single player mode

So recently I just bought the veyron and was racing at ssrx in single player mode. So I was doing around 434kmph when I noticed that a pagani huayra was catching up to me and no it was not drafting me so I was intrigued at how stock huayra was doing 434 kmph so I quit the race and watched the replay. Surprisingly the huayra was just doing 412kmph o_O. So how is it that it was catching up to me even when I was going at atleast 435? Im assuming this is a glitch.
 
In A-spec a lot of rubberbanding occurs. If you pull out a lead the AI cars will catch up no matter how stellar your laps are. Its to make the races more interesting or less boring since the AIs so slow. Interestingly enough, the AI cars never pass when they rubberband; they just rear end you and fall back off. Rubberbanding also means that you'll be able to catch a lead car even when your several seconds back on the final lap.
 
Something similar happened to me in the Like the Wind event. I was speeding down the highway course at about 450 km/h and then suddenly a stock Veyron comes up behind me and catches me. The replay showed he barely passed 410 km/h.
