the drifters though. The PD President even called them drift tires and mentioned how they put them in for the drifters... lol.

Ving there are too many of these arguments already so...

Back on topic... seems like an interesting idea... i may try a low powered vehicle on sims and see how well i can do in amateur first...

go for it, it adds a new challenge to the game.
i have sims on only 2 of my cars. a stock rx7-rz and 300zx.
fun stuff

Simulation tires are self explanatory...they may be used for drifting...but they are made to simulate stock tires.

How fast do Sims wear compared to the racing tires ?... (If at all....)

(Tried the Roadster Enduro last night on T2's.. That worked out pretty well. Not as close as I hoped for, so later today I think I'll take it again on Sims)

The only advantage I can see is that sim tires seem to last a little longer than slick or super slicks, though I haven't really tested it. May have to try that this afternoon. Personally though, I'll stick with slicks even on underpowered cars, sim tires don't really have a place in most races unless your TCS is set high enough that you actually get some traction.

Tyres reach the red stage of wear after about 5 laps BUT you do not need to pit as there is no significant performance alteration between green and red wear states (Completed TM 2hr in a tuscan without pitting 73 laps raced)

w00t ?.. That I do not get... When I ran the Roadster Enduro last night my right front tire were turning red(ish) after 10 laps, and on the 11th I would start having trouble with the long left hander before the short downhill straight.. With green tires speed through the corner were around 142-145 and with the red front tire I had to drop it to below 140 to avoid running wide (km/h mind you...)

But I will try again when I get home in an hour or so and see what happens with Sims ;)

No TCS... Are you using button or stick for accelerator ?...

Anyway - This is also more of an experiment than anything else....

And a bad one at that too... After 5 laps my Sims are smouldering and the car is slipping all over.. That and the leadcar had pitted on lap 3 and now I'm down 32 seconds... So if anyone can nail the Roadster Enduro... Kudos - Bigtime, 'coz that will be no easy task....

When I get home I will find the quote where the PD President calls sim tire drift tires, and how they placed in in the game as something for the drifters.

What real racer is gonna spend money to get less performance out of his tires? Come on now.

Yep after 5 laps the tyres will be red and after 20 laps the tyres will still be red somewhere around the 50 odd lap mark in the TM enduro I set my quickest lap 1'38.2xx and the tyres were still red but I was consistantly in 1'38 to 1'40 bracket mainly running mid 1'39 laps

As for the drifting issue...I understand why they are used for this (i do so myself from time to time) but when you've been playing GT3 from the day it was released you need to try and make it a little more interesting (testing your skill in driving a car) and thats why I actually race on sims. To be honest I spend most of my time when playing GT3 running sims at the moment

As far as I can see if people want to use them to drift or race it is up to them. Read the short paragraph about them in game to find out what they are for ;)

From what I remember they simulate what it would be like to drive on a track with real tyres.

300bhp is a lot of horses in real life and you would have to be careful with the throttle of a FR car to avoid some oversteer moments........

Going to have to aaquire a new MX5 fit a set of sims and try the Roadster enduro now :D

Had a quick go at this with a 1.8i and an RS the 1.8i turned laps in the high 1.47's and was 30 odd seconds in the lead after 20 laps :D didn't complete the race due to it being 1am. The RS was a different kettle of fish. Laps in the 1'51 range causing it to be well behind and no hope of catching up. Did like the way it handled on the sims...just didn't have the straight line omphh

Actually, I haven't even used simulation tires yet...I only realised that when I posted that. But I'm sure simulation = stock tires, simulating normal real life stock tires.

I've just started a new game and i am planning to do the entire game on sim tyres, except for things like the F1 tourney. I want to test myself and seee if i can complete the game on sims :) If you want to read on my progress so far, go here http://sdcave.themaille.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=301
I started this game 2 days ago so im not actually that far atm :) but im enjoying myself more than when im playing with T2's on my car :)
