IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT

As a continuing effort by the BoD to streamline our procedures to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience racing SNAIL we are introducing the following Qualification Rules effective immediately.

These rules should be followed on Thursday night during official practice so we can test and adjust where necessary.

New Qually Rules

Upon entering prior to the first race of the night or upon having the room reset before the first race of the next combo, immediately drive to a spot beyond turn one that is well off the racing line and line up single file. (For Division 4, our Scorekeeper will move to the front of the line and await the "Greenlight" from the host.) The host will remain on pit road during this time.

Once the driver count has been verified, the host will give instructions to start qualifying and leave pit road to join in at the back of the line. Drivers should give 5 seconds between the driver in front of them leaving and when they start. Drivers should always keep an eye on the map. Do not take-off if another driver is approaching from behind on his hot lap.

Qually is not the race. If you get caught from behind on qually be kind enough not to block. Leave room for the driver to pass.

All drivers will complete an out lap and one hot lap for qualifying.

If, at any time during the out lap or the hot lap, a driver COMPLETELY leaves the racing surface for any reason, they are to pull completely off the track and out of the way and wait for the qualifying session to end. They are not to attempt to re-enter the track for any reason. (It was explained, that a small off, like just going wide off the track surface and maintaining speed is ok to re-enter with caution. If speed is dramatically lost in this instance, pull off track.)

Once drivers have completed their hot lap, they are to stop on the track far enough past the start finish line as to not be a distraction to anyone finishing a lap.

Once the host has completed his hot lap, he will check that no non-members have entered (kick as necessary) and start the race.

This can be modified for shorter tracks or to change from 5 seconds if deemed necessary.

Failure to comply with Qually Rules will result in a disqualification for that specific race.

Promotion and relegation is completed for next season and the drivers list has been updated. The list is subject to change based on the number of time trials submitted by new drivers between now and tomorrow night. If any drivers change divisions between now and then, I will post the changes and tag those drivers.

All drivers that have submitted a time trial have been placed in a division. Please check the list for your assignment.

All drivers should check the list as there were changes to some drivers division assignments. Don't be the guy that shows up in the wrong division on Sunday night. The priority order could also come into play during this season so I would suggest that everyone brush up on what that entails. It's in the SNAIL OLR Policies and Guidelines thread which you all have stated you read and agreed to when you ran your time trial or earlier for some.

Finally, good luck and good racing Sunday night.

The Good Racecraft Guide

We already have the excellent GT Planet Online Racing Rules & Guidelines (OLR) that defines very clearly what good racing is to us, I expect you have all read & refer back to them regularly so that you understand what is required of GT Planet members when racing online in certain organised events. However, what about their practical application & all the subtle nuances that constitute good racecraft?

This article will cover what the cleanest gentleman drivers here at GT Planet consider to be good racecraft, etiquette/manners, & general sportsmanship. If you have any opinions on the matter please post them in this thread, together we can make each other better & more considerate drivers by sharing the wealth of knowledge we all have regarding exactly what it is that defines good racecraft. The following is based on my many experiences of gentlemanly online racing with some the cleanest forum members out there over the last few years, mainly in GT5 Prologue & GT5, but now also in GT6.

Put me down for replay uploader.

If I can get a reliable laptop I’ll help with scorekeeping/data as well. But I dont have one at the moment.

I volunteer for data. I can also do scorekeeping, but my computer is in a different area so I have to enter it after Racing is finished for the night. If nobody else wants to do it better, I’m in.

So.. you got principal for replay uploader and for now I'll put you down as a back up for scorekeeper.

You got principal on Data and putting you for Scorekeeping principal in the timebeing. Would be preferred if the score keeper can do it as the races are done. This is specially critical for the 3rd and 4th week.

Thank you @whatbadgerseat @Machinist

We need a good backup host, even two if we have it. Also, anyone with a USB or Bluetooth keyboard that wants to be the Texter? my keyboard is missing the 'L'; I do not mind doing it.

@Handlebar do you want to be DM? backup DM? I jump at it just to set things for tomorrow.
There will be some nights that I can't actually talk much on Mic; as the kids go to bed right before race time.

Welcome to Race Day D4 Snails!
A couple of important reminders for tonight's race. We are starting 1 hour ahead of the regular scheduled time due to server maintenance starting at 2300 hrs EST.

