NO COMPLAINTS ABOUT MENUS OR OPTIONS.
And dont talk about damage. That is already flawed and everyone knows about that.

Just about small details in the graphics, sound, and physics.

We all know that GT has put alot of details into all that. But here are some things I think they missed:

When going on the carousel on nurb, you do hear the rumblestrip sound, but it's missing the rocking and squeaking of the car's chassis and suspension.

Thats all for now..

A testament to the effort put into the small details is in watching the replay in the secondary and third cockpit view.

Or another testament is the only detail you could think of was some squeaking in the suspension when you go over karroussel.

I'd say they did extremely well on the small details, and it's only the big details that people complain about, but they are a design choice not lack of attention.

lol this thread was tough. That's why I was hoping others can list something. other than that I was like: "uhhhh "

Besides GT Auto's car wash finally employing scantily clad females? Mostly stuff that was in GT4, but omitted in GT5... like reinstating adjustable front downforce with purchase of a GT Auto wing and adjustable ballast, as well as being able to remove Engine Stage tunes once purchased and applied. But I guess those would fall under 'options'. Anywho, I want, and they're arguably more important than minor sound issues and the like.

I think they have all the small details pretty much nailed. I would however like for the gear to not change until after the shift animation, it gets a little bit annoying hearing the change and then seeing the driver do it a second later. It's not a big deal but...

Never really noticed that before. I'm sure I will now...thanks Mr Dino!
Graphics we know about. Physics are really good to me. The sound could be enhanced with an air rush from a wastegate.

I know what you mean, but don't you love seeing them go into the actual gears and not just move there arm.
In a H-Gate car you can see them downshift into 2nd and then up into 3rd and you can clearly see they are hitting those gears and not just moving said arm up n down.

I love it i get lost in the small details.

one of the small details i could remember/like to see come back is when you watched replay's and you wold break around the corner your rotors would turn bright red i think that was in gt 3

This is in GT5. Watch a night replay to better emphasize it.

Small little things I'd like to have seen? The Daimler motor carriage!

When will threads like this stop appearing? :banghead:

I'd like power antennas that go up and down.

Would be nice, to avoid loadings, the garage selection icon inside tracks menu (Where tuning options and assists are available) to change your car without quiting the track. It would save about 2-3minutes every time you decide to use another car.

How about getting the shifting animations in time with the gear changes? I can't even watch from those views because the out of time shifts just look ridiculous.

Besides, I would rather they didn't bother with some of the minute details and focus on developing some important aspects of the game instead, like AI and qualifying

Wow, can't say I have ever noticed that, how much time do you spend in GT Auto? If you ask me, the details are what killed GT5, as ironic as that sounds. PD just bit off more than they could chew. The details that are there are nice, but the rest of the game suffers as a result

Ferrari 458 steering wheel engine rev lights.

Small details missing from the game that you would have liked to see.

Just about small details in the graphics, sound, and physics.

  • Flat-spotting tires
  • Tire pickup, like picking up gravel when going offroad
  • Rubbering-in the track surface, seeing it visibly and feeling a performance difference on the rubber versus off of it
  • "Marbles" off the race line
  • Differences in water standing on the track in rain, with clear puddles that behave different from the rest of the damp track
  • Dry line forming on a wet track, seen visually as well as felt in performance difference

I think they have all the small details pretty much nailed.

Nah, I just named a small list of examples to the contrary.

This is in GT5. Watch a night replay to better emphasize it.

There's another little detail that needs fixed. In the real world, if your car is going up a big hill, your headlights shine up the hill in the direction your car is facing. In GT5 they don't, but instead continue shining horizontally, which means shining down at the road instead of ahead of the car. That's mildly inconvenient. In fact, it renders all my night Course Maker tracks worthless since you can't see where you're going much of the time.

A consistent menu interface would have been nice.

The "start engine" sound recording played when selecting a car to be implemented in real time when you "stall" your engine and it has to be restarted again

Clutch users should know...

There are more serious things that need to be done to the game, rather then whether the air freshner swings on the mirror when cornering.

There should have been a possibility to make races in arcade mode where you pick both your own car and the opposition.

