I did strap N-tyres onto the 500, but it ultimately proved fruitless as the AIs all had sport/mediums. No drifting attempted from my point of view, although several accidental drifts occurred and were recovered...

In America those are called DONUTS..........so here's a challenge, go get in one those badass force fed Aussie machines wind it up till you get to 3rd or 4th gear, can you keep it in a straight line????? You see we have an expression here it goes like this, "REAL MEN KEEP IT STRAIGHT". Your "burnouts" are cool, it's just any one can do that in any rear wheel drive car/truck. Where as an "American burnout" demonstrates the power required to get the wheels moving and keep the wheels going in the same spot. Last but not least HOW ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE THE WORLD SPIN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION WHILE SPINNING DONUTS????

You asked and I defended!

No need to defend... This has nothing to do with Aussies or Americans... If you have a rear wheel drive car with a big engine you can do all kinds of stuff with it... a bad driver is a bad driver... no matter where you're from....

So what use will N tyres have in GT5 I wonder. In GT4 they were free, and were useful to get higher A-spec points. Now they cost credits to buy, and with more challenging AI and the possibility of A-spec points not making a return, what incentive do people have to use them? Some races in Prologue forced N tyres (And AI cars also used them), so hopefully there will be some events like this in GT5. The Standard vs Professional sorts out the skill gap, so there should be no problem with that.

In GT4 S (semi-slicks) tyres come as default for most road legal cars.
Maybe in GT5 the default for them will be, more realistically, N (normal/street) tyres, with their class (Hard, Normal, Soft, which would be N1, N2, N3 I guess) depending on the car.

That's what i'm hoping. Most cars, especially those not designed to be sports cars, should come with road/N tyres. Early events like the Sunday cup (Providing it makes a return) should force N tyres.

I do hope GT5 cars come with free production/standard/simulation (whatever you want to call it) tyres with the car, they don't have to be fitted but have them in the setup menus to fit. I can't remember exactly but didn't GT4 and older GT's have something like this? I forget because I hardly used them but I intend to in GT5.

Please keep this on topic and dont feed the trolls that want to start a fight. For once I would love to see a GT thread stay on topic.
How about some more pics or videos of GT5 skid marks? :)

There is no incentive. Stock cars should come from factory with N tires. It makes the game more realistic. It should handle the way the real car would handle with N tires. Plus why would anyone complain about adding more tire choices? Plus they're perfect for drifting :)

And drifting does what guys? it leaves massive skidmarks! well at least I tried to keep it on topic :P

In the on-disc manual of GT5:Prologue there is a chart which tells you what tires to select for front and rear for the most realistic representation. I would expect the same to be in GT5. :)

You obviously haven't heard of Australian powerskid competitions?

A taster:

Sorry to help steer the topic away from GT5 :(

I would love to see that Nascar footage, the best burnout footage we have seen so far is that ACR Viper spining as it exits the sand, or the C3 Corvette on Nurb.

Here is a Swedish Burnout:sly:

In GT4 all road cars came with S2 tyres, and some tuner and sports models came with S3 tyres.

I don't think any cars came with N tyres as stock. They were free, but you had to go to the parts menu to acquire them. They were Economy, Luxury and Comfort I think (They were named differently in the parts menu, to what they were in the tuning menu for some reason. So everyone just refers to them as N1-2-3 etc.)

There will be an incentive, if either A-spec points make a return, or certain races force you to use them.

I hope road cars come with N2s as stock. Standard physics will mean the beginners won't find it too difficult, as professional physics just equals wheelspin.

And we know what wheelspin causes... Skidmarks! :dopey: (I'm on topic too :p)

That's news to me, I didn't know that :) But ideally, the stock tyres should be the most realistic.

But so what if certain races force you to use them? I'm happier doing those sort of races. The A.I will be using N tires aswell so I don't see the problem? If you mean N tires are too difficult, there's TCS for a reason and standard physics. Me personally I like driving the stock cars exactly the way they would come out of a dealership, N tires just makes it more exciting. Bit of tail end kick here and there is a good thing :) Unless ofcourse you are forced to use N tires on a McLaren F1 or a Zonda R...then yeah that would be ridiculous. TCS definitely on, otherwise no hope of controlling those beasts.

I know, I was pre-empting the counter argument, that "N tyres are too difficult for beginners". That is what standard physics are for :D

But yeah I agree, N tyres on cars which have semi-slick tyres as stock is just wrong, so high end sports cars should come with S2-3 tyres as per usual. But low end car's with tyres designed to be economical should start with N2-3 tyres.

I do think that AI tyre choice should be consistent with the type of tyres those cars have. I don't want to race a lightweight K cup with all the AI car's sporting Semi-slicks that cost as much as the car itself. All beginner events in those sort of car's should force the use of N tyres.

By the way, very few road legal cars today come as stock with semi-slick tyres (for example M3 CSL, Porsche 911 GT3, certain Lotus Elise models, I think the Ferrari F430 Scuderia and other sports cars mainly made for track-days than driving on normal roads). I would not want for example to see road-spec Skylines GT-R with Semi-slick tyres. That would not be realistic and would give them an unfair advantage over other cars.

Road legal cars should mostly have normal tyres. That includes most mass-produced supercars too.

Most Japanese cars come stock with very good tires, probably better than most supercars.

Yes, but one shouldn't mistake good sport street tires with semi-slick tires.
They are a completely different world.

The GT-R tyre would be considered an S1 in GT5 speak, maybe even S2

I think they are, most of the high powered cars are recomended by the in game manual for S1 rears and N3 fronts, and some, PD have recomended S2 rears for the most authentic experience :)

That would mean the cars don't have as much "acceleration" grip as they should in Prologue, hope they got that sorted in GT5 :)

Not sure where this thread is right now, my two cents:

There's only one flavour of standard tyres so far in the demo. And it's a nightmare to drive on them ;) At least on pro physics, no TCS, BMW 1 series.

The skidmarks are spot on. And don't be a smart alec Clarkson in asking "How hard can it be?" I'm not talking black lines from burnouts but all the creative patterns you get when spinning off track, like often seen on German Autobahn. Great asset to the game.

We really need to get some videos of some solid skidmark videos. Donuts, and 11s with a clear bumper cam view

Back to the original topic...

Skid-marks just add realize to the racing experience. I've realized in playing a lot of Forza 3 lately that it really does make a difference. Haven't played GT5P once since getting Forza. GT5P is just too boring - pretty, but boring and too picture perfect compared to the tracks in Forza which looked like the have actually been driven on. Hope GT5 gets it right.

I saw a page that showed various skidmarks screenshots from the demos, but I can't remeber where it is now

Wow, 1 week ago skidmarks wasn't wanted.

You see, people don't know what they want, that's why devs like PD can't win :)

Yeah the tracks in GT5p were so barren and desolate. They just looked lifeless and I've always thought it was because there was no rubber on the track.

I'm really, REALLY hoping the skidmarks in GT5 get saved to the hard drive after a session and remain on the track for (in game time frame) 6 months +. Imagine seeing all your failed attempts of turn 1 at Suzuka right there on the track. Would improve gameplay heaps IMO 👍