Secondly, as with any new start of the season, some of us have raced together on Sundays, some during practice and some never had the pleasure of sharing asphalt at all. Always show respect for your fellow racers; understand the limitations of your car and yourself and drive accordingly. The Ferrari 458 combo is crazy slippery. It seems at points as if your driving on ice/snow. Exercise due diligence if you did not get to practice this combo. Turn 1 Lap 1 always represents a huge challenge for all, do not try to win the race at turn 1. Saw this yesterday on a couple of practice runs with the faster snails and it gets like a Sloppy Joe Buffet. Around Mercedes Arena is also very slippery and always a place where most incidents occur at this track. Always remember 'overlap' before attacking the inside.

Lastly, Nurburgring GP ST Sport is a bit different than GT6. There are cones at the exit of turn 1 and a pylon at the exit of the chicane instead of the cube barriers. Cones and Pylons are not to be touched as they constitute Out of Bounds. Even if another driver has knocked them down, the following traffic shall still respect the boundary. I bring this up because on every single practice session I saw racers short cutting the exit of the chicane.
As another note for tonight's racing, in particular the racing at Nurburgring GP, the following has been added to the track boundaries section.

Nurburgring GP - At the right hand portion of the final chicane, no tires are allowed on the green area beyond the rumble strips. This coincides with the pylon that is placed and is not meant to be struck. Note: Contact with cones or pylons is subject to penalty even if you are otherwise within the stated track boundaries.

Note: If the pylon shows up missing in a replay, you can be guaranteed there is a very good chance that the stewards will review the entire race and hand out penalties for any violations. Do not turn this into another Ascari incident. Just respect the track boundaries.

We still have some positions to fill. Back up DM / Hosts, Texter, and backup data specialist are needed.

Important Schedule Change

For tonight only. Racing will begin at 8:30 PM ET / 5:30 PM PT. This is due to scheduled maintenance in the game. This is only a change for this week.

All hosts should start the night's racing at this time. The only reason to hold the start is to sort connection issues or to allow someone who has been in the room their 3 minutes to return. You will not wait for someone who is late arriving.

Important for tonight is the fact that there is scheduled maintenance set for 2 1/2 hours from our start time. Keep the racing on schedule or you may not finish. There will not be a make up scheduled to complete any races that don't get finished for any division.

Hey guys. Very few times I've had the chance to win Prize A before. Given that GTS is still new to me, have not had a chance to explore all cars, tracks.
Will be planning on opening a 'Test Room' tonight at the usual Snail Time.

Desk Opened for Suggestions!

Reposting without permission, just in case you didn't see it in the main thread.

Important Announcement

With the update to GTS and whatever physics change was made with it, the time trials that were run by all drivers are no longer an accurate benchmark for placing incoming drivers. We need all active drivers to run the time trial and submit your time via the form that is linked right here. I suggest that you spend a few minutes checking out the changes to the game and the way the car will drive before you run the trial. We would like for everyone to do this as soon as possible so that we have a reliable data set to compare new drivers to and place them more accurately.

Nobody will be moved between divisions based solely on this time trial. It is only to help the league with new driver placement.

D4 Welcome to Race Day

Message of the Day (meant to be as a type of Driver's Meeting)
I hope everyone is well and hope to see you all tonight. We still are in need of a Back up Host and Back up PM. Did no realize that Mr. Tache was moved to D5 as I had reached out to him in case he wanted to be DM as he is one of the Senior Snails still around.

The texter is also open. I can do it but my keyboard sometimes gives me the fits as it does not have the letter L and acts up delaying responses.

I would like to remind you all that Racing and Emotions go hand in hand. Never jump to conclusions without first reviewing replays from different angles and drivers eyes. It took me 6 to 7 views from different perspectives of the Dragon Tail Sloppy Joe at the reverse grid, to finally understand what happened. To what I originally faulted a driver ended up that he actually did the correct thing and he in fact was part of a secondary incident that then became a 5 car mess.

Final point. If you did not do your homework this week, do not expect to be competitive. Drive / Race within the limits of control. Both the 911 and 458 combos are pretty challenging even with practice time; don't ruin your fellow Snails Races for lack of care.

