^ Sorry I don't want my hardrive clogged up with skidmarks.
Shouldn't the rain wash em away anyhow?

I think the marks will stay there for as long as the race. As soon as you quit that's when it will clear.

Think so too, I remember driving on the Nurb and seeing all of a sudden some skids, altough the car in front of me was already far ahead of me.

That's what i think too and might be as permanent as it's gonna get.

Yeah but that's exactly how I want it. Otherwise everytime I come back to the same track the marks will be there, by the time I've done my drifting laps, that track won't be recognizable anymore hehe

Yeah but tyre marks fade over time, particularly if they're on the racing line. I still think it would add another level of realism. You can reminisce about the time you stuffed your DB9 into the wall (Damage remember) purely by driving past the skidmarks. But it looks like I'm on my own with this one :D

Nah, I agree with you in that it would be a cool feature. It would be nice if they faded a bit over time too.

At the same time though, if you did a bunch of burnouts and donuts in a few areas and got rubber everywhere it might look a bit tacky, so being able to clear it would be nice. And I don't know anything about programming or anything like that, but could it be possible to just merge the skidmarks with the track model once a race is done and it wouldn't take up extra memory or just not that much? So say the skidmark replaces whatever that place looked like before.

a racing game with no skid marks is like a fighting game with out blood... or a shooting game with out bullet holes...

im glad they added that and i hope they do stay in the whole race untill you quit... because thats even more respect for PD for taking it even a step further... it will be the 1st racing game to ever do that...

every little detail counts...

they can start deleting skit marks maybe about after they have been there for about an hour... because i will not remember where they would be by then...

Yeah the tracks in GT5p were so barren and desolate. They just looked lifeless and I've always thought it was because there was no rubber on the track.

I'm really, REALLY hoping the skidmarks in GT5 get saved to the hard drive after a session and remain on the track for (in game time frame) 6 months +. Imagine seeing all your failed attempts of turn 1 at Suzuka right there on the track. Would improve gameplay heaps IMO 👍

It would be really nice to see all my initiations into that first corner and see where I usually initiate the drift into the corner.

I played the Nurb. 24hr course at GamesCom and was pleasantly surprised by the skidmarks showing where I went off on the previous lap.

I posted these donut skid marks I made in the GamesCom thread.

They stay during the race, but each race was limited at two laps, so I don't know if they will fade overtime in a longer race.

I don't think skidmarks would last an endurance race, it would fill the whole ram memory.

Something tells me you can only create X amount of marks in length. Once you reach the length they will be erased just like almost all games now. Unless they will fade away within few minutes.

Thats what i think will happen, i really doubt (especially for the longer races) that the skidmarks will stay there, and definetely not be saved to the track for future races, but will fade out after x amount of laps.

Would be great if the track texture could change dynamicly, and save the skidmarks.

I hope they arent permanent, in 5 months ive driven about 28,000 km in GT4, my Nurb would look repaved so many marks there would be.

Chepe i think they'll disappear every time GT5 is loaded mate.

You've been quoted from the past, back to the future.

Im 100% positive the marks arent permanent! Which is no problem to me.

But you're suggesting they might stick around as long as our "game" is loaded, meaning as long as you have continuously played GT until you effectively "exit" , my thoughts were more like they disappear when you "exit" the Track\Stage.

Either way works, but I do like your idea.

Yeah they should stay just for one race/weekend
Doubt that as well. I bet it'll be just like in the other racing games and simulators, where they disappear as you make new ones. The question is of how many and/or how long they can be before they begin to disappear.

I can't drift to save my life, and I'll be honest, I wasn't one of the ones crying out for skidmarks, but having seen them I think they look superb, not overdone, just right.

I can imagine my rear view button getting some serious use coming off the hairpin at Suzuka !

If it can be programmed for them to appear when a game is saved, and vanish when exiting the unsaved game.Would that be alright fellas ?.If some skidmarks can be removed, where cars had hit each other & leave those on the racing lines. That would be a big help, for newbies who are trying to find the right racing lines. So then the blue broken racing line, used in tests etc, will be used upto a certain point. After that no need to use it.

Why would a simple change in camera require a change in texture?

Well, if they're rendered in the mirrors, they're being rendered twice. PD probably wouldn't keep them there if that memory could go to something that people will actually notice.
