Event #7 / Race #1 Recap

View attachment 1497884

Preamble:
The rest of the season will take place on the east coast, and we're at the Glen for Event #7. Since my participation in Snail's @llNovall series, Watkins Glen has always featured as a stop on his schedule I hope to see that continue. I think this track has it all. Sweeping curves, walls, a long straight and elevation changes.

I live about 225 km from Watkins Glen (140 miles for my American friends) so I've always considered it my GT7 home track.

The changes to the grid from Event #6 are as follows:
Once again, we're well below 16 cars for this event. The races will go off with 12 drivers lining up at the starting line.

Qualifying Table:
View attachment 1497885
View attachment 1497886
For the second consecutive event, @DublDee will claim pole and he does so by putting down a lap for the ages in his very first hot-lap of the session. I spent quite a bit of time with several drivers in practice sessions and saw times start creeping into the high 49's but nothing near @DublDee's time.

So the Event goes off with @DublDee and @Noob01_lmdead in the front row. @llNovall will lineup next to @DRD_Niagara in the second row while @Mac1032763 and @socalnatv will occupy the third row.

Event #7 / Race #1:

LAP #1:
It's lights out in Upstate, New York. These opening pics are usually my favorites. While I do wish we had a full deck of 16 cars out here, I find the different liveries so nice to look at.
View attachment 1497984

LAP #1:
The first two sectors, with it's esses, bus stop and the long sweeping righthander can be trickly on cold tires. Some light door rubbing occurred but as a group, we all get away pretty cleanly.
View attachment 1497985

LAP #2:
Both @DublDee and @llNovall manage great starts and occupy the top two spots. @DRD_Niagara, in 3rd is already feeling pressure from @Mac1032763, @socalnatv and @Noob01_lmdead. @Bologna_Duc and @Kgffy are just behind.
View attachment 1497986

LAP #3:
The first critical mistake of the race is made by @Bologna_Duc as he comes out of the bus-stop on Lap #3 a little wobbly. Contact with other cars is avoided but he would go for a spin which would drop him from 7th to 12th.
View attachment 1497987

LAP #4:
The next error would come on Lap #5 with @Mac1032763's exit of Turn 7, known as "The Toe". He touched grass and fights hard to make the correction but would also end up for a spin. He would drop from 5th to 12th and would retire the car moments later.
View attachment 1497988

LAP #6:
@Kgffy is leading @Yugofan and @bublyman on Lap #6. The picture shows @Yugofan exiting the bus-stop a little unsteady. He caught his car but lost a little speed. @bublyman seizes the opportunity and takes the 7th position.
View attachment 1497991

LAP #7:
A couple things happening in this picture. I recall running a little too deep at The Toe on Lap #7 and with quality drivers like @Noob01_lmdead, @socalnatv and @Kgffy behind me, that's going to cost me a position. @Noob01_lmdead is shown passing me to move into 3rd and a little further behind, @Yugofan manages retake the 7th position from @bublyman.
View attachment 1497992

LAP #10:
Quite a good battle between @bublyman and @Yugofan, which would periodically also include @JDMKING13 but it comes to an end on Lap #10 when @Yugofan hits the barrier exiting The Toe. Lots of action at The Toe. He'd drop from 7th to 9th.
View attachment 1497994

LAP #13:
The view from my cockpit for the last few laps. I've been dealing with pressure @socalnatv and @Kgffy for quite some time now and feel like @socalnatv is sitting in my backseat. He'd pass me about 100 yards later to move into 4th.
View attachment 1497995

LAP #15:
Checking in at the front, @DublDee still leads and has built a decent gap between himself and 2nd place, @llNovall. With just a few laps to go, it's just himself, an open road, and his thoughts. But memories of Lap 8 of Race #1 at Laguna Seca are creeping into his head and he's doing his best blocking them out.
View attachment 1497996

LAP #16:
@llNovall has had a quiet, comfortable race but with a few laps to go, he's looking in his mirrors more frequently as @Noob01_lmdead has been creeping closer and closer to him in recent laps. The pic also captures a small but costly error where @socalnatv would touch grass in the braking zone and send him for a quick spin which would drop him from 4th to 10th.
View attachment 1497998

LAP #17:
Entering the bus-stop on the final lap of the race from the 4th position, I'm fully aware that I forgot to open the window in my room because I'm sweating and I'm gripping my wheel pretty hard. @JDMKING13 would come out of the bus-stop a little unstable and spin, he'd drop from 7th to 10th.
View attachment 1497999

LAP #17:
@Kgffy would pass me to move into 4th on the exit of the race's last turn and I was lucky to avoid giving up another spot to @bublyman as I held him off by 0.047 seconds. If he had another 50 yards, he would have passed me too.
View attachment 1498000

LAP #17:
But moments earlier, it was @DublDee that closed off the race with a big win. It's the first win of the season for himself and for his WKM team and he exorcises the demons from his mishap at Laguna Seca last month. He'll be flanked on the podium by @llNovall and @Noob01_lmdead.
View attachment 1498001
The Fastest Lap bonus is awarded to @Bologna_Duc, who's time of 1:49.786 bests @DublDee's 1:49.873 and @JDMKING13's 1:49.917. They are the only three to squeeze into the 49's.