Sorry guys, I'm done with this {[<"CLEAN">)]} racing, as you call it. I've seen cleaner racing from little kids. I'm sure I screwed up once in race two, by being inside on a turn at the apex, not expecting what happened. But getting rammed repeatedly in the back from the same driver !
Please remove me from your drivers list. I wont be back. Not even to see what anybody says.

@afrojcactair Just as mentioned in the main thread. I hope that you reconsider and join us for some more fun racing. The PSN / GTS platform is far from a stable medium to host races and during the night we all can experience lagging. I am not trying to justify bad driving behavior, but from the replyas that I've seen, nothing strikes me a bad race-craft with the intent to harm anyone. Obviously, mistakes are made as I will demonstrate below. It also helps to keep in mind that that this is after all.. just a game! We are not competing for a Million Bucks. The SNAIL community is for the great majority a great crowd that not only is willing to help you improve, but also offers the best racing experience online (and yes I've tried other Leagues).

2 > Review your own incident: if you feel it necessary to file an IR please watch the replay and see it from several different angles before submitting your IR. Watching from a different perspective will help you determine if an IR is actually required and allow you to make note of the lap the incident happened and the total race time.

4 > Making Concessions: To concede your position after you've cause an incident is good but be careful where you make your concession . It doesn't have to be immediate especially when doing so will further exacerbate the situation and could cause more harm to surrounding drivers.💡 Continuing on (off the racing line) and conceding within that same lap is acceptable.

I'd like to bring up bullet 4 from @TomMang_68s about reviews. I've see many racers do the right thing at the wrong time. Chicanes and Blind Corners are a bad spot to suddenly slow down since the likelihood of making an even bigger mess is very high. I stand corrected as to the time that a concession needs to be made (I thought it could be done during the course of the race, when in fact needs to be done as soon as it is safe to do so). So, the suggestion to all drivers: If you are involved in an incident at chicanes, or blind corners like budweiser balcony at Big Willow, continue driving until the next straight and avoid the preferred racing line. Hitting the brakes and suddenly slowing down with traffic behind you at these spots is a good recipe for a Sloppy Joe.

@soundtiger95 @Machinist right before the bus stop.

@Wolfsatz Whoever told you that a concession has to be made on the same lap was wrong. I told you that a concession needs to be made as soon as it is safe to do so. Never did I mention the same lap. You're the division manager. If you're not sure about something, get clarification before you distribute it.

@Wolfsatz a concession needs to be made as soon as it is safe to do so.
This is such a gray area which defeats the purpose of the point I am trying to make. Some think that hitting the breaks at a Chicane with the rest of the division behind you is Safe to do so.

Belay my last D4. Read the rules and adjust accordingly! Ez Pz Lemon blah blah blah

You're right, it's a little bit of a grey area as to when it's safe. You're defeating your own purpose when you say a concession has to be made on the same lap. Example: Someone does something in the last turn that requires a concession. Now they think they have to make that concession before the start finish line because you told them that a concession has to be made on the same lap. See the problem with that? Adding specific conditions that don't exist have the potential to cloud your message and create situations that should be avoided.

Not trying to bust your man bags, just trying to make sure everyone has good information.

Point taken. But at the same time the ' as soon as is safe to do so makes for bigger incidents quite too many times when their mind set is 'as soon as'.
Anyway, corrected message as it stand on the rule book.

D4 The room is about to be live. Please Restart your Gear and clear your cache before joining the room. The network is acting up. Please all do the due diligence to have a night without disconnects and cars stuck on grid.

Was it because I put 03 for the day instead of just 3? Because I wasn’t quite sure what to do with that.
03 is correct. They just weren't showing up for some reason. I went back to the top menu in the game and looked again and they were there.

GM Gents,
Any ideas where should the 458 go?
I think Sazuka would be fun or maybe Bathurst. I havent really driven the Tokyo tracks much but one of those might be fun as well. We are going to get to the point where we are repeating tracks very soon in this game. Hopefully they release more of them soon.

I like the Zuk, but what would the 458 be like at Brands Hatch? Just a question really, more than a suggestion.

I thought about doing Brands Hatch... but for some reason it just does not click with me. I prefer to do Mt. Panorama to BH. Suzuka should be very interesting and provide some good battles.
