That's a very annoying "legitimate bug" with vBulletin. We were using a custom, modified version of vbcode.js (the script that manages the formatting buttons) that inserted smilies and code where your cursor was, but I can't get that custom script to work with the latest version of vBulletin (2.2.9) which we are running now. I am very happy to report, however, that vB3 will definitely correct this problem with a new WYSIWYG editor that actually displays smilies, images, and text formatting in the form that you compose your post in.Originally posted by milefile
What's the deal with not being able to insert smilies? For some reason it puts it at then end of the post. I also can't format text after-the-fact by selecting it anymore. Can that be fixed to the way it was before? It's just easier than typing in the tags.

Here's a screenshot of the new vB3 editor, it's actually a really useful new feature! 👍
There still isn't a set release date for vB3, but private beta testing is beginning now so I think it should arrive in its final form somewhere around April or May, but that is pure speculation at this point. That is very cool ! When might we expect to see that here?
It is still set at 30 seconds.Did you change the time limit for editing posts without a note showing up? What is it now?
No, the smilie database is shared across all styles on the forum.Originally posted by GTOne
Cant we have smilies of different types of styles like depending on the styleset they are two different sets

What you are doing is spamming, and if you do it any more then you won't have an account to get an avatar with.

Please, alex_gt, just drop it.
I too liked your smilie posts, but the fact is, rummaging through that long smilie list was difficult for the rest of us... no offense, but the tradeoff is much better for everyone else. I know that my 56k life has been made much easier by only having a short, definitive list to go through.
Plus, let me pose this question: Do the smilies actually affect the true content of your posts?

You did happen to notice the reason he was spamming, didn't you?Well Jordan your Post Count plan worked a treat didn't it?
Ah yes I'm pleased this has happened
Looks like I was right, taking away the post count has made no difference at all to spamming, yet probably had a negative effect on members with a high post count who are proud of it?

Yes, that is the same as it was before.
Just because I liked them doesn't mean that they were necessary. Also, be to frank with you, I can justify the tradeoff... your post "add-ons" versus everyone else's convenience, including mine. Plus, you complain about the trouble that you now have to go through to get the smilies, but if it's that much trouble, then why bother? The message of the posts are still the same.If you liked my posts how can you justify Jordan making it more difficult for me to use smilies?![]()
Actually, you're slightly skewing the view there... you have to rummage through 2 lists, not 3. Anyway, yes, I think 2 lists are better than the previous big, sprawling list. I know that the "Get Mor Smilies" list has the basic emotions that are only a little rarer than the ones on the main panel. I know that the "Even More Smilies" list has the smilies that I will rarely use, but that I know are there. It's much easier for me with two lists...Rummaging through one smilie list is a hel* of a lot easier than rummaging through 3 don't you think?![]()
I think that new members can figure out that a word surrounded by colons means that it used to be a smilie. And yes I take offensebecause in my opinion the tradeoff is well dare I say it, Rubbish comparing it to how smilies used to be. It has effected many members past posts including mine..newbies may look back using search see one of my posts with :computer:, :car, :gcar: etc..and think what the 🤬![]()
Like I said, I know what's on each list, so no, I only have to load one (smaller) list now, which is so much easier on the modem.Your 56k and mine has now got to load up two lists rather than one..![]()
Occasionally. Also, the basic smilies on the panel serve 90% of the emotions when a graphical emote is needed, with the "Get More Smilies" list serving the other 9%, and the "Even More Smilies" a very insignificant 1%.And yes smilies affect the true content of a post because often graphics say so much more than words![]()

Me and alex_gt are the only ones on his side in this issue. It takes him forever to make a post now because he has to go through this website and others looking for smileys, then adding in img tags, etc. I think he's rightfully outraged -- that doesn't mean things necessarily should change, but, unlike for the rest of us, for alex_gt, GTP5 has brought outrage and inconvenicence. Poor guy.
I know what it's like adding img tags and searching for images (See this post, which took me 25 minutes to make), and it isn't fun. I don't understand why we can't give him his smileys back -- it isn't like he's abusing them, and, most of all, the ones being abused by certain members (,
,
and
) are still in place.