Gran Turismo 5 is missing a LOT of small details, along with other more important details:

  • lack of moving mud flaps in rally cars (they move in GT3, GT4 and GT-PSP)
  • lack of reflections in wet tracks, no indication if track is drying, if there are puddles, etc...
  • Tires! They look awfull!! All other games get them right but in GT5 the inside of the tire which is a black flat circle looks absolutely ridiculous!
  • Shadows and smoke effects. Again, details but they look so bad they make GT5 look mediocre to bad!
  • Double shadows in cars! Again ridiculous! There is a static shadow below the car and a dynamic blocky shadow! Where are we? In Tatooine? Are there two suns in GT5's world? Look here (taken from this thread)
  • In that night wet highway road, in the entrance of the tunnel, check out how the road changes from wet to dry! Awfull! Also in this track there is water spray coming from the back of the car even in the tunnel were the road is dry! Oh, and the water spray effects are so bad that make this track unplayble!
  • In Toscana night Special Event what is wrong with the headlights of the car?
  • Mini Cooper 98 is a German Car?! Yes, it's a detail but it's wrong!! And no, the fact that BMW bought Mini doesn't count!
  • Cardboard blocky people and cardboard trees! Again details but other games manage to have better trees and people but in GT5 they look bad even for a PS1 game! True Story! Why should they have so high poly premium cars and 1080p if the PS3 can't handle it?
  • Damage is bad in GT5. The cars look like they are melting and the glass doesn't break! Seriously!! Why they couldn't make it like any other driving game? Also in most premium cars (except maybe the rally cars) the engine bay and other interior mechanical parts are not modeled! So when the car is damaged (or should I say melting) you can see the road! Yeah that's some good modeling PD! I don't care that you modeled the stiches in the interior when you leaved out other more important details! Any other driving game get this right...
  • Invisible walls in tracks, especially Toscana Rally and Top Gear Track! Why? Have they developed GT5 on Sega Genesis? Or they did it to prevent track cutting? Yeah, I saw how good that worked out in GT Academy...
  • Cockpit View: Most gauges don't work, the shadows are so bad they distract you and apparently the cars don't have a windshield since there are no reflections and the glass doesn't break. So although most cars in GT5 don't have a cockpit view (pathetic!) even those cars that have a cockpit it's not a very good one. Oh, what do you say they got the stitches right? Good to know, did you count them? Nice way to spend modeling time...
  • No adjustable tire pressure! The real driving simulator indeed...
  • And probably a bunch of other things..

So what in my opinion GT5 gets right:
  • Nordshleife, the only track worth having in GT5
  • The handling for some cars. They have very nice realistic handling but most cars handle very bad!
Everything else in GT5 is mediocre to very bad.

It's the details that make a very good game a great game.
And in my opinion GT5 not only doesn't get the "details" right, it almost gets nothing right!

I miss the sun rays that cascaded down through the trees in Deep Forest and Trial Mountain :(

How about in the pits ?
- be nice to hear the tyre 'jackjammer' sound
- see the fuel gauge increase as fuel goes in
- when the car is dropped see new tyres rather than wait for refuelling to finish

Racing to full crowds in eg the Indy 500.
Some crowd noise.

The list goes on. But I could also put a list of things they have got right.

As I quoted in a similar previous thread, the devil is in the detail and you just cannot help but marvel and be dismayed at the good and bad of the smaller details.

I would like to have seen an animation when you press the horn, beam and handbrake in interior view. It feels weird to pull the handbrake while the driver hold on to the steering wheel with both hands. I know these things are placed differently in each car and probably would require different animations for each car but they missed a great opportunity to bring more life and unique character into the highly detailed interiors.

This happens. When the rain stops it takes a couple of laps for the spray to stop coming up from behind you when on the racing line, move off it and it's there. Then the rain tires start getting worse and worse..

It doesn't happen on standards I think, just premiums, even though it was in GT4:ouch:

It would be nice for the headlights to actually light up the track and surrounds properly, why do high-beams seem dimmer than normal head-lights:indiff:

And what happened to the pit animation, you drive into the pits and get locked into cockpit view and can barely see your crew at work,
Your left sitting there wondering when they'll finish because you can't see what they're doing,

Again another feature in GT4 removed:ouch:

It would be nice to hear some environmental effects on in the cars, stones hitting the underside when running off track, suspension going over bumps at speed( eg: La Sarthe), brakes squeaking under heavy breaking.....

EDIT: I also don't know why people are criticizing this thread, while its perfectly accepted to have a thread lauding the small details GT does right:indiff:

I would love to see the rear view mirrors show the details in the cars, it seems strange at times:lol:

The in-cockpit speedo should display in MPH if that's what I've selected in the options.

I can't imagine it was a tough programming task to do, since the game engine is already calculating the speed in MPH and KPH. Just tell the damn display to put it in MPH please, that's what I asked for!