Event #7 / Race #1 Broadcast:

Driver of the Race Award:
As I review the replays to pull pictures and to record the broadcast, things stand out to me so I give a shout-out to the following drivers for their performance in Event #7 / Race #1.
  • @DublDee - Was strong in practices leading up to the race and then sends a message with bad intentions to the field with his blistering time in Qualifying. Follows it up with a big win and just missed out on the Fastest Lap Bonus. Well done and well deserved Sir.
Final Thoughts:
  • Updating the tally of the Pole Position Bonuses through 7 Events: @The_Antman_ 4 / @DublDee 2 / @Noob01_lmdead 1.
  • My traditional plug for Snail's Sunday Night Spec League. Bored on a Sunday night? Come enjoy stress free racing, full-time and part-time drivers needed.
  • Hope to recap Race #2 next weekend or so.
That's how I interpreted Event #7 / Race #1.

As always a great recap and excellent work! I just have to say, that lap 15 picture of me and your comments about just me and the road ahead and my thoughts….man you nailed that on the head. I kept thinking about spinning out, then when I talked myself out of that I started thinking “what if my wheel or pedals quit working”…..”Hope my power doesn’t go out” …..finally I told myself to just concentrate on hitting your marks, lol. Then the last couple of laps I found myself being too conservative, and that can be just as bad as over driving, you just need to try your best to stay in your groove and just drive! Thankfully I dint spin, my power didnt go out and my wheel and pedals were just fine, Lol
Looking forward to Montreal ! See you all in the practice rooms.

Great job Niagara. Cool note that I saw on the Gtplanet main page was cars being dirty as race progresses. I had a view of the replay, and sure enough the cars had track sprocket on em near the end. Not crazy, but enough to notice.

Did you see you can see everyone car stats by hitting triangle now in the lobby sorry I’m late… Snail multi class racing in the future?!?
As much as this helps, to do multi class would require larger grid sizes. Never say never, but cutting the grid makes the competing classes much lower in driver count vs a full or near full grid of one class.

I’m sorry Nov I was mixing this with my ARL group.. We do GT3/GT4 GT500/GT300 and GT3/GT1 we were waiting for the option to show everyone car stats to run multi class lol. It’s crazy fun and intense even with just 16.

OK, went into the F1 movie with skepticism based on a hoard of varying reviews. Was it a bit Hollywood, sure. But, was it entertaining, YES!! For me it captured the cutthroat aspect of F1 of a team fighting for survival and tossing a Hail Mary. This wasn't a team fighting for a Championship, but a race win to stay alive. From the opening scenes of the IMSA Weathertech Daytona 24hrs race to the F1 scenes...soooo much authenticity. Real cars, real drivers, real teams integrated into a fictional story. I was entertained. The naysayers may disagree, but I enjoyed every minute of it. If you have access to Apple TV, have a watch. Worth it.

I see a lot of talk about downshifting issues since the update. Anybody have any feedback on this?
Going to get in later at GVC and see what all the talks about.

So glad you mention that @DublDee! I thought something mechanical was going wrong with my wheel…I had the downshifting problem last night.
You never know what to believe anymore but on a lot of the Facebook pages they’re saying this is an intentional fix, making it more realistic, as in it won’t let you downshift at a point that would blow the powertrain up, but like I said you never know what to believe and what not to believe!
If anyone knows anything official, please chime in.

Yes, it is an intentional fix to make the downshifts more realistic.

It was part of the 1.66 hot patch. Check GTPlanet's news page.

