hey guys

I wasn't happy with most of the drift settings i found online, so i sat down with my skyline and after several hours came up with these settings. I haven't tried them from scratch but i can tell u what they are currently.

if you think 4wd drifting isn't for pros, think again.

this car will let u slide as much as you want, but if u mess up a drift it still has the front wheels driving traction to grip you out of a bad spell.

firstly buy the best r34 skyline from the nissan shop and get everything there is to be bought, all the good stuff, stage 4 turbo, triple clutch, fully customized gears, weight reduction all of it.

get some tyres too, i'd recommend getting all the racing ones, since they tend to dictacte how much ur car drifts, the more slippery ur tyres are on the back, the quicker ur car will start to lose grip, common sense yeah maybe.

make sure you change the oil and wash it, then take it to laguna seca and go to settings:

F/R

spring rate 9.0/20.0
height 94/94
bound 1/1
rebound 1/1
camber 0/0
toe 2.0/0
stabilizer 2/2

brakes 24/11 - this isn't all that important
lsd (leave as default i.e.)
10/10
40/40
20/20

gears (forget fiddling with the gears, set auto to 30 and leave it at that, it really doesnt affect drifting)

downforce 0.29/0.35 - important! (as little downforce as possible on the back)

ASM 0
TCS 1 - yes tcs can be 1, even when u drift, setting it to 1 avoids unnecessary spin when ur parked in the sand and trying to get back on the track

vcd 15% (this is important, varying this will severly alter the characteristics of the drift, i suggest 15%)

front tyres - super soft (i think thats T8)
rear tyres - medium soft (T6 i think)

both front and rear can be on medium soft or both on super soft. they will each give different drifts.

i don't e-brake drift, i brake before a corner and then use the throttle steering to guide me through a drift, this setup works better than any other for me. if u want to show off u can drift for as long as you want on any corner, if u need speed this setup will also allow that. i beat my best grip time in this car on laguna seca. i managed to get 1:15:500 or thereabouts for a lap of that track.

if you are a beginner choose super softs front and back and floor it when exiting the corners, the back will slide out, to bring it back in just countersteer and release the throttle. it should be very easy to control.

if u want to slide more, put less grippy tyres on the back.

in my opinion this car feels a lot like the skyline you get when u select 'drift' in arcade mode. but since it has over 1000 horse power, you dont have to wait for ages on the straights, since the car arrives at corners much faster! :D

feedback very much appreciated!

cya, and good luck!

wow...thnx...I had drift settings for my R34 before...but I changed them and now I can't remember what they were...

holy smokes, i just read the 1st post rite now

y is the shock bound and rebound so little?

prob i should try those settings ^^

i dunno, i tried increasing them but the ride got worse, i can't remember whether it was too hard to turn or something else.

im not sure if its right but i get the impression that with lower values for that, the suspension is slightly stiffer and hence no sideways speed is lost in the dapening/anti-roll characteristics of the susp. hence u drift more?

it works for me ;)

paul

wow "super soft & medium soft" i tryed that it it takes turns good as in it hugs it. i use superslick in front and sim in the back seems ti slip better

thanks for trying out my settings bustwave, i find medium soft and medium slick on the back works really well for trial mountain, but i'll have to try superslick and sims tonight just like you said. but if u want faster times then certainly ur tires should hug the road more. i've also decreased my brakes down to 9/3 instead of 24/11, not that it makes much difference.

my time of 1:15:500 on laguna seca was with super soft front and back. admitedly i didnt drift much but i drifted enough to have a faster entry and exit speed than grip driving.

i just changed the toe 4 front & rear 2 be 6.0
& its really 2 drift u also dont have problem 2 use which tyre . :D  :trouble:  ;) :) :)

DAMN.. this drift sett is good... heheheh and i didnt even have to spend hours and hours trying to perfect a setting.. i dont even know what spring rate does... and i got no time reading the labels. so i just jack what i can get.. lol nice setting :odd: :banghead:

just realised what you said, toe can't be 6.0 can it? surely you mean camber?

nightmage did u ever seen or heard skyline drift , i finally found the real ( not in the games ) gtr drift . that cars was skyline er 34
was found at these www.blitz.co.jp was tuned by blitz for d1 drift competition . but i wonder is that cars fr or 4wd .....:D :D :D

no that one is drag cars . the cars that i said is new , just go the website . on the left u will se d1 race or something , just click there than u see the cars .....its nice when drift .

