I've found what I think is an excellent single-player challenge with the Ascari 10 lap Challenge
(super licence events)

It involves buying a car and modifying/tuning it from scratch, while spending as little as
possible on it to make as much profit as possible - but modifying enough so you can actually win
the race with your driving skill.
The less you spend on the car/upgrades, the more money you'll earn if you win, but the more
difficult it will be to win - the faster you'll have to drive.

Noting that the winnings are $233000 for first place....

1. Choose a car you think you can be competitive with (pretty much any road car up to about
$150k is fun to try with) against those supercars.

2. Modify it as efficiently as you can, watching the total amount you spend including car cost
to keep it under the $233 000

3. Make any fine adjustments and do some testing if you feel the need to, to optimise the car,
keeping in mind tyre wear and pitstops.

4. Race it in the Ascari 10 lap challenge, driving your very best to win (which can be quite a
challenge depending how much profit you're shooting for.)

5. Sell the car, check your overall profit, then try again with another car, adjusting your
difficulty/winnings by changing the amount you spend on the car and upgrades.

----------------------------------------------
This seems to require
-knowing your cars, whats likely to be fast or not without being too expensive, making use of
the variety of cars in GT
-knowing how to modify and setup a car cost-effectively
-driving fast while conserving tyres and fuel.
-knowing the track well

I've been finding some good battles with the AI even, as with doing this, my car isn't really
faster than the AI-controlled supercars, so I have to use every bit of driving skill to be
competitive.
It just incorporates a lot of aspects of the game which I like, and shows you which cars can
truly be competitive when modified and driven hard.

So far I'm finding I'm having to spend between 100 - 140k on the car and upgrades in order to
win. But I think getting it under 100k would be possible with the right car and some serious
driving skill - and from what I've seen online, there are some pretty skilled drivers/players
out there.

Some of the cars I've used:
Lexus ISF: spent 139650, earned 116330
R32 skyline GTS-T: spent 112900, earned 127255
Esprit V8 GT: spent 190380, earned 71849
TVR Cerbera speed 6: spent 132930, earned 124034
RX-7 GTX: spent 103110, earned 55348, (only got second place, but still made profit)

I'm not sure whether others have done things like this, I'd be interested in other peoples
methods of finding good challenges within the game.

Yeah counted the sale price in the final earnings. More expensive car will sell for more of course, but loose more money with the buy-sell.

Ascari is my track with the most mileage due to racing many cars in the 10 lap challenge, all stock. Most cars 470PP and up were successful, one stint on softs one on hards. Tuned and tried a Suzuki Swift Sport, destroyed the tires in a few laps. Raced with HUD off felt like ice, no control when I check to see the level was surprised to see the levels at 0.

This is a creative idea. How bad is the rubberband ai? It has been almost a year now since I did this one.

I find I'm tuning my cars to around 500pp to be competitive usually. Up to 550pp gets a bit easier but wins less money with most cars.
I'd guess anything with 470+ PP standard would probably cost a fair bit to start with.
I just prefer getting cheaper cars that I have to tune harder, while trying to keep the cost down.

I've only really been doing it with FR or MR.
FFs are terrible on tyre wear, havn't managed to win it with an FF yet, I'm gonna try though.
I'm guessing an evo, or a GTR might make it easy. A cheap EVO RS would probably do well, and win with minimal cost.

I don't find it that bad in this particular race. The leader does usually start trying harder if you overtake, but you can hold them off near the end of the race - usually the tyres are getting down to their last usable grip by then.

yep, but unfortunately there's a lot less "gran turismo" in GT6
Online racing is fun, but I've really missed the single player career-mode challenge of the older games.
Audi S4'98 tuned to 500 pp is possible but i've got yet to win, only third place yet

Mazda MX5 1800 RS '00 501pp Spent 122,030. Earned 117,954

Esprit HC turbo 87, spent 166,900. didn't win/failed to earn

Holden Monaro, spent 139,060. Earned 26,328 (2nd place)

This track really makes the advantage of light weight more obvious regardless of pp, when tyre wear is taken into account.

My favorite past time in GT6 now is to do this with a variety of cars.

My first consistent win was with a 500pp Isuzu 4200R '89. It's not about the money that you win or the value of the car; it's about the challenge. You have the F1 and the Huayra just inching behind, as if they're some sort of mad stalker.

A mildly tuned 500pp Audi S4 '98 was my 2nd car that got a win. Just gotta find the right tune to consistently get it, though.

I've won this in numerous cars. All of them stock (although some did have sports softs on)

Here's a selection, and like @SomePlayaDude this is probably my favourite race in GT6.

GTO 84 23:44.454
3400S 23:50.437
GT40 mk1 23:56.933
RGT 24:03.848
Garaiya 24:11.201
599 '06 24:15.933
Ford GT '05 24:16.192
Esprit V8 24:48.625

I hadn't realised the Esprit V8 win was such a slow time, but the cars behind me were a Diablo GT, Ford GT, and a 430 Scud.

Oh, and there is also this...

in the first lap of the 24minutes of nurbrgring will crash with the 100% against the guardrail at the exit of the pit of the nordschleife.
It's pretty dramatic if you get caught in, sadly it's too easy to recover.

The Ascari 10-lap event is definitely the best event in GT6. Tire wear, fuel use, and a pit stop, so strategy comes into play. Long enough to feel like a good challenge. The AI seems a little bit brighter for some reason, and they will push too hard and get sideways or have offs here and there. All set on a brilliant circuit. This has been my go-to grind for a long time now. I like to use cars that can get to the end without a pit-stop and are slow enough that you've really got to fight for the win regardless of the time you gain by not stopping. Cars like the Honda NSX-R and the Ford GT40 road car on sports hards would be my recommendations for maximum enjoyment.

it can be done with the BMW m3, being lightweight it was easy passing through the corners, the real challenge begun on straights, the gap in sheer power was evident but i kept up the 4th position until lap 7, when i had to change tires
(from sports hard to sports soft) and refuel.
My lap times dropped significantly, from 2.18.xxx on sh to 2.15.xxx and lower.
Managed to overtake the 1st, a bugatti veyron followed by a tight FFX, passed both on the petit eau rouge and finished the remaining 2 laps lapping some unfortunate shelby gt500 and giving the veyron a good 0.30.xxx seconds.
Now i'm thinking about putting my hands on my stack of 500-510 pp tuned cars and see what happens this time.

I did it with a Sprinter Trueno GT Apex '83
485pp, kept cost down to 127,410 (which handicapped the car a bit with missing LSD, gearing etc.)
was a challenging race, really had to concentrate on good lines, and keeping corner-speed up, and no mistakes. SS and 1 pitstop. Total time 24:42 which probably seems a bit slow. The FXX seemed to spin of a few times early on and never quite caught up.

Easily winnable with a 450pp Dino, SM tires.
Finished in 24:08. Fastest lap was 2:18. 2nd place was the McLaren F1.
Pitted once for tires after lap 5. No fuel needed. The McLaren pitted after lap 6 and I passed him while he was in the pits. After the pit exchange, I was up 0:14 after the first split and ended up winning by over 0:30 with the F1 and Enzo battling it out behind me.

Used this tune by @Ridox2JZGTE. No aids. An excellent way to waste a half hour. Great fun.