Going to get in later at GVC and see what all the talks about.
I heard it's more like ACC where you cannot rapid fire downshift. In ACC, you would get locked out of a down shift if you were still at or near max revs in a higher gear. Once you release the throttle or start to drop revs, it will allow the downshift. Removes a gaming exploit. I prefer it honestly. In real world, rapid fire down shifts at hi revs would toss a rod out the block. This is more in line with forcing real world downshifting habits

Oooh I like it! Anything to make it more realistic.
We were on last night and once I thought I may have missed a downshift from 2nd to 1st, but maybe that time I did try to shift a touch early 🤔
Will definitely be on this afternoon

For any drivers that care to participate in displaying their Driver Standing for next event, please see the spoiler tab below for details. Please verify your current driver standing on the scoresheet provided, or by the driver profile page linked in this post. Please be sure to update your livery prior to each event. If in doubt, simply remove the numbers before the event. See the Spoiler tab below:
Driver Standings Recognition
Drivers will be encouraged, not required, to display their current driver standing going into each event after Event #1, though there will be a few rules and requirements.
Drivers who are interested in diplaying their current standing, should collect the following green digital numbers 0-9.
19298d4c15a5-screenshotUrl.jpg

After scoring is finalized and Post Race report issued, drivers will be cleared to edit their driver standing on their number board along with any award tags. Drivers should apply their Standing on both side's boards and be sure their number is in line with their actual standing in the Championship.
Should look like this:
19298d4a4df4-screenshotUrl.jpg

Rules and requirements:
To maintain accuracy and integrity to this recognition, drivers who choose to add their standing to their car will be required to submit an updated profile picture before each event with their scrutineering tuning sheet. Submissions will be reviewed post event just as I do for the driver regulations.
If a driver forgets to submit the car picture with a standing displayed or has the wrong standing placement displayed , it will result in a 5 point penalty against the overall event score. This has to be in place to ensure that those who want to display their standing, maintains the attention and accuracy for it to be credible.
If choosing to display, be sure your edited livery is correct, accurate, and saved prior to each event. If unsure or not interested in displaying your standing, simply leave it blank or just apply double zeros.
The profile pictures will not be used for the Driver profile page, only for scrutineering to maintain the integrity of this recognition.
Again, this is optional, but if done correctly, it will be a great way to know who is where in the standings as the season unfolds.

Event #7 / Race #2 Recap

Event 7 Spotters Guide.webp

Preamble:

I'm sure it's obvious but these recaps are best viewed with a tablet or PC. To me, viewing/reading them on a phone doesn't do the races justice.

Just like Race #1 of this event, we've got a smaller than ideal grid for this one at the Glen.

As per our usual procedures, Race #2 goes off with the grid set in reverse order. This means that the front row is occupied by @cesarr64 and @JDMKING13. The second row will have @Bologna_Duc next to @socalnatv. @Yugofan and @bublyman will start on the third row.

Event #7 / Race #2:

LAP #1:
It's lights out for the 2nd time of Event #7 in Upstate New York. @cesarr64 does well getting away quickly and firmly establishes himself in the lead for the sprint towards the Bus-Stop on Lap #1.

LAP #1 - Lead Change
The field is still in tight quarters. @cesarr64 was a little late on the brakes towards the end of the chute which would allow @JDMKING13 to emerge from Turn 6 with the lead.

LAP #2:
The Bus-Stop strikes @Bologna_Duc again. He got onto the grass slightly upon entrance and had a little slide into @cesarr64. He fights to regain control but can't avoid a spin. He'd drop from 3rd to 11th.
SHARE_20251216_1137340.webp

LAP #2:
A few turns later heading towards Turn 6, some chain reaction bumping occurred which would send @cesarr64 and @DRD_Niagara deeper than they would have liked. Disaster is avoided but positions were lost.

LAP #2:
@Bologna_Duc very much enjoyed his trip to the Glen last year as part of the 2024 Michelin Pilot Challenge. In 2024, he and his Corvette snagged Pole Position and saw it through to win Race #1. But his 2025 trip Upstate, NY won't leave such positive memories. He'd retire the car early and start packing up the trucks.

LAP #4:
Things are starting to settle in. @JDMKING13 still leads exiting Turn 7 with @socalnatv and @bublyman right on him. Behind them is @Kgffy and @Yugofan running 4th and 5th.
SHARE_20251217_1222330.webp

LAP #5 - Lead Change:
Heading sown the chute on Lap #5, @socalnatv touched up @JDMKING13 which sent him off (in the background). @socalnatv is pictured doing the honorable thing and waiting for him. Post race chatter chalked up the contact as an unfortunate racing incident between two guys that have been racing together for years.

But as a result, @bublyman manages to take the leads and @Kgffy and @Yugofan find themselves in 3rd and 4th. @JDMKING13 would retire the car moments later.

Lap #6 - Lead Change:
Ladies and gentlemen, the 2025 Porsche Mobile 1 SuperCup has found it's Lap/Battle of the Season. @Yugofan had front row seats to the racing display that @bublyman and @Kgffy has given us. A small mistake by @bublyman at the Bus-Stop allowed @Kgffy to briefly take the lead.

