I basically told him that but he was like: it's not me, it's Russian Sony and so on.SMfan, the service repair guy has you dangling by your nuts, in the most pleasant way possible i can say.
In Russia (Moscow, more specifically) PS3 costs from $380 to about $550.The "Cell Broadband Engine" CPU, which was developed by IBM is only somewhere around the 450 GBP mark. If I were you, I'd buy a spare parts PS3, take the CPU out of that, put it in yours and hey presto! Don't worry, the PS3 runs on a Linux kernel, it won't take a kernel panic, or brick the PS3.
Hint: The PS3 cost Sony 800 GBP to produce, they sold it for half of what it cost to make. They make a total loss of 1.3 million EVERY year.
As for the PS3 - it's been confirmed - it's dead.![]()
That'd be nice.Ye so To help you out when I do sets for my gallery Ill send some of my pics over.
Did you have this kinda problem?Sorry to see this gallery close![]()
If you send it for repair, tell the people of the SAT, to NOT touch the hard drive![]()
That'd be nice.
Did you have this kinda problem?
Oh, and by dead I meant unrepairable, but after you said that I'm worried bout my HDD.![]()
There's a bit of a problem... it's already been to a service. It wasn't so serious, but the BR of my console died last September, so I sent it for repair, when they returned to me, it came with the hard drive completely formatted
That's why I tell you,to ask them not to touch the hard drive
Thanks dude.Sent you some pictures mate!
I basically told him that but he was like: it's not me, it's Russian Sony and so on.
However, I do think that it's possible to find it cheaper, right now the cheapest way to solve the problem is to buy a new one. Not only is it new and working, it also has a minimum of 320 GB HDD which is 4 times bigger than my current one is.
In Russia (Moscow, more specifically) PS3 costs from $380 to about $550.
So even though the price is pretty high, a $1000 for a processor is just F-ing insane.
Russian Sony my black 🤬 ! That's a pure piss take, all service centres of Sony are technically the same. I'll tell you one more thing. They get that processor from IBM for pennies. They just add VAT & Delivery costs onto it. So if your Russian courier costs $1000 just to delivery your PS3, I'll sure as hell won't be using them XD
Hmm, I'm still thinking it could be much lower. And I mean that the service CAN set the price a lot lower but they just don't do it. Just think about it: a PS3 costs $400-sumn, and at the same time the taxes are higher for it (Due to our laws, it's cheaper to get it inside the border as separate parts, but it's actually delivered as a complete thing), than for a processor (which is just one part), but a processor costs a thousand! You kiddin??
Victor no kid. You must obey Victor!!! (Sorry had too XD)
Personally I think you'd be best getting them to send your console back, buy either a spare parts PS3 and DIY or buy a used PS3 and swap the harddrives.
That's probably what I'm gonna do.When my PS3 went Kaput, mt dad just got a refurbished one.
Aww, come ON.ask the EU maybe they give you money for PC and PS3![]()
Thanks.i hope you get this fixed soon mate .
good luck
if you get a new ps3 i will help you out getting it finished very quick , sharing cars and so on , sending you stuff . np 4 me
After talking to a bunch of people I found out some things:
-If I just put my HDD into another console, it will be formatted.
-It's pretty risky to get a processor from a used console, as it's easily damaged while being removed.
Nice preview picture!) 👍 Good luck with PS3![]()
Isn't there a problem with Playstation's security (or whatever it's called) system?2 things;
1) Whoever told you your HDD will be formatted when you put it into a new console talks absolute gibberish. All the PS3's run on Linux's kernel and some basic code (the other half was change by Sony since it's open-source) and also, all PS3's are identical under the case. They all run on the same motherboards, CPUs, GPUs, Chipsets, etc, etc... all the way down to ON/OFF gates or transistors. And if your scared about losing your data, then there's something you can do.
Buy 2 USB > SATA cables, make a copy of how your HDD is before you install it (using Macrium Reflect or similar) and then copy it to the HDD you take out of the PS3. Simple really.
So, basically, you're saying, if the pro's do it, it ain't a problem, right?2) That's true, but it can only get damaged if you bend the pins, which in all honest bend quite easily but only if you put it in the wrong way or press to hard on it. It would save you a lot of money though.
Thanks.Nice preview by the way! =]
Isn't there a problem with Playstation's security (or whatever it's called) system?
I mean the fact that it's not supposed to let you copy the data from the HDD (A friend of mine claims to have tried that and failed).
So, basically, you're saying, if the pro's do it, it ain't a problem, right?
Nice.👍Hey, Alex! Check out your Gmail!
Nice update
You are one of the people who've made it possible.👍Nice preview !
Glad to see that your gallery is still alive 👍
There's a thing about it. Yes, you can copy it, but can only be a backup not a way to get the data from one system to another. It still is helpful, but not so much in my case.Sony's proprietry file system is encrypted yes, but not many know that you can indeed clone your HDD using HDclone (free version) to do a bit-by-bit clone of the HDD. 👍
It's been clarified many times that it works, but be careful, sometimes it doesn't always work apparently usually for newer CECH-3000(s) Slimline models. See this post, for more info
Well they don't get robots to do it, hahaha. You just need to have a steady hand, be gentle with it and you should be fine. Course, it's not for the faint-hearted.
