I own the Limited Collectors Edition, but no longer play it, and I would consider any driving game which simulates grip, weight transfer, understeer and oversteer in a reasonably convincing manner "par."

Have fun

Dammit, that M5 looks every bit as ugly as it did seven years ago, and I think real life has overdone the tyre squeal sound effects somewhat, to be honest. ;)

PD just needs to limit when the tire squeal happens. When the tire is going perpendicular to it's tread is when it starts to squeal, as opposed to straight when there is just pure spin. That and the sound IRL is more dynamic, not as repetitive as PD has made it

Does anyone know or have seen any signs of cars leaving behind marks on grass/gravel?
It would look pretty cool to see a trail of gouge marks leading off the track where someone has had an off.

I've checked that and have not seen it, only marks on tarmac in the GC demo.

I'm 100% sure we'd have that in the full version of GT5 👍.

Not to bump up an ancient thread, but this has been bothering me for a while....

Have you guys noticed how more recent gameplay videos have been lacking skidmarks?

Example: This video is from a BestBuy demo (which came out after the last video in this thread... so presumably its a later build) and it does not have skidmarks.

Infat, none of these videos have skidmarks

I noticed that too, but I wouldn't say that just because something came out later it automatically means it is a more complete, later build. The way GT5 has come and gone, who knows?!

Best Buy demos are old, from around E3.

The most recent demo seen is the one from HongKong with the fireworks on Toscana. Skidmarks can be seen there

The skid marks look very nice so far but the smoke is a little disappointing. It dissipates far too quickly. I guess there is only so much you can get out of the PS3 though.

Yer I found that looking at the videos, but it seems a lot better than GTP. It would be great to spin off on the Top Gear test track only to floor it and be lost in a cloud of smoke, like Clarkson does. :)

GT5 still has the best looking smoke in a game by a country mile though.
Getting pretty close to this. Has that look of volume.

WOW, speak of the devil the smoke lasts twice as long now!
You can never assume everything about GT5 until the you play the final version... :)

I'd suggested this some time ago, there were some pics showing rutting in the grass around some corners in Fuji and to me it didn't really look like hand made texturing, it wasn't dynamic in that demo but that doesn't tell you anything for sure. I could be competely wrong but since it's been confirmed that the snow will rut I'd guess that there will be track evolution for races in all conditions, dry track will build up rubber (including skidmarks), wet track will have drying lines, dirt tracks will rut and I wouldn't rule out the possibility of offtrack ground being affected too.

Maybe wishful thinking but I don't think it's stretching it to far.

dont worry happycorey im there with ya. I am stoked skidmarks are in. Very happy. A driving game without skidmarks just looks odd, especially when spinning out, burnouts, drifting etc...

I wasn't expecting it to be added and I would of been fine if they weren't added cause I've come so used to it by now with the past GT games, but now that it's in, I'm very happy. I'm sure theres heaps of people who are happy that skidmarks are in too. I don't see why anyone would complain about them, they only add to the game. Yes some people would prefer to swap features like the poster above would rather have a livery editor than skidmarks. That's fair enough, but I wouldn't. Sure would be great to have both to satisfy everybody but it's not like livery editor or other features are not there because of skidmarks.

Drifting will be incredible, with the new skidmarks, smoke effects, new physics and overall visuals. :)

This is also why you agree with me about skidmarks. I bet you everyone who doesn't want, or didn't care for skidmarks also hates drifting, which is incredibly fun part of the game

I'm still learning how to drift. With the Track Day option it should be better for us to learn. Like follow the leader..

I don't know how to drift at all. And I am one of those that didn't care if skidmarks were in the game or not because of the fact that I don't drift. As long as there is an in-game lesson to show me the ropes, I am sure I will appreciate skidmarks on the track.

I don't know if there is an ingame lesson though. MAYBE a license, but that's about it. Otherwise I think the best will be input from people online during track days
