I was going through my friends profiles the other day to see how I stacked up against them and came across one of my PSN friends who has been with me since early Shift days.
Anyway, as of two days ago his progress was at 1 %, he owned 2 cars, had not won any races, completed any licenses and had virtually no money.
Strange thing was though that he is playing GT5 pretty much every day and for several hours every day.
Turns out that the only thing he uses the game for is to play Karts online.
I am in no way criticising him, I just find it quite strange.
Anyone here have someone similar in their friends list?

I know a few people in real life who bought GT5 just to play go kart online.... It you think about it, it's the only kart game on the market right now. It's pretty good. I wonder how long does it take for 1 lap of on the ring on a kart.

I have one friend on PSN who has GT5. He has 29 gold medals in license tests, 0 silver and 0 bronze. 7% complete, a couple of cars, a small amount of money. Has been like that for the past month - he's always playing something else :D

Mario Kart? I know its ridiculous but it's pretty fun.

He means on the PS3, but M.K. is outrageously fun, yet I still get bored after an hour of playing it with my friend (who doesn't give a darn about GT and won't play it)

I got over 60 friends on my profile, the levels they are at, number of races won, amount of cars, money or % of the game completed etc varies greatly.

Some people have not bothered with B spec at all, others have even A and B spec levels, some never have any substantial amount of money, some have driven low mileage whilst others have alot of mileage (compared against game completion %).

Some gave up before they got to level 10, others gave up A and B spec at around level 20-24 and now spend all their time online, others are going for it and trying to get to level 40 before anyone else. Some are collecting cars, others just get the cars they feel they need and are happy with them.

It's all down to the difference in what people want from the game or see the game as, or when they got the game and how much time they have to play and progress in it.

It does seem a bit weiird that this guy just wants to race Karts online though, each to their own I suppose - it's a free world. But with 1000+ cars, 9 different tyres and multiple tuning options, it's a bit strange he's using GT5 for just Karting.

There must surely be ONE car he likes the look of or has an interest in?!?!?!

From experience, and one bored day, my fastest time around the ring was about 10-11 minutes wide open all the way around, with the only corner i had to let off the throttle being the Karussel. Its actually quite fun to dive into alot of those corners without lifting, especially after being programmed for so long the different braking points.

Look at my signature. I just did licenses, special events, online seasonal. The best car I drove in A-spec (or Bob in B-spec) was a 70CV Autobianchi A112 strictly stock.
I'm just enjoying the game as it comes.

I'm guessing op's friend spends more time playing online or arcade mode.

I have a friend who started the same time as me. He races lots, on more then me. Im level 26, almost 27 and he is 10 levels behind me. Hes quite a good racer. I try to help by gifting cars.
The difference is proficiency. I am on GTplanet daily, getting tunes and tips, he is not.
Its all about enjoyment ofcourse, but for me, I wanted to burn through to get my high end cars and nothing inbetween would slow me down.
Reality is, there are cars that provide low cost, high payout. Cars that can be used in a maximum amount of races. If it wasnt for GTplanet, I would have never got the ZR1RM which is probably the best money maker after the x2010
What races to grind at what levels to get the best progress can be a huge advantage.

I have alot of friends like me who just aren't completionists, if we find something boring we don't do it. That's why I'm just not going to do any more b-spec or licence tests, especially now that the seasonal events exist and are such a good source of income and exp.

I´m quite a different story. Since I´m a hardcore GT fan, everyone would expect me to have the game almost completed. The reallity is that I´m still in A-Spec level 27 (stuck since mid December), and... how embarrasing... B-Spec level 9. I don´t know what a Red Bull X2010 looks like, I haven´t done any endurance race, and I´m still missing a few races in the extreme tier. So yes... A few of us are advancing very slow in the game... And to be honest, I have no intention on advancing any further by now. I´m just enjoying the game...

I'm in the same boat as you, LVL. 27 A-Spec and LVL. 7 B-Spec, big GT fan and I take everything slowly. Next week and for the following months I know I wont have a minute for GT5, so now I'm going for the X2010, I have yet to see one.
