My apologies to mac/widowmaker for giving him grief about steeling Tee’s FL in race 2, when in fact it was me who stole it first. Sorry for that too Tee !!

Hoping that the time leading up to the next event will provide more practice lobbies than I saw before Fuji. For me that’s where most of the fun is. Official race night is just like the payoff for all the time spent figuring it out.

Love the time of day at the next track! Don’t think I’ve ever done laps here with the various trackside lights on. Very cool. Headlights on but imho not too dark at all. Should make for some great action shots.

Event #4 - Fuji Int'l Speedway

Event #4 / Race #1 Recap

250912 - Event 3 Spotters Guide.webp

Grab yourselves your Monday morning coffee.

Preamble:
The two-stop Japanese leg of the series kicks of with Event #4 at the Fuji Int'l Speedway. It's the first time Fuji showed up on the schedule since my participation in the @llNovall series and the technical 3rd sector always put a scare into me. Attendance was down a little bit for this event therefore our Pre-Qualifying procedures were not required.

The changes to the grid from Event #3 are as follows:
The event will go off with 13 drivers.

Qualifying Table:
Quali Table 1.webp

Quali Table 2.webp

I knew one needed to get into the 1:41's to claim a spot on the front row. For awhile, I thought my 1:41.843 might have an outside chance at claiming pole but it wasn't meant to be. @The_Antman_ blew the doors off my time by a whole 0.5 seconds to keep his pole streak alive at 4 and will once gain start on pole.

So the grid is set. @The_Antman_ and @socalnatv will line up on the front row. @DRD_Niagara and @Noob01_lmdead will line up behind them in row #2. The 3rd row has @Mac1032763 beside @DublDee.

Event #4 / Race #1

LAP #1:
It's lights out at Fuji and it's a full sprint to the righthanded Turn 1.
SHARE_20250914_0119350.webp

LAP #1 - Lead Change
The inside line proves beneficial to @socalnatv who nails his braking point and manages to exit Turn 1 just ahead of @The_Antman_ and now leads. Everybody gets away cleanly.
SHARE_20250914_0119590.webp

LAP #1:
The first time through the Dunlop chicane was intense. @socalnatv still leads @The_Antman_. And just behind them, @DRD_Niagara, @Noob01_lmdead and @DublDee came into it hard, three-wide and navigated quite well.
SHARE_20250914_0120230.webp

LAP #3:
The technical, twisty 3rd sector can cause issues if one isn't careful. @JDMKING13, running in 6th, came out of Turn 13 sliding but manages a race saving catch to resettle his car without losing position. @bublyman, @Bologna_Duc and @llNovall are currently in 7th through 9th.
SHARE_20250914_0120520.webp

LAP #4:
@socalnatv still leads but Lap #4 has been a fun lap for the battle for 2nd place. @Noob01_lmdead is pictured moving ahead of @The_Antman_. The two would continue to briefly exchange this position over the next lap.
SHARE_20250914_0121170.webp

LAP #6:
This picture summarizes my race. Despite my car's +5 pp advantage over @DublDee's car, I just couldn't drop him. I'd periodically build a buffer of 1.0 - 1.2 seconds but then I'd look in my rearview and he'd be right on me again. This might have lasted 16 laps and the best part....I don't recall feeling a simple bump the entire time. Nice racing @DublDee.
SHARE_20250914_0121420.webp

LAP #7:
@The_Antman_, currently in 3rd place appears to have missed his breaking point and comes into Turn 1 of Lap #7 too hot. He does quite well in avoiding @Noob01_lmdead and @socalnatv but the error would drop him from 3rd to 12th place.
SHARE_20250914_0122010.webp

LAP #10:
Towards the back of the grid, Lap #9 & Lap #10 @CdnSweetTee and @The_Antman_ were having a good battle for the 11th spot but @CdnSweetTee would end up spinning at the Dunlop chicane.
SHARE_20250914_0122390.webp

LAP #11:
It's Lap #11 and we've still got this type of action as @JDMKING13, @bublyman, @llNovall and @Mac1032763 are all bunched together in 5th through 8th position.
SHARE_20250914_0123000.webp

LAP #14:
@Bologna_Duc gives a kiss to the bollard at Turn 1 of Lap 14 from the 9th position. He's trying to hold off @Yugofan and @The_Antman_.
SHARE_20250914_0123190.webp

LAP #15:
@Noob01_lmdead and @DRD_Niagara have been running 2-3 since @The_Antman_ went off at Lap #7. When I pushed the car, I was able to get close to @Noob01_lmdead to apply pressure but he kept a very good pace. He'd have to make a mistake for me to overtake him.
SHARE_20250914_0123390.webp

LAP #16:
@socalnatv has been leading since exiting Turn 1 of Lap #1 and he's now 3 Laps from victory. @Noob01_lmdead, @DRD_Niagara, @DublDee and @JDMKING13 are your current top 5. @llNovall, @Mac1032763 and @bublyman are just behind.
SHARE_20250914_0123560.webp

LAP #19:
@llNovall and @JDMKING13 had what might have been the battle of the race. It started on Lap #18 and went on until the end of the race. On the line was a spot in the top 5.
SHARE_20250914_0124170.webp

LAP #19:
@socalnatv never gave back the lead he took in Turn 1 of Lap #1. He put in a flawless drive and sees it through until the end to capture his 2nd chequered flag of the season. He takes the top spot on the podium and standing next to him is @Noob01_lmdead and @DRD_Niagara.

The Fastest Laps point once again goes to @The_Antman_ (his 6th such award in 7 races) with a time of 1:41.698. It edges out @Mac1032763's time of 1:41.715 and @DublDee's time of 1:41.846.

Event #4 / Race #1 Broadcast:

Driver of the Race Award:
As I review the replay a few times to pull pictures and to record the broadcast, things stand out to me so I give a shout-out to the following drivers for their performance in Event #4 / Race #1:

Difficult to give out this award in this race as the Finishing Table looks a lot like the Qualifying Table. I thought it was difficult to pass in this race, despite the action and battles that Fuji provided.
  • By default, the award goes to @socalnatv. Led the whole way, logged a lap into the high 1:41's and did so with a car at 675 PP, which I always have an appreciation for.

Final Thoughts:
  • It felt like forever for me as I had missed Event 3 but I really enjoyed Fuji despite being initially hesitant towards it. The practice sessions in the days leading up to the Event were also a blast.
  • As I stated on Friday, the family and I are off to France late this week and it's likely that I won't be able to get a Race #2 recap out for your reading enjoyment. If time permits, I will try before Event 4.
  • I made a comment in a practice lobby last week that W.K.R will be coming hard at the Nerds in this event. Looking forward to seeing the Event scoring but the results table in this race shows that W.K.R came out with a purpose despite being shorthanded.
  • Get yourselves on the Snail Sunday Spec league active drivers list. You've all been there at one point or another and it likely helped develop your race craft skills.
That's how I interpreted Event #4 / Race #1.
