sluggish steering

Hello,

Have a question about the steering in GT4... I don't have the luxury of getting the DFP wheel yet, so I am still using the controller. In GT3, I was VERY good at drifting, but just can't get the hang of it in GT4. One thing I have noticed, that may be screwing me up, is the steering looks to be quite sluggish compared to my movement of the analog stick. In GT3 the steering follows the stick pretty close, but in GT4, when I look rearward at the front of the car and steer back & forth, it seems to take forever for the wheels to catch up to the position of the stick. I've searched around for any options relating to this and can't seem to find any :guilty: I think this is also what is making the car immediately snap around the opposite direction when I countersteer.

Anyone know a remedy for my situation???

Thanks!!

hrm, I think this must be a touch of realism PD has introduced, if this is true - i never noticed any delay worth complaining about.

Go sit in a real car and try to take the front wheels from neutral to full lock in a tenth of a second. You cant do it can you? Nope, didnt think so.
If what you're saying is true, then neither can the driver in GT4.

I might go check this out if i can get a decent replay to analyze this with.

how to fix it?
Just learn to adapt to it. The fact that you found nothing else on this subject by searching might indicate that everyone else has.

btw, welcome :D
sounds like you may have the search thing down, so I wont bother with my usual welcoming spiel about stickies, etc.

Edit: oops, looks like i might have misread your comments. In that case, do go read the sticky posts, and check out that search button :sly:

Like 'Spanker said, there is a delay (although not really as big as it would be in real life), but that's just the realism.

In any case, if you are entering the drift correctly, there should be enough momentum to carry you at least a little (in which time you can start to countersteer and then mash the gas)...

Just curious, but what controller are you using?

I did some testing in GT3 related to accuracy of controllers and found that nearly every after market DS2 had very poor analog control. While I was being very smooth with it, the replay showed the controller "snapping" to full lock, even though I had barely nudged the stick.

What it all came down to was the Stock sony controller was by far the best of the bunch.

I think it's maybe because you just lock up your wheels, everyone with the DFP: try to set it on 200 mode and try to turn full-lock:crazy: The car will just go forward, I think you have to turn REALLY slow.

I've found this to be true as well. If it's not a Sony DS2, don't use it for GT4, you'll be quite annoyed.

This applies to Xbox as well, 3rd party controllers just blow :yuck:

That is CRAZY:crazy:, SICK:sick:, DANGEROUS:scared:, LIFE-THREATNING:scared::crazy::ouch:, HARD SOUND:scared::lol:, ALL IN ALL: BEAUTIFULL:tup:!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know about all that. But the steering wheel was doing some serious spinning. MAkes me wish I had a DFP :(

Or more like thats his style of drift or die. Ueo is insane. To live the life of sponsorship. It must be nice...

The cars he uses now isn't so much different from the car he built himself during the Itaken series. He's actually no longer competing in D1 because of recent politics. I think, out of all the D1 drivers he was the most grassroots.

I found that with the wheel if you pause and then rotate the wheel as much as you like, when you unpause, the tires are instantly where the wheel indicates them to be.