that skyline isnt a Gt-r its a Gt-s drivin by ken "nomuken" nomura check out this months issue ov superstreet 4 more info on da car.............or u can look it up on da internet

I've tried some settings you guys posted...but still can't do this kind of drift ( http://www.initialdarcade.com/download/riki_r34gt-r_ah_1.mpg ).... mebbe i'm still new with drifting...but i can't seems to do much counter steer with the settings.

just put slippier tyres on the car. medium slicks or medium soft... the guy in the video doesn't countersteer _that_ much, he just countersteers towards the end of a drift to straighten up the car. which should be possible with my settings.

if you want to countersteer LOADS try my bmw drift settings:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/t-22346.html

but be warned this is a difficult car to drive...

k guys, its been a while but i spent the last few days fiddling with a brand new black skyline, straight out of the showroom and i believe i have struck together a more perfect mix than i had in the first post here. i used an faq this time rather than just trial and error and i did most of my testing on laguna, apricot and complex.

the skyline is a 4wd car so it will never drift exactly like an FR car, but you can have some fun with it let me tell u. with this setup i find that i rarely have to countersteer. if anything it has a little too much understeer for my liking. i KNOW i could set the vcd down to 10% to help reduce that understeer but it has a good property too. take this car to deep forest II, and throw it sideways as much as possible on the first corner, so that your bonnet is faceing the apex, you will be AMAZED as to how easily the car will pull back from that.

rather than getting a car that slips and slides everywhere i was aiming for a car that was perfectly balanced. i.e. if u wanted to drift it, it would, otherwise u could grip drive it. i didnt quite achieve that, but its less of an animal than my first creation was.

anyway on to the settings!

it is the most expensive skyline, the r34 gtr vspec II. the stock vspec II handled better than the stock spec I so i stuck with it. buy all the best stuff for it, turbo kit 4, triple plate, racing box, racing exhaust etc etc.

tyres: super soft.

oh and get the vcd and the weight modifications too.

all:front/rear

spring rate: 10.0/15.0
ride height: 100/100
damper bound: 7/7
damper rebound: 10/10
camber: 2.0/0.0
toe: 0.0/-2.0
stabiliser: 3/3
(im still not sure about the toe and stabiliser settings but set them to this for now, should be fine)

brake balance: 20/20

LSD:
initial: 5/5
acceleration: 5/45
deceleration: 5/5

gears:
set the auto to 24 and then the final to 2.615, though this isn't all that important, just tailor them to each track. novices could set the auto to 30 and use that for all the tracks

downforce: 0.29/0.35
asm: 0
tcs: 5
vcd: 17%

my car currently has 1054hp but the exact number is unimportant, so long as it has around 1000, u should be fine ;)

let me know what u think!

I still think Pergatory's Skyline GTR v-spec II settings are the best around.;)

i dont usually bother with drift settings i just add best muffler or whatever get the hp to about 200-400 then stick sim tyres on it :D not very easy to control but once u get used to it and perfect your throttle control and counter-steer you can pull off some wicked drifts ive drifted in the rx-7 lm race car with sim tyres and even the corvette C5R!!!

also i dont usually drift in 4wd cars cos i find them harder to get drifting and they straighten out far too easily for my liking. i drift in most of the MR or FR cars and ive drifted the only RR so ill stick with what i know best:lol: :p none the less i might try those settings when i next have a good drifting session:)

fair enough. i found turning down the lsd on everything except rear acceleration helps in almost all cars. also turning down camber on the rear and increasing the spring rate helps to settle everything out.

talking about tyres i just put T3's (i think) onto the skyline listed above and it was great. seems the car is set up as good as i would have hoped ;)

i know what u mean about the 4wd's straitening out too quickly, esp if they have a poor setup. sometimes its hard to even turn the damn thing, (ahem, CTR2, ahem). though some of my favourite drift manoevres are when i turn into the corner and then hit the accelerator and the car remains sideways without any input from the steering. u can do that with my new skyline. in fact the car will even straiten itself out towards the end of the turn if u have done it right. ;)