LAP #6 - Lead Change:
@bublyman and @Kgffy would exchange the lead between them a total of 4 times in this lap. Not all of them are captured in pictures but I tried to do it justice in the broadcast that I provide. The pic below shows @bublyman emerging from Turn 10 on the inside line to finally ward off @Kgffy's attack.

LAP #7:
Where one battle ends, another begins. @DublDee has a good run through the esses and uses the slipstream down the straight to pass @Yugofan and move into 3rd. Behind them, coming out of the esses is @Noob01_lmdead, @llNovall and @DRD_Niagara running 5th through 7th.
SHARE_20251216_1140380.webp

LAP #12:
@DublDee is leaking a little oil. @Yugofan managed to pass him on Lap #11 to reclaim the 3rd position and a little kiss of the wall would slow him down enough for @Noob01_lmdead to pass him a few turns later to move into 4th. @DublDee now in 5th.
SHARE_20251216_1141380.webp

LAP #14:
@Kgffy's exit out of Turn 8 was a little squirrelly and he'd slide a bit but manage to catch his car in typical @Kgffy fashion. But the loss of speed would open the door for @Yugofan. @Kgffy, knowing the position was likely lost, thought better than to risk a side-by-side fight into Turn 9 lifted and @Yugofan gains another position and moves into 2nd place.

LAP #16:
@Yugofan then proceeds to dial up the pressure on @bublyman for the last two laps, at times being right on his bumper.
SHARE_20251217_0240240.webp

LAP #17:
@bublyman manages to hold off @Yugofan. He's been on the podium four times this season but finally gets to stand on the top step. He'll be joined by @Yugofan and by @Noob01_lmdead who managed to get by @Kgffy a few turns prior to the end of the race.

The Fastest Lap bonus goes to @socalnatv with a lap time of 1:49.831. He's the only one that got into the 49's in this one. @DublDee (1:50.013) and @Kgffy (1:50.071) put down the 2nd and 3rd Fastest Laps.

Event #7 / Race #2 Broadcast:

Driver of the Race Award:
As I review the replays to pull pictures and to record the broadcast, things stand out to me so I give a shout-out to the following drivers for their performance in Event #7 / Race #2.
  • @bublyman - He's a worthy Race #2 winner having kept cool (at least give the impression he kept cool) during the epic battle with @Kgffy and the pressure applied on him by @Yugofan.
Season Overview Table:
I'm debuting my Season Overview Table for you all today. I tend to provide an updated tally on who wins the bonuses associated with Poles and Fastest Laps and thought this can be displayed more efficiently in a table.

So without further ado...
Season Overview Table.webp
Built much like scoring tables are shown in Wikipedia. Hopefully it's easier on the eyes for you. I thought about building out a scoring table somewhat like this but I don't want to cut @llNovall's grass too much.

Final Thoughts:
  • Watkins Glen saw two new race winners for this season. We've had 14 races and saw 9 different people win races. In my experience, only @llNovall's series can provide this.
  • Snail Sunday Night Spec League - We had 11 drivers in D1 and 8 drivers in D2 last Sunday. We raced Circuit Gilles Villeneuve for the first time and it might have helped boost our numbers. (Even @Worst_Driver came out of his hiding spot to attend)
  • @socalnatv keep us updated on your surgery / recovery.
  • Despite not being as competitive as I'd like, racing with this group is always something I look forward to. Wishing each of you a Merry Christmas. Hoping you all get some quality time with friends and families.
  • See you all in “La Belle Province” for Event #8.
That's how I interpreted Event #7 / Race #2.

I was trying to remain cool but in fact, I was shaking all over my body to keep in straight with no mistakes…. That was a hard one with one of the slowest time of the grid.

@llNovall

You can take me off the list for the next event at CGV.

Bionic knee installed last night as planned so I’m definitely not going to be ready by January 3.
Knee replacement surgery? My wife just had her right knee replaced a week ago.

Surgery went great, she has PT three times a week.

Good luck with your recovery.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas, I know I did, and finally back home after a few days at the in-laws.

Just wanted to let everyone know I plan on getting online for some Porsche practice this evening for next Friday's event, and if enough interest and drivers are available tonight, I will announce the Drivers PP regs to those in attendance to run a few races as a group in the new V8+ Supercars after.

Targeting to open a room around 7pm est.

Select the Snowman using the "Like" button if you plan to attend this evening.

Select the  Poo using the "Like" button if you cannot attend this evening.

A normal thumbs up will be considered acknowledgement and a maybe.
